201 | The River of No Return? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 21685
Agreement................................ I agree with Ed's assessment of our sectarian ways. I don't think unity can be restored on earth before Christ's return, though I would very much like it. Steve |

202 | What about the Silent Prayer | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 21793
Response................. Others on this forum may disagree, but I believe there are appropriate uses for silent prayer. I give for example Nehemiah, where he stood before the king and offered up (as I see it) a short, silent prayer before continuing. Neh 2:4-5 Then the king said to me, "What would you request?" So I prayed to the God of heaven. I said to the king, "If it please the king, and if your servant has found favor before you, send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' tombs, that I may rebuild it." Steve |

203 | What about the Silent Prayer II | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 21807
Response................................... My previous post gave what I thought to be a scriptural application of silent prayer. And as you've stated--prayer is communication. Remember, though, that we are communicating with the One who knows the thoughts and intentions of the heart. I agree that verbal prayer helps me in my concentration, but I cannot prove from the Bible that verbal is the only correct way. Steve |

206 | Who was the Mother and Father of Nimrod? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 27572
Answer........................... His father's name was Cush (Gen 10:8). Scripture does not give the mother's name. Steve |

208 | Engaged and want to find a church? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 29735
My response.................... I agree with Jensen that the man of the home is ultimately responsible for the decision of where to attend, but the discussion and decision needs to be made before the wedding. It's just one of the many, many decisions that have to be made beforehand to help the transition to married life. Steve |

209 | direction on His Majesty | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 32368
God's Majesty Hello prayer warrior, Moses was basically on the same quest, and God said, "No, because you can't bear it" (Ex 33:18-20). What Moses got was only an inkling. So, don't try too hard. There are many passages that try to describe God in His glory and majesty (Isaiah 6; Ezekiel 1-3; Revelation). It's difficult to take these in because there are so many aspects. Steve |

210 | Gender-neutral NIV | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 32486
Good morning kalos I've seen this on the e-mail lists I'm subscribed to. The opinions range from "Oh, no!" to "Oh, yes!" depending on the purpose and flavor of the list. I'll be interested in seeing it, although I must admit an aversion to NIV which will surely cloud my judgement. Steve |

212 | Is there a difference between the two? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 32528
Hello meekness Holy Ghost and Holy Spirit refer to the same person. Some have said that "ghost" is a better word because it more clearly shows personhood and equality in the Godhead, whereas "spirit" can mean an ethereal, mystical feeling without being a person. But for all practical purposes, "spirit" is just a more up-to-date term. Steve |

213 | Are you intersted in Bible translations? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 32634
Hi Ed I'm subscribed to a Bible translation mail list, and the things mentioned in the article get debated quite often. I side with the author in desiring "transparent" translations for serious study. But my NLT comes in handy for referencing. Steve |

214 | Does the Bible ever lie? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 33237
praisemaster A. The Bible is the word of God (2 Tim 3:16 and others) B. God cannot lie (Titus 1:2) Therefore, the Bible cannot lie. Steve |

215 | Moses saw God's face and didn't die why | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 34353
Lew, Scripture does not say anyone looked on God's face. There were times when God appeared as a man (also called theophany) there by covering His glory, but you'll have to show where you believe a man actually saw God's face. Steve |

216 | How Should I Respond? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 35700
Hank, "The Jabberwock" from Alice in Wonderland or Alice Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll. I believe it begins: 'Twas brillig and the slithy toves did gire and gimble in the wabe. Steve |

217 | What verse comes to mind? Fear Him only | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 36113
Hi Ray, Jude 1:24-25 (ESV) Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. Steve |

218 | non canonical books reliable ? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 36298
Hi Roland7, The best answer I can give: These and other non-canonical works are reliable only in demonstrating the thoughts and intent of their respective authors. Some are historically accurate, some are not. Concerning the two you mentioned--the book of Enoch is quoted in Jude (but that doesn't make it divinely-inspired); and the Gospel of Thomas is an inaccurate recounting of the life of Christ with some outlandish tales. On the other hand, the book of 1 Maccabees is great history. 2 Maccabees is great fiction, but poor history. Steve |

219 | IS MICHAEL AND JESUS THE SAME PERSON? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 37433
Hello Art There is no evidence to think Jesus and Michael are the same. In fact, Jude 9 should put away any thought to the contrary. If Michael has to defer to the Lord, he cannot be God incarnate, the Lord Jesus. The Angel of the Lord is definitely Jesus. You see in each appearance of this "angel," He is acknowledged as the most high God. This fits the Lord Jesus wonderfully. Steve |

220 | is there proper dress for women | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 39039
Hello Lillian 1 Tim 2:9-10 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, [10] but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. Some have taken this to mean that women are to NEVER braid hair, wear jewelry, or have fancy attire. And that modesty is being covered head to toe by a dress or skirt (pants being forbidden). The true intent of the passage is that a woman is to be noted more for her character than her outward appearance. Steve |
