41 | Brand new out of date NASB? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 55044
I have Thompson (NKJV) and it is my favorite bible! The 95NAS is not available in the TCR bible, so if you want it in NAS, the 77 you have was your only option. I have a 77NAS Ryrie Study Bible and I have saw no reason to upgrade to the 95 version for the small changes I have seen. The TCR, to me, is a in-valuable Bible and I would not send it back, as I know of no equivalent substitute. retxar |

42 | why do the NASB and KJV differ | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 62198
Almost all NASB and the KJV (also NKJV) differences occur in the NT. This is because, as Ed has pointed out, of the differences in the manuscripts they were translated from. Usually the differences are that the KJV has a longer verse ending here and there. Most here would say that this is a result of scrible additions in the manuscripts that the KJV was translated from. Some would say (as I would say) that the differences occur from scrible omissions in the manuscripts that the NASB is translated from. While the differences are slight, there are places where I, personally, have to make a decision of which Bible is God’s WORD, as He only wrote one Bible. I have posted before (post ID# 6847) as to why my conclusion goes against the norm here on the NASB forum (that’s OK, they love me anyway!). I usually go with the KJV and the NKJV when verses are called into question when compared to a different reading in the NASB. I have also discovered, since that post, that the early church fathers quotes will almost always quote the longer KJV verses, rather than the shorter NASB verses. This has strengthened my conclusion as being correct. The web site www.dtl.org is a good source of information that reflects my bible translation views (I take exception to some of the other views expressed there tho). The amazing thing to me is not the few differences in the thousands of thousands of manuscripts found in all parts of the world, but their supernatural agreement that prove that God has preserved His WORD thru His divine providence! retxar |

43 | Pre update NASB | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 67000
The Thompson Chain-Reference by Kirkbride, as John has said is available in '77 NASB. AMG Publishers' Key Word study bible is also available in '77 NASB. I am not familiar with the Key Word bible but I have a Thompson's in NKJV and if I only had one bible, that would be it! The only NASB study bible I have is a 77 Ryrie. I like it and have saw no reason to upgrade to the 95 version. The Thee's and Thou's in the 77NASB are there to show reverence to the Lord when scripture addresses Deity. This is commendable, but the original purpose in Renaissance English (KJV) was to differentiate between 2nd person singular (thee/thou/thy) and second person plural (ye/you/your). Sometimes this can shed light on scripture that we would not otherwise know unless we were a Greek/Hebrew scholar. Example: Luke 22:31-32 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you (all the disciples, not just Peter alone), that he may sift you (the disciples) as wheat: But I have prayed for thee (Peter in particular), that thy faith (Peter's faith) fail not: and when thou (Peter) art converted, strengthen thy brethren (Peter's brethren). See what I mean! Hey, I know this is more than you asked for, but it's all free here at www.studybibleforum.com! WELCOME ABOARD! retxar |

44 | Why does Abram call Lot brother | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 68171
The KJV thanslates brother as "brethren", which gives most people a better sense of "kin-folk" as CDBJ has correctly explained to you the meaning is here. I call people "bro" all the time, bro. I would never take someone seriously if they questioned me to explain as to why I thought they were my natural brother, so I think that it should be ovbious that whoever is demannding an answer from you on this is only trying to shut you down. If we try to answer all the scoffers questions that have such an obvious answer as this, we will have a long road ahead to try to answer all the petty things they can bring up. You are not obligated to do that. We should pray that God would always give us the gift of discernment when we feel we must answer a "scoffer" (Pro24:4). We are never obligated to answer "scoffers" who's only intent is to shut us down. Jesus gave us an example of this in Luke 20:2-8. Jesus always answered true seekers, as He did Thomas in John 20, but He always used discernment in answering scoffers. We need to pray for that same discernment. A good test to discern between a scoffer and a true seeker is to ask the question; "Is the answer to this question what is keeping you from coming to Jesus?" retxar |

45 | Pastor Preaching in a Mad way!!!!!! | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 72387
Mae, From many of your post, there seems to be a lot of strife between you and the pastor and others in leadership at your church. Why is this? Do you first discuss these matters with those involved as Mat 18:15 would command you to do? Please don't get your feelings hurt by me asking, I just sense a lot of anger and hurt feelings in your post and nothing will ever be resolved with these issues unless you work it out with those involved. in Christ Love retxar |

48 | Angel of the Lord - where in NT? | NT general Archive 1 | retxar | 7483
I find 12. Mathew 1:20, 1:24, 2:13, 2:19, and 28:2 Luke 1:11 and 2:9, Acts 5:19, 7:30, 8:26, 12:7, and 12:23 In most cases these angels of the Lord are ministering spirits as described in Hebrews 1:14, not an incarnation of Jesus as usually the Angel of the Lord refers to in the Old Testament. The exception is Acts 7:30 which is Steven's reference to Moses encounter with the Angel of the Lord (God) in the burning bush in Exodus 3. |

50 | Rebaptism Okay? | NT general Archive 1 | retxar | 18868
I know of no Scripture that would prohibit re-baptism. Paul re-baptized the 12 disciples at Ephesus in Acts 19. These disciples probably came to believe under the teaching of Apollos when he came to Ephesus (Act 18:24). Contrary to the belief of some, they were, from all indications, Christians when they were baptized the first time. I know of no Scripture where non-believers were ever referred to as “disciples”. Paul re-baptized these believers because they had a fuller meaning of who Jesus was. We don’t know if they were re-baptized at their request, or Paul’s encouragement, just that it happened and it was OK. Maybe your friend has similar circumstances? Personally, I would encourage your friend to seek Gods guidance, and if she feels she needs to be re-baptized, I would support her decision to do so. God Bless, retxar |

