1 | What do you think of Christ? | Matt 22:42 | Aixen7z4 | 101964
Who is this Jesus, who is called Christ? This question has been asked indirectly, on this forum, and directly too, but I have found no explicit answer. And yet, it seems to me it is the most important question. Would you care to answer it? There are times when it is not clear whether a participant here is or is not a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. And yet, it might be said that that is the preeminent, most important question that a person asks or answers. It has been suggested that this is not a forum where matters of personal salvation are decided. And yet, it seems to me that that would be the most important thing to happen here, or anywhere. When a person is saved, his goal, his prize is to become like Christ, to be conformed to his image. The question still is: “What do you think of Christ?” Now, as then, “Whose son is he?” is one question. But beyond that: Is he master and lord, that we should obey and emulate him? Is he the savior, that we should believe in him? Is he God, that we should worship him? (I apologize to those who think some of those words should have been capitalized. There might be differences of opinion on that, depending, in part, on our thoughts about him). What do you think of Christ? |

Aixen, This morning I see Christ as inconceivably selfless, humble, loving, brave and a leader in battle and in peace. This, however, is easy to say, so my answer to "Who is this Jesus?" is personal. Here goes: Against Christ's superb example, it's often hard for me to know what to pray for or to feel sincere in prayer, and I have to dig down, so to speak. This digging is not an easy thing (as David realized in Psalm 139: "...try me and know my anxious thoughts..."), and it costs me, as though I have to be brave and insightful enough to ask God for the courage and insight to know what to pray for. I feel close to God and His Son in these effortful, Davidic moments: "I love the LORD, because He hears My voice and my supplications." (Psalm 116.1). My love for God and His Son deepens the more I struggle toward the truth of that scripture, so my answer to your question is that Jesus made me, He loves me, I belong to Him and I'm trying to pray in the way He prayed to His Father. Amen. Amen. Yes, He is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Eyes have seen, ears have heard, and it's recorded in God's word, and he is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. |

Aixen -- Friend, having just logged on to the Forum after an absence of several days during which I restored my soul by playing host to my extended family during the holidays, I revisit it to find a series of posts directed to the Lockman Foundation -- something about leaving the format of Bible study to enter into a praise phase. I don't quite understand what this is all about, but it is consuming lots of space on this Forum. Let me urge you to do two things. Review the guidelines of this Forum. And direct any questions to Lockman to the e-mail address listed at the bottom of this page. It is altogether useless and inappropriate to post open letters to Lockman on this web site. If you have a problem with continuing with Bible study, the avowed purpose of this Forum, and thus wish to change it into something else, I doubt that you will be instrumental in persuading Lockman to adopt your ideas. --Hank
