1 | Is Jesus "son of David"? | Mark 12:35 | budderfligh | 204327
Is Jesus saying that it's incorrect to place Him in David's lineage? Mar 12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. Mar 12:37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he [then] his son? And the common people heard him gladly. I hope I don't sound too ignorant by asking this question, but I thought one of the proofs that He was the Christ was because He was of the house of David and that the throne of David was established forever, just as Christ will reign forever. Gods blessings to all who answer, budderfligh |

2 | Is Jesus "son of David"? | Mark 12:35 | stjohn | 204329
Hi Budder.. His lineage was not in question, so Jesus isn't saying He is not in the line of David, He is quoting from the old testament Psalm 110:1 and Psalm 2:7 and I believe He was using these Scriptures simply to show His deity. I hope this helps God bless John |

3 | Is Jesus "son of David"? | Mark 12:35 | budderfligh | 204425
Hi John, Thanks for taking the time to answer. I can certainly see that Jesus was using these scriptures to point to his deity and you are correct that He's quoting from the old testament but I must admit that I'm still not clear on this subject. It seems that Jesus is saying, Why do the scribes say that Christ is the son of David? He then goes on to point out that David himself called Him Lord and basically ends by saying, how then is He his son? In other words, if David calls Him Lord then how can He be David's son? It's almost as though Jesus is correcting them for the usage of the words "David's son". Thank you in advance for your patience and God's blessings to all, budderfligh |

4 | Is Jesus "son of David"? | Mark 12:35 | stjohn | 204430
Oh I see, Well, I think He is showing them that they don't know Him from a hole in the ground. I mean he was demonstrating to them (and us) that they did not have the answer to a very good theological question. Though we know what He was demonstrating: as in the Scripture(s) sighted that showed His deity: they did not, or would not see the truth, i.e. that He, The Christ, was, and of course, is also, God. Just my two cents :-) Shalom and God bless John |

I'm sure you are correct and that they didn't have any idea that he was The Christ. I believe this is just one of those scriptures that just make you say hmmmmmm. Shalom to you also and God bless, budderfligh |

6 | Is Jesus "son of David"? | Mark 12:35 | stjohn | 204452
Hi Budderfligh: Yes, I suppose your right too, it's a difficult passage to grasp. Hence I've read quite a few commentaries on this. Unfortunately, many don't have very much to say, and indeed, some skip over it entirely! John Gill however, has much to say, most of which I find to be very helpful. He also covers the same subject-matter in Matthew. http://www.freegrace.net/gill/ And also... http://eword.gospelcom.net/comments/ Shalom and God bless John |

Hello John, Since I don't come online that often tonight is the first opportunity I had to view the web sites that you provided me with. The John Gill link was very helpful to me. One of the most profitable things for me about participating in this forum is discovering so many online Bible Study tools and the Gill link is a good example of that. Thanks so much and God bless! :-) budderfligh |
