I think your question becomes very significant for us to consider. If it was illegal for her to be in public, how could she receive what God wanted her to have? Did she dare "buck the system" in her pursuit of the Savior? Lev 15:19 states, "When a woman has a discharge, if her discharge in her body is blood, she shall continue in her menstrual impurity for seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening." From Levitical law, she and anyone who touched her was declared "unclean." Think for a moment about what she did - to reach out and touch the garment of the Lord! It was not her touch that he recognized, but her faith. Our sins do not defile the Lord, they defile us. He is the healer and we must go to Him for healing! I think that your question illustrates a common misconception (this is the system of religion that must be "bucked!") - that we have to "clean up our act" before we come to Jesus! Or the attitidude: I'm not good enough to go to church, etc. . . my sins are too bad, etc. We know from Luke that the woman had sought help but to no avail and she remained in her uncleanness. Think about the implications that this condition would have upon her life! She would be prohibited from many activities and relationships. She would not be permitted to worship in her unclean state! Yet what did she choose to do? She set an example for us to follow! What a contrast is found in Jesus who bids us come, just as we are! For He knows that we can do nothing about the uncleaness of sin in our lives. No amount of re-hab or reform will wipe away the presence of sin that separates us from God. We remain in our sin until we come to Jesus for forgiveness and cleansing! The ultimate healing! Blessings, Mommapbs |