51 | Is is right to call money a seed? | NT general Archive 1 | retxar | 23977
The parable Jesus told of the farmer sowing seeds is not about money, the way I see it. However, 2Co 9:6 is speaking of giving and says "He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully." If we read the next verse we see that any rewards we may receive from giving would be from giving out of love, not obligation and pressure. Certainly not from giving with the intent to receive a reward. The so called biblical formula of giving so much to receive so much, does not seem line up with what Paul said in 2Co 8:12. He said to give out of what we have, not what we don't have. For God so loved us, He gave. For we so love God, we give. hope this helps, retxar |

52 | Worship and Bible Study: Can we do both? | NT general Archive 1 | retxar | 28803
I think that we can, both search the Bible deeply and be able to praise and worship. In order to worship in "Spirit and In Truth" I see no other way. I have seen extremes in both directions, as you, and I ain't a go'in back! Worship in Spirit and truth! retxar |

53 | dead bury the dead? | NT general Archive 1 | retxar | 53096
I don't think the statement the man made of "let me first go and bury my father", has anything to do with the man actually making preparation for his father's funeral. I think this was a statement the man made to put Jesus off, similar to a statement we might hear today such as, "when pigs fly". Well, we aren’t actually waiting for pigs to take flight, but rather we are saying to not expect us to do this or that for a long time, if ever, in respect to the request someone may be making of us. I hope this helps! retxar |

54 | Why didn't God make people to love him? | Genesis | retxar | 64045
God did not make us love Him for the same reason we are glad our families love us, but it would mean nothing if we had to force them to do it. Many people have tried to force someone to love them, but relationships like that will never work, whether relationships with each other or our relationship to God. retxar |

55 | The bible is a work of fiction - discuss | Gen 1:1 | retxar | 15482
Mat 5:4 says, God blesses those who mourn. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:5 says, God blesses those who are gentle. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:6 says, God blesses those who are hungry and thirsty for justice. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:7 says, God blesses those who are merciful. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:8 says, God blesses those whose hearts are pure. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:9 says, God blesses those who work for peace. What’s wrong with that? Psa 14:1 says, The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." 1Co 1:18 says, For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1Co 3:19 says, For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness". Psa 141:10 says, Let the wicked fall into their own nets, While I escape safely. You can still escape safely. The world says, “seeing is believing.” God says, “believing is seeing!” In Christ Jesus, retxar |

56 | So what is God's vs. Adam's image? | Gen 5:3 | retxar | 16249
Please consider how these verses speak of all people being created in the image of God. Gen. 9:6 "Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man. 1Co 11:7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God Col 3:10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him Jam 3:9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 58 | Any thought?? | Ex 10:20 | retxar | 60844
In Exo 5:2 we see that Pharaoh hardened his own heart prior to the time that God "hardened" his heart. It’s not like Pharoah did anything against his own will. This is much like what is explained in Rom 1 where it is said that God sometimes allows people to continue in their rebellion against Him. God allowed Pharaoh's rebellion against Him to work for His glory. Deu 7:8 says that God delivered the Israelites from Pharoah's bondage with a "mighty hand" instead of a gentle hand, as would have occurred if Pharaoh had shown favor to the Israelites. Other scripture says God chose the take them out with a mighty hand instead of a gentle hand so that His signs and wonders would be increased in Egypt, that Pharoah and his army would know that the God of Israel was the true and mighty God, and that God would be glorified. retxar |

59 | "What did Jesus look like?" | Ex 20:4 | retxar | 56943
Isa 53:2 describes Jesus's physical appearance as having no "form or comeliness". This means Jesus was not a man of extraordinary handsomeness. This does not mean that Jesus was ugly, but it does mean that He did not gain any advantage or favor with people because of His looks. From what you have indicated from your post, can I offer some advice of who we are obligated to answer and who we are not? We are never obligated to answer those who’s only intent to show us up or shut us down. Jesus didn’t! (Mat 21:23) We are only obligated to answer true seekers, as Jesus answered Thomas in Joh 20:25-28. Following Jesus’s example, never fall for the enemy’s trap of making you feel pressured to answer every question that people bring up. 60 | what is the oil in the lamps mean? | Ex 27:21 | retxar | 16452
The lamps were symbolic of God's people; the church. Example of lamps being the church: Mat 5:14 You are the light of the world. Rev 1:20 ....the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches. Oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit. The lamps were the only light in the tabernacle and were to be trimmed and filled daily with special prepared oil. God’s people are the light in the world and we are to be constantly trimmed and re-filled with the Holy Spirit. In Zechariah chapter 4, Zechariah had a vision about the lampstands in the temple he had been commissioned to rebuild. He saw lampstands that had a never ending supply of oil. Zec 4:6 says “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” Says the LORD. Might and power here are referring to our own mental, physical, and materialistic capabilities. God is saying any work for Him will only be accomplished by the Spirit of God working through His people. Jesus Lives, retxar |
