1 | The Lord is my Shepherd? | John 10:14 | Ray | 88422
This question is posed after considering Psalm 23 and John 10:14 and after reading #88387. Is Jesus the Good Shepherd or the good shepherd? Is He our Owner or does He own us? When considering John 10:6, do you think we are any closer to understanding the things of God? From the heart, Ray |

2 | The Lord is my Shepherd? | John 10:14 | Jesusman | 88432
Hello, First off, I think you're talking around in circles. Jesus is the Good Shepherd. Why? The Bible says so. In fact, Jesus is the only one identified as "The Good Shepherd". So, who cares to what degree it is? As for "Owner" -v- "Own us", Clarify this. Both phrases have the same meaning. Also, I think it's slightly different than ownership and possession. It's more like kinship. This is especially true when taking into account Paul's usage of our being "Children of God" and "Joint heirs with Christ". As for being closer to understanding the things of God, God will reveal himself only in the capacity of our understanding. What we understand about him now is all that we are capable of. Anything beyond that is a venture in futility because it would hinder our relationship with God rather than edify it. When we are capable of understanding more about God, God will reveal it to us through faith, as per Romans 1:17. Jesus Loves You! Jesusman |

3 | The Lord is my Shepherd? | John 10:14 | Ray | 88848
Hi Jesusman, You have asked me "Who cares to what degree it is?" I have always cared in my days here on the forum to lift Christ up and glorify Him. I have stressed that He was not just a good man. He was the one Man, Jesus the Christ. You are right in saying that the Bible says that Jesus is the good shepherd. And I also think that Jesus is the Good Shepherd. But it is difficult to determine whether this "illustration" or this "figure of speech" (see verse 6) is to be understood as a parable or whether the pronouns of verses 2 and 3 should be capitalized, speaking of God Himself. Personally, I capitalize those pronouns as well as the Good Shepherd of verse 11 and 14. My study has been one of seeing God revealed rather than "learning about" God. I compare John 10:6 with John 12:48 and John 6:45. 1) John 10:12 speaks of the "hireling" and of how he is not a shepherd (and certainly not the Shepherd) and he is also not the owner of the sheep. When I was considering my question, I was wondering if the "Owner" of the sheep should be capitalized; but I now believe that "being neither a shepherd nor an owner" shows the lack of concern for the sheep by the hireling. (There is no need for a pronoun of Deity in the verse.) Although we have been bought with a price as 1 Corinthians 6:19,20 says, and we are not our own, we do not often think of God as our Owner. He is our Life however, see Acts 5:20, 1 John 1:1, perhaps Colossians 3:4. And we could also consider John 10:10, "The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they might have life, and might have [it] abundantly." Thank you for answering my post. From the heart, Ray |
