2 | summary of proverbs chp 18 | Prov 18:23 | Richard Spendiff | 104673 | ||
the usual rights and wrongs, illustrated from all walks and experiences of life. Note the ever present contrast between extremes eg The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it and is safe. Prov 18:11 A rich man's wealth is his strong city, And like a high wall in his own imagination verse 10 shows the spiritual man seeking refuge in the name of the Lord, verse 11 a man whose 'strong tower' is his wealth but note the caveat 'in his imagination'. Verse 23 continues this theme with a different emphasis, this time simply poor and rich, mercy and harshness. AS Jesus said 'how difficult it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven'. The extension here from solomonic wisdom to that of the kingdom of heaven is thus made here convincingly. |
