1 | By what authority? | Luke 20:2 | eagerfollower | 50517
I believe that according to Luke 20:8, Jesus is saying that we already know by who He does all things. In this case it must be from the Father.

Hi eagerfollower, Welcome to the forum. Thank you for a very quick answer, but now I have to stay awake a little longer. I made a typo error in my question for it should have read, "Who is the one who gave You this authority?" But in any case, your answer is that it is the "One". Or as you stated it, the Father. How about the secondary question. "Was Jesus just a prophet?" From the heart, Ray |

Since Jesus IS Lord, I guess you could say He is THE prophet.

Hi eagerfollower, When one uses words of stress and emphasis it tends to confuse capitalization choices. Be that as it may, your prophet does not agree with your Lord. John the baptizer was asked in John 1:21, ""Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No."" Matthew 11:2, "Now when John in prison heard of the works of Christ, he sent word by his disciples, and said to Him, "Are You the Expected One, or shall we look for *someone else?" John 6:14, "When therefore the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said, "This is of a truth the Prophet who is to come into the world." The question remains in my mind, however, how we consider those in the Scripture who feared to seize Jesus because the multitudes held Him to be a prophet. Later. From the heart, Ray |

I'm sorry. I did mean that Jesus was the prophet. Quick note... Isn't is awsome how in John 1:22, Jesus sees that the people want to make Him an earthly king and leaves because He is the heavenly king? What an example to us!

Hi eagerfollower, Please check your Scripture reference because I don't think that you meant John l:22. Let me introduce myself to you so that you will know where I am coming from in most of my posts.:) I am a "capitalizer". I'm encouraging consistent and correct capitalization and am still in the process of trying to do that in my personal copy. It is from that viewpoint that I look at Jesus as the Prophet and the King of kings and Lord of lords. So even though the NASB talks of King David and King Herod because of their titles, they are not Deity. But Jesus died on the cross as our King. The chief priests had no king but Caesar so they did not want the King even as their king. John 19:14, "Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold, your King!" They therefore cried out, "Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar."" The verse that came to my mind when you said that "the people want to make Him an earthly king" is John 6:15. "Jesus therefore perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by force, to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself alone." Jesus will not be forced to become a king for He is indeed the King of kings. I go with the translation of Jay P. Green, Sr. in the Greek-Enlish Interlinear literal translation for the previous verse, John 6:14. That is, with one capitalization exception which I will *star. John 6:14, Green's literal translation, "Then seeing what sign Jesus did, the men said, This is truly the Prophet, the (*one) coming into the world." I believe that Jesus is the One, the Expected One. So, eagerfollower, this is where I am coming from in my posts. I look forward to talking more with you. From the heart, Ray |
