1 | Jesus weeping over Lazarus | John 11:35 | Minister Bethune | 206655
Did Jesus weep over Lazarus' death because of the fact that Lazarus actually was dead or was it because of the lack of faith in the power of God that the people possessed ? Or is neither of these reasons the answer ?
2 | Jesus weeping over Lazarus | John 11:35 | quvmoh | 206656
I would say neither. It is speculation on anyone's part as to why Jesus cried. The context really doesn't clarify. Those who watched it said it was because Jesus loved Lazarus, as noted in verse 36. It could also be due to their lack of faith as hinted at in verse 32-33. However, to raise Lazarus, Jesus would have had to bring him back from Paradise. I think that is why Jesus was crying. He had to deny Lazarus paradise in order to perform a miracle that helped to further prove his claims as Messiah. There are many other possible explanations as to why Jesus cried. Maybe he had allergies that day. No one knows. The important thing is that these tears show us that Jesus wasn't some way off, unfeeling person, but someone with great compassion. quvmoh |
