Hi Jeff, Not sure I can quote a verse for my comment.It was meant to be lighthearted, rather than taken literally. My jovial nature and witty remarks do not always manifest in written form. As continuing with discussion for sake of an exercise in "digging deeper", my understanding is that the Laws for Sacrifice were given at Mt. Sinai - please correct any misconceptions I may have - and that sacrifices were being offered during that time. The Israelites were eating Manna during their stay in Sinai. In research of Egyptian diet, bread was a huge part of daily food consumption. Perhaps when the Israelites complained of starvation, they were missing this carbohydrate addition to their diet? Manna was ground and baked in pans - bread-like. I have not studied the landscape of the area they were camped at in the Sinai Desert. Perhaps there were grazing areas for the animals? Perhaps God simply sustained them? Perhaps they too, ate manna? I've not found any discussion in the books of Ex., Lev., Num. to ascertain how the herds were kept alive. In any event, we know that in Lev. the offerings were commanded in detail, and the priests ate of the burnt offerings. Were they the only people allowed to eat meat? Again, I in no way want to cause distraction from the lessons to be learned through the wilderness journey. Obviously, if this point were of value to us, ie. the survival of the animals, we would not have to be digging and assuming so much. I am enjoying this study, and had hoped to find someone who may have some insight. If you'd enjoy continuing on in discussion, I'd be happy to hear back from you. I'm sure I am not the only person you are corresponding with, and understand if you do not have the time nor desire to continue on. God bless all you put your hands to!! LAP |

3 | Why the need for manna? | OT general | LAP | 179814 | ||
Thanks, Jeff. It is in conjunction with my in-depth study of the Exodus to the Promised Land that this thought occurred to me. I know God's Word to be Truth, and actually "assumed" the same as you. Of course, the miracle is that God kept the Israelites alive as well as the Herds! Another point of interedst to me is that they ate manna for the duration of their stay at Mt. Sinai, and did not "lust" for flesh until they entered the Wilderness of Paran. Although I agree that we can easily become distracted from the message by focusing too much on seemingly insignificant details, I have gained a deeper understanding of the culture and journey of the Israelites through the investigation of this matter. It's nice chatting with you! Be Blessed to the utmost and filled to overflowing... LAP |
