1 | Receive Spirit with salvation or later? | Acts 2:38 | kalos | 21847
"Receive Spirit with salvation or later?" The answer you receive regarding whether we receive the Spirit at salvation or sometime subsequent to our salvation, depends on whom you ask: a Pentecostal/Charismatic, a non-Pentecostal, or an anti-Pentecostal (e.g. a fundamentalist). Now I said the "answer you receive" will depend on whom you ask. The actual answer, of course, depends upon what the Bible plainly and clearly teaches. First we must determine what is meant by "receive" the Spirit. The fact is we are baptized by the Spirit, indwelt by the Spirit and are supposed to be filled with the Spirit. Let's take a closer look at each word. When you receive Christ as your Savior, when you believe (trust, cling to, adhere to, rely on) Him for salvation, you are then baptized (placed) into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13). Note: this has nothing whatever to do with water baptism. Every believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9). We are commanded to be filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). To be "filled" with the Spirit means to be "controlled" (not like a robot or puppet) and "empowered" by the Holy Spirit. In conclusion, we are baptized by, indwelt by and filled with the Spirit (the Holy Spirit). I hope this helps. If you want further clarification, you need only to ask. |

You must die before you can have the indwelling of Gods Spirit. Except a kernel of wheat fall to the ground and die, it abides alone, but if it dies it brings forth much fruit. When you were born into this world, you were born in the image and likeness of Adam after the fall. Adam was created with the indwelling of God's Spirit which is the image and likeness of God. When Adam fell he nolonger had God's Spirit living in him and he was left with only the Godless human nature.Cain later killed Abel displaying the nature of man without God's Spirit. When we are born again we are given God's Spirit inside of us. We are now born in God's image and likeness, even as Adam was before the fall. We nolonger have to walk in the flesh [Godless human nature], but have the power to walk in God's nature and character. When we hear the truth of the gospel and believe, we will be burried with Christ in baptism. Even as Jesus was raised from the dead, we too are raised from the dead thru baptism. We are given the Holy spirit thru our faith and obedience to the gospel,[Acts 2:38].We are raised in newness of life. We now have the ability to walk in the Spirit. Read Romans chapter 8.
