The leaders of the 1st century church were the apostles (including Paul-the 13th apostle). But to further the gospel being preached they appointed 7 men to help in the ministries needs (Acts 6) to the apostles could focus on the mission. According to 8:1 it doesn't really said where the apostles scattered to. Philip did go to Samaria though. In Acts 9:32 Peter was traveling about the country (in Lydda). So the apostles did scatter too (to escape Saul). But it doesn't give a detailed account as to where they went exactly. Of the apostles you read most about in the Acts (Philip, Peter, and Paul) you will see that they constantly traveled to preach the word. But wherever they scattered due to persecution they still preached the word. Often enough the apostles would hear of plots against them and leave. Or have other disciples protect them. Often angels of God would protect them. God needed these men to advance his Kingdom. As far as I know, the Bible doesn't say who the leaders of the churches were (Antioch, Phillippi, Corinth, Thessolonia, etc.). All you read about is that the apostles would go there (Paul wrote letters) to encourage and strenghthen the faith of the disciples there. |
