Thank you so much for your response. I have been searching for scripture and 1 Corinthians 1:9-13 may be useful.
2 | Preach Love of Christ or Obiedience | Ps 103:19 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190591
Yes, anything that will point them to Christ! He must be lifted up to them!!! Take note of how many times Paul mentions Jesus Christ in the first 10 or so verses of 1 Corinthians 1. It is obvious the One Paul is seeking to focus them (and us) on. Perhaps a good cross reference to tie in to that passage would be Matt. 5:21-24 I feel for you brother! I know this must be hard for you and others in the church. The church that my Grandparents, Mother, and several of my brothers attended recently fired the pastor. Many of the members including my family members had already left the church and/or passed on to be with the Lord! The church was divided and had been getting worse for several years. I don't know all the issues but I do know many who were members of the church and I know the pastor personally and spent time in the church and with him when I visited my home town. It still hurts me deeply when I think of what has taken place there. But it is clear to me that God must be at the center of our lives and our local church! I say this to encourage you! Let this Sunday not be a sad day, but let it be the first day of a new direction. Stand before the church and show to them that without compromise, He is your God and He is the head of the church and there is no room for anything in the church that is not honoring to Him! Invite them to stand with you united in His Spirit (Ephesians 4:1-16) and for those who cannot put Him first, well show them the door! God bless, Steve |

Wow! Thank you so much Steve! I really needed your counsel and experience. At church yesterday I read 1 Corinthians 12: 12-31 and spoke about how we are all a part of the body of Christ and it takes all parts to be a complete body, each unique but all necessary. It is a very nervous and stressful time, but everyone agreed that all our thoughts, words and actions must be to honor and glorify God. He is, and must always be, at the center of our lives. I believe that by stating this at the begining of the service, during the call to worship and opening prayer, the Holy Spirit calmed and suppressed the emotions of thoses who wanted to speak out in anger. We all sang and praised God together as Christian brothers and sisters. There are still hurt feelings and anger, but we were able to remember and agree on what we were there for. Before the service I was wondering if I would need a Bible or baseball bat. Of course the Word is more powerfull than the bat. Isn't it awesome what the Holy Spirit does when hearts are open to Him! Praise the Lord! Thank you, Todd |

Scripture ... Deu 5:10, 11:1-13ff; Jos 22:5; Jhn 14:15-24; 1Jo 2:4-6, 3:10, 4:20 ... God's day to you, Todd, We don't know the whole picture, yet can I can relate to your situation. We left a church because I sensed a problem with our new pastor. I asked him to stop what he was doing - I didn't know what. The Spirit clued me in there was trouble. Soon it came to light, people left and later, he did. Love and obedience go together. Read Deuteronomy 11, looking at verses 1 and 13, in the context. Also, read other OT passages (Deu 5:10, Jos 22:5). John 14:15-24 is part of one of his last speeches. Also, read 1 John 2:4-6 ... and the context of both, and all you read. I think it is important to include OT passages, whenever you can. Loving God is primary and that includes -letting Him be Lord in all with our all Then loving others, which seem harder to do. Read 1 John 3:10, 4:20. This includes the "one anothers". Searcher |
