1 | Isn't Prophecy a Spiritual Gift? | Isaiah | Morant61 | 24534
Greetings Casiv! I think the problem is that Luke 16:16 doesn't say that prophecy ceased. It literally says, "The Law and the prophets until John; from that time the Kingdom of God is preached and all into it force themselves." There is no verb in the first part of the verse. So, it is an assumption to say that prophecy ceased at John. The verse doesn't say that! But, there are many verses which speak of prophets and the gift of prophecy after the time of John. So, which part is difficult to believe? It is difficult to believe the clear statements that prophecy does exist after John or the non-existent verb in Luke 16:16 which you assume means that prophecy ceased? I'm not trying to be rude, but it is a basic rule of interpretation that Scripture interprets Scripture. So, if I have 45 verses (or more) which speak of prophecy existing after John, and 1 verse which I think means that prophecy ceased, then I should go with the 45! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

3 | Isn't Prophecy a Spiritual Gift? | Isaiah | Morant61 | 24553
Greetings Casiv! I don't have any problem with it personally! :-) This verse does have a verb, but the verb isn't "ceased". To me, both Mt. 11:13 and Lk. 16:16 simply say that all of the prophets pointed toward the Kingdom of God, which was being fulfilled in Christ. But, neither says that prophecy as such has ceased. 1 Cor. 12-14 would not make any sense if prophecy ceased at John. Why give detailed instructions concerning a gift that is no longer valid? Why call people prophets, if prophets no longer exist? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
