1Tim.3:16- There are two words here that we need to understand. The terms are Rock and Peter. The question is, did Jesus (as you have stated) say He would build the church on Peter or did He mean upon Himself? Ok, the term Peter in the original language is Petros; and the term Rock in the original language is Petra. Petros means a stone, a piece of a rock study John 1:42. Now, the term Petra(Rock) found in Mat. 7:24 is the same as in Mat. 16:18. (Study ICor.10:4). An important question to ask yourself should be; do you build on Peter, Petros or do you build on Jesus Petra? Study Luke 6:47-48 KJV

4 | Hades shall not overpower the church? | Matthew | Truth31 | 123407
Perhaps this will aid: Notice Mat.16:18 "I will build.." letting us know that it had not happened yet. It wasn't until the day of Pentecost in Acts 2 that it went from going to exist to actually existing see Acts 2:38-47. Jesus spent a lot of his time specifically preparing his twelve Apostle's for the kingdom to come which is the church. There are many that believe that they are separate, but wisdom reveals otherwise, see Mat. 16:28. Here is one instance of what I mean by preparing them see Lk 24:47(to happen) compared to Acts 2:38,41(happened). The church could not come to pass until Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Look at Jesus’ response regarding Peter’s statement after he told them of his impeding death see Mat.16:23. Jesus knew who was behind this statement and knew he was trying to prevent it from happening. P.S. Please see 2Pet.1:20.
5 | Where does membership come from? | NT general Archive 1 | Truth31 | 123400
I must have misunderstood your question. But, as for the church of Christ…the church and the membership is one in the same, there is no such thing as "a member of the body of Christ" and "Church memberships of today". I say this because, the church that existed then still exists now, we just have Satan's version all over the place confusing those that do not study to know the truth(John 8:32). Following the doctrines of men(Eph.4:14). The bible is the only guide we have(2Tim.3:16). As for the church of the bible which is the church of Christ which is Jesus' body, well there aren't any beyond that which is written through example and diligent searching the N.T. scriptures(Acts 17:11). Oh yeah, could you provide the scripture regarding membership only requiring salvation from sins? Thanks
6 | Where does membership come from? | NT general Archive 1 | Truth31 | 123168
The example the the bible gives us shows that members of the body(church of Christ Roms. 16:16, Eph. 1:22-23) were in different locations. Ie. church at Ephesus(Eph.1:1), church of the Thessalonians (Thes.1:1) at Corith (I Cor. 1:2)etc. Which denotes membership at local areas. We see the importance of this by the examples of when it was necessary for them to: work together (I Corithians 16:1) know one another(1Thes.5:12) to encourage (Heb. 10:25) etc. Members of the church of christ (1 Corithians 12:12-14) are indeed one because of the doctrine of christ and following the word as it is written. (2John 9, Rev. 22:18-19)The importance of membership at a local congregation comes from the example the bible gives.
7 | Hades shall not overpower the church? | Matthew | Truth31 | 123159
KJV Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. We see that Jesus is planning on building his church (singular denoting one). It is quite possible that the "it" is not the church at all but the promise of it being built. Example: Upon this stove I will bake this cake and the people outside will not prevail against it. Meaning the cake is going to get baked and no one will stop it from happening. With this text the church would be built and the gates of hell would not be able to stop it from happening. Just something to think about.
