1 | What about people God had destroyed | Is 55:8 | memoriesbymichelle | 172729
I am just curious about the people in the Bible that Joshua killed per the commandment of the Lord given by Moses. The Lord told Joshua to destroy them all. What happened to those people? Were they created just for the purpose of dying? What happened to them after they died? If God wishes none to perish, where are these people now?

Greetings MemoriesbyMichelle, The people died when the Israelites conquered by warfare in the book of Joshua. What was their purpose? Was it that they simply existed only to be a people to be conquered? Why do some perish, but others prosper? Isaiah 55:8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD." We may never know or be able to understand all of what happens or why, or what seems to be "allowed" by Holy God on this earth. But the best part of that is that we do not have to worry about how or why things happen the way that they do, we are simply called to the purpose of serving God. We are not in control, only God can be in control of the world, and we will never understand or be able to comprehend all of His purposes or why He allows some things to happen to some people, and other things to happen to other people. However, there is a danger in attempting to 'rationalize' all things and everything that happens - and that danger is to come to a conclusion that says that God is 'punishing' a people because of a certain thing, etc. God's ways and purposes are not our ways, and those purposes are not given to us for our understanding, reasoning or approval. However, it is true that God is working to our greater good - "we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." (Rom. 8:28) Blessings to you, Makarios |

Thank you Makarios, and I do know My ways are not God's ways and that we can't fully understand God, but if we are to study the bible properly, we should try to figure out why certain things happened. I was looking for a different perspective than what you have given, although I do appreciate your answer. God knew that Judas was going to betray him, even before he chose him for a disciple, yet he still chose him. It wasn't because God was unfair, he just knew the heart of Judas and he used it for his purpose. Again, I am just trying to understand. I understand WHY God had Joshua kill all those people, I just don't understand what is becoming of them now that they have died. Thanks for trying. God Bless You
