Go to http://calvarychapel.com/library/smith-chuck/books/caatwog.htm#03 CALVINISM, ARMINIANISM and THE WORD OF GOD A CALVARY CHAPEL PERSPECTIVE by Chuck Smith In the table of contents click on item 3. Calvary Chapel's Perspective Go to point 5.PERSEVERANCE This is a quote that sums it up pretty well, but read all to get a better understanding. "Maintaining a Bible centered balance in these difficult issues is of great importance. We do believe in the perseverance of the saints (true believers), but are deeply concerned about sinful lifestyles and rebellious hearts among those who call themselves "Christians." We don't have all the answers to these matters, but we desire to be faithful to the Lord and His word." God bless you in your search! |

22 | salvation/baptism | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 13633
I love these easy questions! For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. God's Word says it is CLEAR enough for even a child to understand! Baptism requires salvation (Acts 8:37,) but salvation does not require baptism (Rom 10:9.) Jesus is Lord! |

24 | How tabernacle shows journey man to God? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 14039
Let me share a few scattered thoughts I remember from a teaching I once did on the wilderness tabernacle. The tabernacle served as a copy and shadow of the heavenly things (Heb 8:5). It was actually a “blueprint of our salvation” thru Jesus Christ. The purpose of the tabernacle was so God could dwell among His people (Exo 25:8). John 1:14 says “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” The tabernacle was made up of 3 parts: the outer court, the Holy place, and The Holy of Holies. This is symbolic of the 3 stages of Christianity. Redemption in OC (Eph 1:7), sanctification in HP (Heb_10:14), Glorification in the HoH (Heb_10:35-37). The wall of the outer court was symbolic of how man is separated from God thru sin (Isa 59:2). Jesus has brought the wall down and given us access to God (Eph_2:14-18). There was only 1 gate into OC, only 1 door into HP, and only I way into HoH. There is only 1 way to salvation; only thru Jesus ( Joh_10:9, Joh_14:6). The brazen alter was a symbol of the cross. The sacrificial lamb is Jesus. The brazen laver was for ceremonial washings of priest before he could minister. This was symbolic of believers baptism. The veil was a divider between HP and the HoH. The veil was the body of Christ (Heb_10:19-20). The veil of the temple was torn in two when Jesus died (Mar_15:37-38). This gave us access to God’s throne. The HoH was symbolic of God’s throne in heaven (Heb_9:24). Heb_4:16 says we can now come boldly to God’s throne. That is only possible by Jesus. The sacrifices offered by the priest were a reminder of sin (Heb_10:3). Jesus offered one sacrifice for sins forever (Heb_10:11-12). Notice the priest stands ministering daily, because his work was never done. Jesus sat down, because His work was complete! Jesus lives!!! |

25 | How be born of water and of the Spirit? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 15429
1. Before “In the beginning”. Why? Pride (Isa 14:12-15) 2. Your are referring to John 3:5. The meaning? Just read John 3:6! Salvation only comes to those born of the flesh and reborn of the Spirit. This rules out salvation of fallen angels and salvation by works. 3. Romans 7:15-25. We are spirit man and flesh man. We choose which man we want to feed! 4. The Old Testament sacrifice system served as only a shadow of Jesus (Heb 10:1). It was only an image of the real thing (Heb 8:5, 10:1). Example: a 20 dollar bill is only worth 20 dollars because of the gold it represents. If the government decided to give us the gold, the paper would then have no value. The OT “paper” was only temporary until God gave us the “Gold” ! The sacrifices served as a reminder of sin year after year (Heb 10:3). It was not possible that the sacrifices could take away sin (Heb 10:4), but only provide a covering until Jesus came. Jesus took sin away and took the punishment for sin that God required (1 John 2:2). The priest offered the same sacrifices over and over, always standing, never sitting (Heb 10:11), but Jesus offered one sacrifice and then sat down (Heb 10:12), because His work was finished! 26 | How inspired is the NAS Bible today? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 15436
View #2 is the only one that can be considered. Neither the NASB or any other translations is inspired in the same way as God inspired the holy men who originally wrote His Word as the Holy Spirit gave it to them (2Pe 1:20-21, 2Ti 3:16). To put any translation equal to what God wrote is an insult to God. Translators can be inspired, just as God inspires us all to do a work for Him, but not to the precise perfection as He inspired His Word. 2Pe 1:20 says no prophecy of Scripture is of ANY private interpretation. How can any translation from any language to another be possible without some interpretation going on? However, let me say this. No one studying the bible under the direction of the Holy Spirit will ever be lead astray by not knowing Greek or Hebrew. The NWT of the JW is a RESULT of their false doctrine, not the cause. No, doctrinal beliefs of any Christian religion is based on any particular translation, even KJV onlyism. KJO is a fear issue, not a translation issue. Let me end on this note: God has certainly supernaturally preserved His Word thru the ages. That has only been possible by God’s hand. In Christ Jesus, retxar |

