1 | Forgiveness Seventy times Seven | Matt 18:22 | Deb | 231449
Does God's commandment to forgive seventy times seven mean that you keep forgiving the same sin from the same person over and over? I know I should forgive and I do however this is concerning my marriage and I believe my husband is using this scripture wrongly. I feel as if I have forgiven over and over but the same behavior continues... Lying and making promises he has no intention of following through with. It has worn on me so that we are now facing divorce. I have tried to set boundaries in our marriage that are scriptural however he keeps throwing this verse at me. I believe I can forgive but also refuse to be treated this way any longer. I trust God can perform miracles but struggle over this verse. Please help me understand the true meaning of this verse.
2 | Forgiveness Seventy times Seven | Matt 18:22 | Searcher56 | 231450
God's day to you, Deb, and welcome to the SBF, Love does not take into account a wrong suffered (1Co 13:5) means we don't count ... we always start back at zero, never getting to 490 (Mat 18:22). It is how God forgives (2Co 5:19) ... and we all are repeat offenders of the same sin, or at least I am. On your marriage, we don't give advise. We rather advise you and your husband go to wise Christian counsel, maybe even your pastor. I hope I helped, Searcher |
