Hi, DSing1... Welcome to the forum! In John 10:11-15 Christ describes Himself as the "good shepherd." Note that He says in verse 14 that "He knows the sheep." We might infer that the hireling (vv12-13) did not know the sheep. The elders are to be overseers of the flock (1 Peter 5:1-4), tending and feeding (John 21:15-17), as Christ set the example. The pastoral epistles also clearly indicate that the pastor is to know the flock. Frankly, having had some experience with livestock, I can't imagine taking care of them without knowing the particular needs of each individual. I hope these thoughts help. In Him, Doc |

Thank you...I appreciate both answers, but I still believe there is a scripture that is more specific in encouraging us to know the people with whom we share a ministry. | ||||||
