4 | fasting | Bible general Archive 3 | talmid | 174397
Well put, eklektos. Corin, it is not so much that you fast. What is important is what you do when you fast. For example. All of us sleep at night (may be 8 hours). During the day we eat food every 4 hours. But at night we fast. What do we do when we fast? We sleep! In the morning we break that fast with a "breakfast". Now, Corin, I am not going to argue whether it is a full fast or a half fast depending on whether you woke up in the middle of the night to drink water :-) Well, one thing you can do is to fast and pray. Another thing that is very practical and applicable to us every moment of our live is to "depart from evil" in all our daily situations. Read Isaiah 58 "Why have we fasted," they say, "and You have not seen? Why have we afflicted our souls, and You take no notice?" "In fact, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, And exploit all your laborers. Indeed you fast for strife and debate, And to strike with the fist of wickedness. You will not fast as you do this day, To make your voice heard on high. Is it a fast that I have chosen, A day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush, And to spread out sackcloth and ashes? Would you call this a fast, And an acceptable day to the LORD? "Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, "Here I am." ------------ There is nothing more that I can speak on this... the passage above is so clear! |

5 | where do the dead really go??? | 2 Cor 5:8 | talmid | 174394
Well, if one perishes due to lack of knowing this, then he shall know it! Then he won't perish, would he? Isn't that a cute paradox? :-) |

6 | apostle | Acts | talmid | 174291
Luke 14:26-27 - "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple." This is the foundation of discipleship. Further in verse 33 - "So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple." An apostle is also a disciple. God raises up a faithful disciples like Paul to become an apostle. Someone who can say "flow me as I follow Christ". Such a person can make others also disciples of Jesus. He can not only bring them to repentence from their sins, but also help them grow into a life of fruitfulness. Eph 4:11 - "And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers" God himself does this! In that he anoints people and helps them do the works that He has prepared for them to do. Thereby bringing glory to God. In short an apostle is a disciple who has received a special ministry from God! (Not because he's special, but its God's will!) It has nothing to do with having a post or position as the most people think. The fruit of their work, over their lifetime will testify to others that they have been apostles during their life |

8 | What about those we were unaware of? | Rom 14:17 | talmid | 174271
continuing... "And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness" -Rom 8:10. It means that we are not to live according to sin in the flesh or according to the lusts in the body. Instead we are to be led and driven by the Holy Spirit. Solomon allowed himself to be led and driven by the lusts of his body, and we all know that this can happen - even after we have been baptized by the Spirit. Or is it just physical weakness that causes the sinner to be taken captive? Isn't it sin itself that does this? Don't be afraid of calling things by their rightful name. If we save that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves! This is not salvation of the body, but rather salvation of the spirit. That is why the body without the spirit is dead. James 2:26. God jealously desires the spirit, which He has allowed to dwell in us. James 4:5. Concerning the salvation of the body, we eagerly wait for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, from heaven, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body. Phil 3:20. This will not take place until Christ's return. As long as we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord, because sin dwells in the flesh. But when we leave this body, we go home ot the Lord. We must reckon ourselves dead to sin but alive to God - Rom 6:11. If there was no sin in the flesh, we would have no need to reckon ourselves dead to it. "Do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey its lusts" We cannot prevent sin from dwelling in the flesh, but we can prevent it from reigning. Sin cannot accomplish anything without my concent. This is where the law of the mind comes in, and the cross is active in everyone who resists temptation. For I know that in me, that is in my flesh, nothing good dwells. Therefore, if I do what I hate, against my will, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. Each of us does many things we should most certainly hate. He who walks in the light hates these things. Consequently, the blood of Christ cleanses him from all sin that one becomes concious of. Paul says "I see another law in my members". James saw it too and he asks "Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?" James 4:1. Dont we still have these desires? Each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. We don't need to look beyond our lives to find what draws and entices. This drawing and enticement is the sin that is bound to our flesh. If we give in to these lusts - we will commit sin. We must distinguish between having sin and committing sin. There is no condmenation for having sin, only for committing sin. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity and in whose spirit there is no guile. If we are without guile in our spirit, then God will not impute iniquity to us. But don't try to say that we have no sin. Not even heaven is pure in God's eyes; it too, needs to be reconciled by the blood of Christ. "For the death He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God" - Rom 6:10 Was this death to sin only active in Jesus? The apostle Paul always carried about in the body the dying of Jesus (2 Cor 4:10). If he carried about the dying of Jesus in his body, it must have been because he had sin in his body, since the death that Jesus died, He died to sin (Rom 6:10). Paul did this so that the life of Jesus would be manifested in his mortal flesh. Paul needed to carry about in his body the dying of Jesus. He was always delivered to death. (2 Cor 4:11). People use the expression "under the blood". It sounds right, but it is merely an expression taught by human wisdom. The Spirit never teaches anything that is vague and sloppy. Anyone willing to think about this will find it meaningless. Surely you're not going to stand under the blood just as you would under a waterfall? The blood works within you; it is the death of Christ. You cannot be "under the blood" unless Jesus is outside of you. When Jesus is within you, you also bear His death within, and thus have His blood within. Anyone who puts himself "under something", proves that he is still living. But if we want to live, we must first die. |

