1424 | Sumission to authority? | Heb 13:17 | srbaegon | 28650
Submission to authority.......................... There are many questions in your question. A big way to recognize authority is by the attitude you take when discussing your pastor or his views. You can disagree, but acknowledge him and his position without belittling. Are your interpretations different or the application? There is no difficulty with alternate applications. If your interpretations differ, that's another matter. Be patient in this (maybe you already have). There are times when it is best to part, and yes, it could be mutually profitable to both. "How can two walk together unless they agree?" Steve |

1426 | Need help remembering a story of 2 men | James | srbaegon | 235099
Hello, Perhaps you are thinking of this passage from James 4:13-15? Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit"—yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that." Steve |

1429 | Any extra biblical support? | James 1:1 | srbaegon | 193286
Hello Robbert, After a short search I found this. Jerome in his "Lives of Illustrious Men" says: Simon Peter the son of John, from the village of Bethsaida in the province of Galilee, brother of Andrew the apostle, and himself chief of the apostles, after having been bishop of the church of Antioch and having preached to the Dispersion--the believers in Circumcision in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia--pushed on to Rome in the second year of Claudius . . . So Jerome obviously believed that Peter's epistle was to believers. Steve |

1431 | Ray--here's the context, and thank you!! | James 1:5 | srbaegon | 143764
Hello Peter, The associate pastor was correct in what he stated, but your intent was correct as well. Matt 7:7-8 and 1 Thess 5:17 instruct us in the constancy of prayer. Steve |

1435 | baptism and salvation | James 2:17 | srbaegon | 113324
Hello tortoise, You raise an interesting point. James 2:17 teaches that the works we do in obedience would show our faith. To not be obedient would be a strong indication that there is no saving faith. Steve |

1436 | ss teacher responsibility | James 3:1 | srbaegon | 33842
Denise The attached verse is a good start. Also 1 Peter 4:10-11 "As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen." Steve |

1437 | Is my situation a sing from God? | James 3:1 | srbaegon | 128705
Hello Eniald, Don't do it. Nobody who has recently recived Christ as Savior is qualified to do this. Consider something: James 3:1 (NASB) Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment. Are you ready for this? I would question an organization that was so quick to ask a new believer to do this. Steve |

Hello WTB, The accompanying verse is your answer. Steve |

1439 | Not mixed Spirits | 1 Peter | srbaegon | 21927
Alternate view................................... Actually, I agree with Casiv's basic premise--that these "sons of God" were fallen angels. I think the comparison against the "daughters of men" lends credence to this. The difficulty, which you have brought up, is that they would have to put on flesh and somehow propagate. One explanation I heard recently was that these were men who were possessed by the evil spirits and their physical make-up was somehow altered enough to allow birth to these giants. Steve |

1440 | What does Bible say about gambling? | 1 Peter | srbaegon | 55911
Hello Pigskin It's true that there is nothing in Scripture prohibiting gambling, but there is a great deal about being good stewards (1 Peter 4:1-11). Do a Quick Search on gambling for several responses on this. Steve |
