Our church had a very large wooden cross on the platform for many weeks. Pinned upon this cross were index cards containing the prayers of believers in our church. We, as a congregation, prayed for those prayer needs and I, personally, went up to the cross and touched it as I prayed, as did many others. Not once did it occur to me that I was worshipping the cross. Instead, it made me feel closer to God and closer to those people who had written out their prayer requests. It is ridiculous to think that anyone would be worshipping the cross! That cross is a symbol of why Jesus came to earth, and reminds us why we pray in the first place. To think that someone would be worshipping that cross, you would have to think that your fellow believers are heathenistic pagans from another century! Give people a little credit, won't you? The object of our worship is Jesus Christ, not the cross He died on. And, by the way, our Pastor and his staff prayed daily for weeks at that cross, touching it, and many prayers were answered.
