Dear misspr, Welcome to the forum. Kindly note that verses should not be taken out of the context. In the passage of Psalm 82, God demands righteous justice from the earthly magistrates or office since they are given authority in their office as sanctioned by God. Comments of great honour as "gods" has been given to them but it does not mean that they are really gods. Read also v7-8 that you will be clear about the picture. "The greatest honour was thus put upon them; they were delegated gods, clothed for a while with a little of that authority by which the Lord judges among the sons of men. And all of you are children of the Most High. This was their ex-officio character, not their moral or spiritual relationship. There must be some government among men, and as angels are not sent to dispense it, God allows men to rule over men, and endorses their office, so far at least that the prostitution of it becomes an insult to his own prerogatives. Magistrates would have no right to condemn the guilty if God had not sanctioned the establishment of government, the administration of law, and the execution of sentences. Here the Spirit speaks most honourably of these offices, even when it censures the officers; and thereby teaches us to render honour to whom honour is due, honour to the office even if we award censure to the officer bearer." -- Charles Spurgeon For Is 41:23, [you will find that God is mocking the idols] please start reading v21-24 where the AMP version and my Chinese Bible show: Is 41:21 [You idols made by men's hands, prove your divinity!] Produce your cause [set forth your case], says the Lord. Bring forth your strong proofs, says the King of Jacob. Is 41:22 Let them bring them forth and tell us what is to happen. Let them tell us the former things, what they are, that we may consider them and know the outcome of them; or declare to us the things to come. Is 41:23 Tell us the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that you are gods; yes, do good or do evil [something or other], that we may stare in astonishment and be dismayed as we behold [the miracle] together! Is 41:24 Behold, you [idols] are nothing, and your work is nothing! The worshiper who chooses you is an abomination [extremely disgusting and shamefully vile in God's sight]. [I Cor. 8:4.] Shalom Azure |

Dear Azure, Very good post sister! I saw something; something that perhaps went through my mind before, but had not really stuck... something I'd not seriously contemplated before in Isaiah 41:21-24; God is not just talking to Idols of wood or stone, or some silly god made up in someone's mind. No! But, He is also speaking to me (us) too. And a dire warning that we should not think too highly of ourselves, least we become our own Idols; god's in our own eyes, [extremely disgusting and shamefully vile in God's sight] !! Bless you Sister Azure! John |

Dear Brother John, Thank you for the kind words. Yes, we should be mindful of our own heart. May the Lord have mercy on us and continuously shine into the darkest corner of our heart so that we may repent and bear fruit for His glory. Ps 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. Matt 6:22 "The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. Matt 6:23 "But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! Shalom Azure |
