First I would like to thank you for your unique and insightful questions CDBJ, they are very eye opening. After much thought I've come to the conclusion that the ONLY love one can have for God is an infite and unconditional love. I think that anything less is not truly a love of God, but at most an appreciation of him. And while you should appreciate God as well, there is a large difference between what is required to do so and what it takes to infinitely love. To obtain such a love one would have to know God. One who knows God, knows God's love for them. And I am convinced that any person who knows how great and how powerful God's love for them is and knows all that he as given them will live by God's word and keep his commandments. The bible tells us that if you know God and you live by his word, you will be accepted into Heaven. In consequence, if you know God, then you will love him, and if you love God, then you will surely, keep his commandments, and live by his word. If you do these things the Bible tells us that we will meet our father and be accepted into his kingdom. This is my answer, and I must confess I have never thought of it in this perspective before. Now that I have, I beleive that have yet to know God as well as I had convinced myself.. So again I thank you. I would also like to ask what would be your answer to the same question. I am anxious to learn from your wisdom which is much greater than my own. God Bless You -Josh Armstrong |

you make a very effective point CDBJ, I beleive I would say to him "I've not earned the privilege of entering your kingdom, but know that I love you nonetheless"
4 | The Jesus formula? | Bible general Archive 2 | JGA216 | 106834
Hi JCrichton, I was reading through this thread and although this has nothing to do with the topic, I was just curious as to what you mean by "the Jesus formula (70x7)".. I've never heard of it before |

5 | Am I wrong to think this? | Proverbs | JGA216 | 106832
Hi CDBJ, God has done many things for me.. many of them even in the past few months. Honestly, until the past few months, I rarely prayed or practiced my beleif in god in any way. Then I came to realize that My life is going nowhere and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with myself. So I started praying, and at first not much happened, then I one day realized that all my life I've had a passion for helping people and that I've always enjoyed working with children in particular. And there was my answer. So in the coming fall semester I will be attending school on a career path to youth outreach, with a primary goal of being accepted into the peace corp for a 2 year program. I've also become involved in many charities and volunteer programs, and been much happier with myself and much more driven with my life. In addition, when I once could not afford to pay my bills because my situation was so bad, after praying for the means to give what I owe, I have fell into a better job with more hours than I need to pay my debts. Even before all this, I know that god has been strong with me throughout my whole life, I never had a real father and I grew up in poverty, yet somehow, through all the hard times which I won't even go into detail about, my family always had what we needed, and looking back, I can not understand how we did except through god. So my answer is that god has done many things for me, and I never came close to deserving it, now I only hope that through the career I beleive he has guided me to I can do many things for him and for his children. God Bless You --Josh Armstrong |

Searcher, Thank you for your response. Yours as well as others have in such a short amount of time given me legitimate reasons to question my previous mindset concerning "the church". That fact alone tells me that I do need the guidance of my bretheren. I also found much insight when you said that "we need to ask what we can do for her, not what we can get from the church" Thank you for your advice, god bless you |

Andy, Thank you for your response, It is very insightful and I appreciate your words. Particularly, your example of wood in the fireplace and mention of "sharpening requires some kind of force" has given me something to think about. You are a wise and generous man and god bless you for your help. |

First of all, I do not mean to offend anyone, I am just curious as to other outlooks on this topic. I am a 20 year old man who Beleives firmly in God and in the Savior Jesus Christ. I pray daily and am doing all that I can to develop a relationship with god. I do not however, attend church on a regular basis. My experience and outlook on the church, has led me to beleive that quite often, the church in my opinion tends to lead people away from a true beleif in God. Too many times in church I've felt like someone else's beleifs are being forced upon me in place of being inspired to develop my own beleifs through the truth of the bible and to find what god truly wants me to do with my life. I've always thought that the church should be a place where you can go to worship God in your own way and a place to go where you can learn through sharing with the experiences and outlooks of others, yet in most churches I've attended, perspectives that don't agree with the pastors are completely shunned on. I guess I only wish that church was a more free enviroment and that I could attend it without feeling like I have to beleive word by word the interpretation of the bible that someone else has instead of developing my own interpretation. What I want to know is does anybody else feel this way, and does it seem wrong to anyone but me to replace doing what you feel god wants with going to church every week and doing what the church says? I welcome all views from either end of the perspective as I am an open mind and want to truly learn from the beleifs of others. |
