1 | Book of the Dead vs Bible similarities? | John 17:17 | BradK | 209895
Hello acurrier, The reason that the Tibetan "Book of the Dead" may contain many similarities from the Bible, is most likley due to the fact they were taken from it! It's date of authorship is sometime in the 8th Century, by an Indian yogi. The complete canon of scripture- the Bible- had already been in existence for some 400 years. I hope this helps, BradK |

Thanks for the response. Where did you get your information? I've found that the earliest collection of this text is dated to the 15th cent. B.C.

Hello accurier, The source I referenced was www.religionfacts.com/buddism/texts/tibetan_book_of_the_dead.htm "The Book of the Dead is a product of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. According to Nyingma tradition, the book was composed in the eighth century CE by Padmasambhava, who then concealed the book because he knew the world was not yet ready for its teachings. Concealing, rather than revealing, books immediately upon writing them is a distinctive practice of the Nyingma school. Concealed works are called terma ("treasure"), and it is believed that they will not be discovered until the world is ready for them. The Tibetan Book of the Dead was rediscovered in the 14th century CE by Karma Lingpa, a monk of the Nyingma school." It would simply not be possible or logical for something (supposedly) written centuries before the Bible texts to contain specifics from it. Can your friend provide you any direct quotations that support his contentions? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
