184 | Bible versions which one is best | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 150211
Hello Cannon45, People quote the King James because it is still the most popular and has been around the longest of those currently in use. There is no obligation to use it. My recommendation is to use one version regularly. I prefer more literal translations like NKJV, NASB, and ESV (what I use now). If you like NIV, stick with it and study hard. Steve |

187 | New Wine vs. Fermented | Bible general Archive 2 | srbaegon | 153488
Hello ShezGoneCntry, First, Scripture does not forbid drinking wine of any kind. It forbids drunkenness. There are no Scriptures which state that people drank new wine for meals. The only reference is to Jesus saying that new wine should not be put in old wineskins but rather in new wineskins (in order to teach against false traditions). Steve |

Is it Matt 10:19-20? "But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for it will be given you in that hour what you are to say. For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you." |

197 | How to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 19459
Good questions. I hope I have good answers. Sensitivity to HS--Gal 5:16-26 speaks of walking by the Spirit. As you have guessed, there is nothing mystical about this. There is a need to study the word, meditate on it, and be obedient to it. This allows the Spirit to use the Scriptures to change us. Meditation--If repeating a verse over and over was correct, we could get as much done by repeating our phone numbers. It's a bit more. In meditating we "chew on" the Scriptures. We work it over in an effort to understand it. We ask questions: Who is it written to? Why was it written? What is being taught? How do I apply it? (Psalm 119:15, 48, 78, 148) Steve |

199 | Is there any practical difference? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 20223
Using Bill's questions to answer. How does your belief in Calvinism or Armenianism affect: 1) Your personal relationship to God? An understanding that God is both sovereign over and intimately involved in my life. 2) How accepted you feel that you are to God? Absolutely confident of acceptance. 3) Your prayer life? He desires to be called on and is faithful to answer. 4) Your Bible study? This makes a difference. If I come across something that seems to contradict my way of thinking, my brain sort of "seizes up" for a while. It forces me to look anew. 5) Your ability to share the gospel with others? It's my job to present the Word, and the Holy Spirit's to convict and apply the Word. If I keep that in mind, there's no problem. That's a good start. BTW, Bill asked Sir Pent if he was "C" or "A". For the record, I'm an "A"--Amyraldian. :-) Steve |

200 | Amyraldianism, a 3rd choice or not? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 20826
Different look............................. Amyraut saw this seeming contradiction you are speaking of and determined there were two wills of God at work--a revealed, conditional will and a secret, unconditional will. He never found a way to combine them, that we know of. It's like what we find in Scripture concerning atonement and forgiveness. Atonement is a past event being made by Christ on the cross. It is the covering or reconciliation or appeasement (Rom 5:11) made concerning God’s wrath. Forgiveness or remission of sin takes place when we believe (Acts 10:43; 26:18). It’s basically a release or deliverance of debt in this case the debt of sin. Forgiveness is based on atonement but is a second act done when a person believes on Christ. Atonement is the sufficient provision. Forgiveness is the efficient work. Anyone care to add more mud to the water? :) Steve |
