2 | What is the Greek word for grape juice? | Num 6:3 | Makarios | 24995 | ||
Greetings Sherlock! Strong's Exhaustive Concordance has the following entry for the Hebrew word 'mishrah' in Num. 6:3.. "4952 - Hebrew mishrah mish-raw' from 8281 in the sense of loosening; maceration, i.e. steeped juice:--liquor." And the KJV translates 'mishrah' as liquor while the NASB translates this word as 'grape juice'. In Song of Solomon 8:2, the word for juice in Hebrew is: "6071 - Hebrew 'aciyc aw-sees' from 6072; must or fresh grape-juice (as just trodden out):--juice, new (sweet) wine." As far as a NT equivalent, there is the Greek word "oinos" which is translated as 'wine' (NASB) in Matt. 9:17: "3631 - Greek oinov 'oinos' (Mat_9:17 Mar_2:22 Mar_15:23 Luk_1:15 Luk_5:37-38 Luk_7:33 Luk_10:34 Joh_2:3 Joh_2:9-10 Joh_4:46 Rom_14:21 Eph_5:18 1Ti_3:8 1Ti_5:23 Tit_2:3 Rev_6:6 Rev_14:8 Rev_14:10 Rev_16:19 Rev_17:2 Rev_18:3 Rev_18:13 Rev_19:15)" And there is also the Greek word "1098 - Greek gleukov 'gleukos'" in Acts 2:13.. In my opinion, the Greek word "gleukos" would fit the description of grape juice more efficiently (based on the context) then would oinos.. Blessings to you, Nolan |
