Challenging Hypnosis Stereotypes There is more evidence of people being led into confusion and false teaching by the wrong kind of preachers than by hypnosis. [Note: That I quote the following material does not necessarily mean that I endorse it. I merely present an alternate point of view. --kalos] 'Having acknowledged the risks [of hypnosis], it is then essential to inquire about the evidence for such dangers, and at this point there is a pleasant surprise. Apart from observations among other religions, even those Christian writers who are most vehemently opposed to hypnosis fail to document examples that demonstrate their point. Occasional anecdotes provide food for thought but by their very scarcity and uncertainty, serve rather to emphasise how very safe hypnosis can be when used in an ethical and professional way. Indeed, evidences of people being led into confusion and false teaching by preachers are much more readily available. 'Perhaps more extraordinary is the fact that strong condemnation of hypnosis can be brought forward by Christian writers with such a limited appeal to Scripture. If hypnosis is so hazardous, we should expect more than a passing reference to it in Scripture. Important principles are invariably given repeated attention. In the present situation, one isolated verse is brought forward, a verse that suffers from poor exegesis. Put simply, the Bible is silent on the dangers of hypnosis.' ____________________ http://www.shootthemessenger.com.au/u_may_99/i_hypno2.htm |
