1 | how do you kno when your a christian? | Matt 16:24 | Micah6:8 | 116514
This is a profound question and one of great importance. The Bible indicates to us that the first step to becoming a Christian is to believe in Jesus Christ. What to believe? In my estimation, 3 things are key: (1) That there is only one true God - the GOd of the Bible - and that He created man to have a relationship with Him. (2) That man has sinned against God and that there is no HUMAN way we can restore that relationship (3) That God sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for sin, thereby making a way for us to be reconciled to God. Not only the Jesus Christ die for us, but 3 days after His death, He rose again and He lives today! In a nutshell, those are I guess 3 of the key things a Christian should believe. In light of these beliefs, our lives should conform to what God wants - after all He is God. What is the standard? Again, the standard is Jesus Christ. He is our great example. So a Christian is one who believes and then lives out that belief. Hence the verse in Matt 16:24 which calls to us to relinquish control of our lives and allow God to direct us. Does this all happen at one go? I daresay probably not. Trusting in God and allowing Him to change us is a process. My encouragement to you is to not give up. It sounds like you already believe in the God of the Bible and in the work of Jesus Christ. As you read the Bible and pray (one aspect of prayer is conversing with God), He will lead you. You may make mistakes along the way but rest assured that 1 John 1:9 says that God will forgive us if we sincerely ask Him to. God bless you! |

2 | giving off the top | Neh 10:37 | Micah6:8 | 116510
The word "first" in this verse could mean "the best". So in this verse, Nehemiah was encouraging the people to give their best offerings ie. the best of the produce of the land for the Lord's service.
3 | punishment | John 9:3 | Micah6:8 | 116253
Hi grantathome24, We are called to be our brother's keeper. So if there are others in my family who know the Lord and who stand by idly while knowing that I am sinning, they too sin by not doing what they should do. HAVING SAID THAT, though, there are several examples in the Old Testament (especially in the life of David) of the innocent suffering for the sins of another. And yet, in John 9:1-3, Jesus is asked this same question and gives an intriguing reply. Getting down to the heart of the matter, perhaps the point we should be focussing on is to live a holy life. We either get the just rewards for the way we life our lives now or in the final day or reckoning. So in any case, let's keep from sinning. And when things happen, if we know we've done wrong, then let us turn to God in repentance and receive forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 shows us the way.
4 | Was Judas Iscariot a thief? | John 12:6 | Micah6:8 | 116244
John 12:1-8 gives us an account where Jesus' feet were anointed by Mary. In this encounter, Judas speaks out about the wastefulness of Mary's actions. v6 gives us the explanation behind his actions. He was a thief and, in his role of treasurer for Jesus' travelling band, he often pilfered for his own gain.
