1 | His task is strange; His work is alien? | Is 28:21 | Ray | 145839 | ||
The marginal note for this verse in my NASB Study Bible has "21 Lit. task is strange" and "work is alien". "For the Lord will rise up as at Mount Perazim, He will be stirred up as in the valley of Gibeon; To do His task, -His task is strange- and to work His work - His work is alien." 1) Should this give us hope as "strangers and aliens?" Especially as we consider the stone and the rock, even the cornerstone of our faith; Isaiah 28:16. As people of God we want to follow in His steps. 1 Peter 2:10, "for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 11, Beloved, I urge you as strangers and aliens..." In that sense, it is "strange and alien" for -- as John Gill says it -- "it is foreign to the benevolance of His heart." (I'm a little uncomfortable with that statement, but I'm sure nowhere near the student of the Word that John Gill was!) In Him, Doc |
