The addressee here in Malachi 3:8,9 was not the church. It was Israel, a theocratic nation, and the tithes and offerings were essentially taxes used to fund the theocracy. Believers in New Testament times still have a responsibility to pay taxes -- to "render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's" ... (See Matt. 22:21 and Rom. 13:1-7 and to make freewill offerings -- ..."and to God the things that are God's" (see 1 Cor 16:1,2 and 2 Cor., Chapters 8 and 9. --Hank | ||||||
