1 | Teaching Bible Prophecy | Acts 1:7 | mark d seyler | 184587 | ||
Hi gkidder, Just my own opinion, based on my own experience, not all pastors understand prophecy, not all pastors believe prophecy, not all pastors believe that prophecy is relevant. Since it comprises, I think, about a third of the Holy Scriptures, this is an awful lot of God's word to ignore, and the church I attend does not ignore it. My pastor teaches straight through the Bible, beginning to end, skipping over no passages. I believe in attending a church that teaches this way, otherwise, there is the tendancy to miss portions. 2 Timothy 3:16 "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" That's "all Scripture." I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

In my opinion, there are several reasons for this misunderstanding. One is that many churches are infected with God-dishonoring and bible-unbelieving liberalism. They are also ignorant or adverse to the prophetic importance of Israel. Many pastors and ministries today have been sadly reduced to nothing more than glorified psychologists who try to make people feel good and meet their emotional needs instead of proclaiming the Word of God with power, conviction and passion. Unlike ten or twenty years ago, the teaching of Bible prophecy has fallen by the wayside because many church circles have deemed that it has little, if any, practical value for today. But Bible prophecy does have practical value. It builds our faith in the sovereignty of God, who holds the future in His hands. The return of Christ challenges us to live in holy expectation of His coming (John 3:1-3). Certainly, prophecy also is a tool of witnessing. The Bible is the only book that accurately forecasts the future and this can be shown by informed teachers and testifiers. The striking prophetic fulfillment of the Jews returning to the land of Israel in our century is one such faith-inspiring prophetic fulfillment. The generally bad condition of the world and the relationship between nations-the famine, pestilence, earthquakes, and so many other prophetic issues can cogently be understood through knowledge of Biblical prophecy. The unbeliever made familiarwith what Scripture predicted for these times may be convicted by the very relevance of the Bible texts on prophecy. in Christ: Tony |

gkidder: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! I gather from what I have read that you wouldfall into the catagory of DISPENSATIONAL PREMILLENNIALISM. I am streching a little to say that but based on what you said about Israel. I invite you to enter some information about yourself in the Update User Info, at the left of your screen, under Resources. This helps to get to know each other a little, and not seem so much like a stranger. Endtime preaching is one subject that most pastors are asked to preach about many times in their life as a Pastor, preacher and I was no exception. I would suggest a book that has been very helpful, and I have refered many to read it. THE MEANING OF THE MILLENNIUM. FOUR VIEWS, edited by Dr. Robert G. Clouse. IVP 1977. This book is one of the very best I have found that covers HISTORICAL PREMILLENNIALISM, DISPENSATIONAL PREMILLENNIALISM, POSTMILLENNIALSIN, and ALMILLENNIALISM. This book belongs in every Christians library. Why is the subject of Biblical Prophecy sometimes ignored? Several reasons come to mind why this topic is not preached about. I find that some teaching on Prophecy is so determined that their way of understanding is the only way to understand Prophecy, and if you don't believe thrie way then you are unbiblical. This seems to be more in the Dispensational camp. as I have experienced this. The LEFT BEHIND books are often used as a basis for beliefe in the Dispensational theory. The two areas that many want to make into core beliefs, cut in stome are, Tongues and theorys of end times. Many believers become very disagreable, even to the point of dis-fellowshiping with anyone who does not believe as they do. Personally I base my Biblical of the end of times from Matthew 24. The writing of Paul and others are to be read incontext of what Jesus said. I know for sure until Jesus Christ it is not "yet". The message is be prepared, times will get much worse, and Christians will suffer. Not even Christ knows when He will return, so how in the world do these so called experts know when He will return? I am what is called a Historical Premillennialists. I understand the early church believed in this view of end times, and that's where I have hung my hat so to speak. the big problem is many that preach or teach on this topic usually only deal with one theory. I have made it a point to present all four theories, and to present these so believers have a better chance to grow beyond just being spoon fed one way of understanding oof the end times. I believe that there is a place for Prophecy in the preaching calendar. However, when a preacher's sermons are only salvation messages, or mainly preaches Prophecy sermons, the sermons are out of balance. The fact is prophecy messages bring in more people. Preaching people into salvation by fearing their future, does not allow the Love of Christ to come forth. 1 John 4:18. There are many ways to frighten people into believing in Christ, but even satan believes and his demons as well. I have never presented to Gospel in any way but to ask a person to respond to the Love of God. That makes a believer who will stay with Christ to the end. I would add that to read the news paper, and find Scripture that fits soem iten or event is not good at all. Rather it is with the Scripture that we measure current events or items. Not all preachers have the same spiritual gifts or special interest in a Biblical area. A preacher must know that the message that he or she is going to preach has been given from God to them to preach. This may sound easy, but this is the hardest task any man or woman og God can ever do. The people I know in ministry, are nem and women of Gods own heart. There are some preachers, that preach a false gospel, the UNITY CHURCHES for a prime example. But as in the time of Jesus, there are many false teachers. I believe the Scripture had something for thise who lived whenit was written and a message for us today. The Bible can be used and abused to say what false teachers want it to say. I am very cautious in saying the Bible "forcasts". Taken out of context one can falsely make statements that new babies in Christ can be led astray. I am optomistic about the times in which we live, as a Christian we have more freedom to share the Gospel. I don't remember a time that has has better communications, more outreach to the whole world as we have now. There are more Bible Colleges, Seminaries, and educational opportunities for lay people than there has been before. At no other time in history has Scripture been so available for so many to have a copy of the Bible in their native language. Focus on what God is doing more than what others are doing wrong. Our attitude is 90 percent of we do to react as Christians. Blessings . Justme |
