1 | How we judge the Man? | John 7:51 | Ray | 141835
This question is an outgrowth of a thread with Makarios nearly three years ago on John 7:38 and a thread with Rowdy almost one year ago concerning John 7:51. 1) Does living water flow from OUR innermost beings? Or does John 7:38 speak of the Spirit? 2) Is verse 51 dealing with the Man Jesus? What would you say about my interpretation of verse 51 as being, "Our Law does not judge a Man, unless it first hears from Him and knows what He is doing, does it?" From the heart, Ray |

2 | How we judge the Man? | John 7:51 | lionheart | 141859
Good day my brother, I'm gonna do my best to practice what I preach here. Let see what we will see. 1) Does living water flow from OUR innermost beings? If we go to verse 39 we get our answer. But this he spoke of the Spirit. You can read the rest of the verse. Jesus is refering to the spirit. 2) We gotta be a little more carefull with this one. A lot of questions will be answered by going back and reading the entire chapter. I believe Nicodemus was calling them to task regarding the Law dealing with the treatment of those they sought to bring charges against. Even today we have a right to face our accusers and present our case. The Law here would apply to anyone they would look to bring charges against. I hope I'm not eating to much shoe leather here. By going back and reading the whole chapter we will see they are looking for acassion to charge Jesus. The majority of the religious authorities of that day denied that Jesus was Messiah,he was even addressed by them as being a false prophet,or being an illegitimat child. They were looking for a way to take him out. We all know that when they finally arrested and tried him they had broken the law on more than one point. I pray I havent made to much a mess of this. Your brother in Christ, lionheart |

3 | How we judge the Man? | John 7:51 | Ray | 141868
Hi lionheart, As you know, this is a question of capitalization. When you talk to me you have to be in a NASB or NKJ mode, where the pronouns are capitalized. So when you say "he was even addressed by them as being", then you probably think of Him as just a man. You may think of him as being a perfect man but still as a man. I think of Him as being fully Man and fully God. I would like to have us be consistent in our thinking of Him. I agree with the NASB which capitalizes "Him" even though the people might think of Him as a false prophet. I think also that we have to be consistent in our capitalization of Deity. You have written here: "But this he spoke of the Spirit. You can read the rest of the verse. Jesus is referring to the spirit." So you have written about an upper and lower case (s)Spirit. But that is a good question: Was Jesus speaking of the Spirit or the spirit in verse 39? And in verse 52 are the people speaking of a prophet or the Prophet? From the heart, Ray |