9 | What about those we were unaware of? | Rom 14:17 | talmid | 174264
Yes I have no doubts that all my sins have been forgiven. Seems 1 John 7-9 have been wrong interpreted. "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." Notice that the expression to "have sin" is in the present tense. It does not say "had sin". If this were the only Scripture that referred to sin in the flesh, it could be open to misinterpretation. However, we have dozens of Scriptures that show that no matter how holy we are, we still have sin in the flesh. The cleansing does not consist of getting rid of *sin in the flesh*, but getting rid of *sin in the mind*, so that we can serve God's laws with our mind. Rom 7:25. An adulterer serves the alw of sin with his mind, and that is why there is sin and condemnation. If sin had stayed in the flesh and had not influenced his mind, he would have remained without condemnation. 1 John 1:7 refers to walking in the light. The light will convict us of all sort of things in our lives that we have to cleanse out. The blood of Christ will do this if we walk in the light and are faithful to the light. Conciousness of sin will be removed from our mind, but not from our flesh. At some point a greater light will shine and illuminate even greater areas of my self-life. The blood of Christ will cleanse us from this as well. This gives meaning to the verse that speak about going from light to light and strength to strength, until we appear before God in Zion. We become cleansed from all consiousness of sin. "And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness" -Rom 8:10. It means that we are not to live according to sin in the flesh or according to the lusts in the body. Instead we are to be led and driven by the Holy Spirit. 10 | What about those we were unaware of? | Rom 14:17 | talmid | 174259
Thanks lionheart. Especially verse 12. That brings me to Gal 2:20 - "I have been crucified with Christ [in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me." I am living by believing this. It helps me overcome the sins I come across in myself as and when God brings them to light. All those things that I am unaware of and I was blind to, God will bring to light, bit by bit. He knows how much I can take for each trial that comes my way. That is the "eye salve" that I can get from Jesus. I'll just continue walking in the light that He gives. I am able to experience what is written in 1 John 1:7 to an increasing degree. But I need more godly fear. I thank God for helping me to break free from the vicious cycle of sinning and asking for forgiveness! So that I no longer stagnate, but start growing and bearing fruit! I am young now. I don't fear growing older. Its exciting, thinking about the work that God would have accomplished in me by the time I have grey hair and I lose all my teeth :-) But for now, one thing I really am holding on to...that is godly fear that I won't lose the price that is set before me. May God preserve me in Godly fear, just as Jesus had it - we read in Heb 5:7 - " who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear". We know that it is not physical death that is being talked about here, but spiritual death due to sin. To end I am gonna sound the trumpet call - a call to victory! - Rev 21:7 - "He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son." So come along folks! Come! |

