Dear PJDavis404, Welcome to the forum! You asked, "Is there a difference between saved and preserved according to the Bible?" Yes, there is. I'll attempt to explain: Salvation is the overall act of God in the entire work of redemption of His chosen people (elect). It starts in eternity past (before creation) and will continue forever. Preservation is the work of God whereby the regenerated (born again) elect are preserved in the faith forever more. (John 6:39, 40, 44, 17:11, 12, 15; 1Timothy 6:20; 2 Timothy 1:12; 1Peter 1:5; Jude 24.) Based on Romans 8 and a multitude of other supporting passages, theologians speak of something called the "order of salvation." It represents a logical order of steps that take place in salvation. Some of them may well be simultaneous and instantaneous, but others go on forever! It looks something like this: 1) election 2) predestination 3) gospel call 4) inward call 5) regeneration 6) conversion (faith and repentance) 7) justification 8) sanctification 9) glorification Sanctification is progressive in the life of the believer. Glorification is something in which we all look forward! From start to finish it is entirely and completely a work of God. In Him, Doc |
