241 | hey Steve | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 41845
Hello copyrightpolice My verses are Matthew 12:26-27. The Lord Jesus is not comparing two different entities here. Rather He is using two names for the same entity. Beelzebub means "lord of the flies." It's a fitting title for Satan. Steve |

Hello Janny Here is two verses that answer your question. Matthew 12:46 (ESV) While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him. Mark 6:3 (ESV) Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him. Steve |

244 | Dress (clothing) at church? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 42955
Hello eagle11 No, you won't find it in the Bible. My understanding is that it became common practice after Christianity was made the official national religion under Constantine. The church historians here can correct me on this. Steve |

250 | legitimacy of the bible | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 44283
Hello Jenny Rule #1. Don't assume you can't use Scripture. The most effective way I know to prove inspiration is fulfilled prophecy. There are many examples (Jesus, Israel's history, etc.) that could be shared. Outside of Scripture you may want to discuss the cohesion of the Bible among various authors over several centuries. You could discuss the great care of transmission in an effort to ensure its accuracy. A great book for this is _The_Case_for_Christ_ by Lee Strobel. Very readable. Steve |

254 | Word for love between parent/child | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 45196
Howdy There is a word "philoteknos" from Titus 2:4. the prefix is from "phileo" which is actually a familial love rather than brotherly love which I mentioned earlier today. But this doesn't mean that love can't be agape love. Both are to be shown. Steve |

255 | Deuteronomy 23:10 and Luke 16:23-26 | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 45254
Hello berhane Here are my answers: 1) You would have to die, because this is a naturally occurring thing. 2) Heaven -- Gen 18:25; 2 Sam 12:23 3) Heaven -- 2 Cor 5:8 4) Technically, Paradise is the same as Abraham's bosom and was a place where the OT saints waited until Christ finished His work so they could be taken to heaven, the way to God not having been opened yet. 5) Three are mentioned in Scripture (sky, universe, God's dwelling place). The Greek word "ouranus" was used for anywhere not on earth, and had to be understood by context. Steve |

256 | Help. Someone's testamony has me upset | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 45260
Hello chynna These things help us to reslove what we really believe in. When you hear of this man's tale or read of a woman's visit to hell (I've read this one), take a look at it with discerning eyes. Ask yourself some questions: a. What does the Bible say about God's dealing with men? b. How does the Bible say men are saved? c. How does the Bible say we receive His mind? We have a terrible tendency to believe experiential tales and ignore the fact that God's written word will always be in exact accord with His true dealings with men. So, which are you going to believe--a man's tale or the eternal word of God? Steve |

257 | Christians don't take Jews seriously, y? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 45266
Hello Ramy I don't think you've missed anything. They hate Christ. And why should we spend any more time on Jews than on Hindus or Muslims or atheists or Humanists or... We are called to take the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). We can't get sidetracked by various groups--even those through whom the Savior came. Steve |

258 | why is the bible called "The Bible"? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 45274
Hello Here is the etymology: Middle English, from Old French, from Medieval Latin "biblia", from Greek, plural of "biblion" book, diminutive of "byblos" papyrus, book, from Byblos, ancient Phoenician city from which papyrus was exported. So, basically it's called a Bible because it's a book. The reason it's capitalized is because the book is held in high esteem as holy writ. Steve |