11 | Matthew 13, v 31-32, Mustard Seed | Rom 14:17 | talmid | 174249
A bit more about the "seed". What I understand is this. When I was born again, apart from my sins being forgiven, I got a new mind and a new spirit. (2 Corinthians 5:17). I started off with a clean slate and God keeps giving me power/privilege/right to become a child of God (John 1:12), so that I can constantly serve the law of God with my mind (Romans 7:25). So, when I started off on a clean slate, I did have peace and joy and all my sins (what i was aware of) was forgiven me. So I had the kingdom of God like a small seed (in small measure). Then as I started living the life that God called me to, I started to increase in peace, joy and righteousness obeying God whenever He gave light on my sins (that which I was in darkness about). Boy! it is so liberating and my hope only increases day by day. I no longer have to live in sadness, bondage and in dissipation. Intead I can live in the liberty of the sons of God. There is a long way for me to go. It is very exciting and eventful, meaningful and fulfilling. I realize that its all about having a personal connection with God and learning from Him directly, as a disciple. Jesus is the author of my faith and He is the one who has begun this amazing work of transformation in me and He finish this work in me! (Philippians 1:6) Since my heart is overflowing with thankfulness, I can go on like this. But let me stop here :-) |

12 | Matthew 13, v 31-32, Mustard Seed | Rom 14:17 | talmid | 174243
This is how i understand it. The kingdom of God is righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Spirit - something that you can experience *inside* you. It is sown inside you as a small seed when you are born again. If you abide in Jesus (as mentioned in John 15, 1 John 3:6, 1 John 3:24, etc) faithfully, this seed keeps on growing to a point where others around you and those who get in touch with you, are comforted themselves and get hope for their own lives - that it will happen for them too. The nuances of it are not very easily expressed. When you start on this way, you get to know it personally (not as mere head knowledge which does not profit us in our daty to day life) bit by bit - according to - John 7:17 - "If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine" So...you have a very bright future if you are godly and want to follow Jesus! |

13 | where does sin begin, heart or mind? | Matt 5:27 | talmid | 157002
James 1:14,15 - but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Heart and Mind mean the same. Also, Salvation begins with the forgiveness of sin. It is a work begun by God in our life, which He will complete as time goes by (through various trials, faith, obedience) Philippians 1:5-7 |

14 | HELP, Lord I'm calling out to you | Eph 5:23 | talmid | 156899
Is it not possible for you two to get married? I guess that would be a beginning. You can repent of all what you did and start fresh. Well, regarding the way of escape that you mentioned. God providing the way of escape in a temptation is God giving your revelation on how you can deny yourself and carry your cross in that temptation. For example, if you are cross with someone, the way of escape is to humble yourself and forgive that person. God will lead you with that. But you must repent, get up by faith and go forward.
15 | The meaning of the word Akador | Deut 13:3 | talmid | 156896
I see that people have been rather nasty to that question :-) Well, when we begin our spiritual life, not every thought we think are like Christ's. So often we're tempted to believe that something that came across us suddenly or by impulse is from God. On the contrary, God wants us to be exercised in obeying Him. Obedience to His Word will lead to more and more understanding....and it leads to more maturity. It's a growth and a progression. More and more we get to understand what is of God and what is not of God, what is pleasing to Him, etc. So please don't be caught up by your dream.... Move on, there is plenty in store.

Christianity is a way of Life rather than a religion. It is a "new and living way" that Jesus opened for all those who want to follow Him. And where does this way lead to? It leads to an abundance of life - a life of transformation and we partake the life of Jesus, and all his virtues. Possibly this is a time for you to understand all this. Be at rest. Pray. Be willing to let go of everything in your life. In that rest, God will teach you how to go forward. Read Luke 14:26. That is the foundation of being a christian.
18 | self-righteous and Truth | Prov 21:2 | talmid | 156566
Yes that verse in 1Cor 2:15 is really true. But I really need to judge myself to see whether I am really spiritual. The journey from being carnal to being spiritual is a long journey and it will help if I don't judge others and work on my own life. Along the way in matters where I have become spiritual, I will be able to judge with clarity. But in other matters I need the humility to go to God for help for myself.

Love him and bear with him. It says "Love covers a multitude of sins". Problems happen when husbands pick up verses for the wife and try to get their wives to obey them and vice versa. But if a husband or wife picks up verses for themselves and decide to be faithful irrespective of whether the other person is faithful, then they can win the other person's heart without speaking a word.... just by their good conduct. There is one more verse that comes to my heart... "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom."
