2 | The joy of the Lord ? | Neh 8:10 | Makarios | 218445 | ||
Greetings Edd, In Nehemiah 8:1-10, Ezra had just read from the Book of the Law to the people and said "the joy of the Lord is your strength." (v. 10) He and Nehemiah said this to the people because they were in mourning. The people were mourning because of what Ezra had translated to them (Neh. 8:8) in their hearing from the Book of the Law, and they found themselves lacking what the Law required, both in a spiritual and in a judicial sense. But Ezra and Nehemiah tell them, "Do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength." In other words, a renewed relationship to God and the joy of that restored relationship is the source of strength for the people. For today's application, an ongoing and daily relationship with God is where the Christian will find the purest joy and strength to face each day! Blessings to you, Makarios |
