1 | How do we have a good prayer life? | Matt 6:6 | roark89 | 59462
Prayer needs to be a priority. In Matthew 6:6-13, Jesus taught us how to pray. If we follow his instructions we use this scripture as a format, rather than something to recite. We are commanded to pray and promised that the prayers will be answered (John 15:7)where Jesus instructs us to "ask" We must be mindful to pray for His will not ours. Jesus promises God will answer those prayers. Remember God NEVER breaks his promises. We see Jesus pray for himself, even though he was God (John 17). This is more evidence of the Trinity. In the books of Samuel we see the evidence and power of prayer through David. Each day as I begin to awake into consciousness, I make an attempt to acknowledge God with a word of thanks. At the school where I teach many of us as Christian teachers in our public school have gathered to pray over the classroom, the school etc.... I pray specifically for my wife, children and friends in need, always giving praise and thanks to God for being there no matter what the problem. I prayed over a troublesome lesson to teach in Kids church and God (I believe) directed me to this forum where I received affirmation of my discernment. I listen to Christian radio and offer prayers to the Lord on the way to work. Admittedly many of the prayers are short but they are reverent and with heart. The key (I believe) is NEVER STOP TALKING TO GOD. Keep your RELATIONSHIP alive. It's kind of like a spouse, if you stop talking, the relationship becomes lifeless. We never want that with God. Imagine if every Christian cried out to Him at once. God reveals how much he loves praise through several Psalms. Praise should be the beginning of every prayer (conversation) with the Lord, then lay your requests at His feeT and let him answer in His time. "Thy will be done" Matthew 6. May God bless you and keep you..ask Him, He will. |

2 | Believe in Jesus? | John 6:35 | roark89 | 64467
As I understand this...IT IS CRITICAL TO CHRISTIANITY and it is what seperates us from groups like Mormons and Jehovah's witnesses. To believe in Jesus is to understand who HE is. The bible states in many scriptures (you could start with John 3:16) Jesus is God in flesh. For Christians who are saved, Jesus died on the cross for sins and was resurrected. It's his resurrection that is our promise of life. In John 6:35 Jesus describes himself as "The bread of life". In fact read that entire chapter 6 in John and Jesus describes himself very clearly. In John 8:58 Jesus refers to his conversation about Abraham and delcares He is God manifest in flesh...."Before Abraham was, I am". I would suggest you also read the book of Romans. It's probably the greatest overview of essential Christian Doctrine. Particularly chapters 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. To believe in the true Jesus, is to believe you are saved. For that is why he lived, died and rose again. May God bless you, In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. |