30 | Are new worship songs scripturally OK? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 22238
The new songs are no different than the old songs, other than age. Many are scriptural and many are not. If one is allowed to pick and choose, the same case could be made against unscriptural old songs, and say they are unscriptural simple because they are old. Many have been listening to unscriptural songs in church all their life, and have never raised an eyebrow, but become very discerning with anything that does not please their ears or tradition. 31 | What is the very best Reference Bible? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 22605
For a reference bible I like the Thompson Chain Reference Study Bible. It is a true reference bible as it contains no commentary, but rather different bible subjects and doctrines with scripture references that tie them together. It is available in KJV, NKJV (what I have), NIV, and NASB (1977). For a study bible I like The Spirit Filled Life Study Bible from Nelson Publishers with Jack Hayford as the main editor. I have the NKJV in this bible also. Study to show thyself approved! retxar |

32 | Are the added bits inspired? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 23514
The passages I think you are referring to are Mark 16:9-20 and John 7:53-8:11. Were they included in God’s original inspired Word? Well, it’s according to who you talk too. If you are talking to me, I believe they are. Some believe they were added by scribes, but the argument is weak, and there is more evidence that they were not added. No bible translator who thinks they were added are confident enough of that belief to leave these passages out of the text of any bible translation. Personally, I accept them as inspired as the rest of the Bible. As with any scripture, unclear passages must be interpreted with other clear passages. I don’t think the 1st part of John 8 presents much of a problem, but many times disputes arise from the long ending in Mark, usually to refute unscriptural beliefs built from it. If we balance scripture with scripture, Mark 16:16-18 presents no problem and should not be viewed as contradicting to any other scripture. Jesus Saves! retxar |

33 | Why not eat blood/why accept transfusion | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 27840
Grace, This is from an prior post of mine and is offered for support for what Hank has already said. As Hank said, it is essential that all scripture be taken in context to be properly interpreted. Let me also add, you must interpret scripture with scripture, as the Word will NEVER contradict itself. The letter sent to the Gentiles said they would “do well” (commanded?) if they abstained from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled and from sexual immorality (Act_15:29) . Three of these were addressing the eating habits of Gentile Christians. The Gentiles were not bound to the ceremonial Levitical Law (1Co_8:8), but they were not to use their liberty to be a stumbling block to there Jewish neighbors either (1Co_8:9). If they abused their liberty they would be sinning against their brethren, and thus, would be sinning against Jesus (1Co_8:12). I think the instruction for the Gentile Christians to abstain from sexual immorality here does not mean the common acts of fornication, as this was recognized as wrong by all Christians. This was instructions for the Gentiles to observe certain marriage regulations spelled out in the Levitical Law which prohibited marriages between relatives. This was something most Gentiles of that time thought little of. The Gentile believers here were simply asked to give up some of their "rights" as a display of their love for their Jewish brethren. Read 1Co_8:1-13, that will help put this in perspective. God's Word is true! retxar |

I'm not exactly sure what you want, but there is a good 14 lesson correspondence bible study at harvest.org (Greg Laurie). It follows a scripture/question/answer format, as you seemed to be requesting. You can download all the lessons at once, instead of doing them as correspondence, if you want to do them in your Wednesday Bible study. Here is the link: www.harvest.org/church/tools/corresp/body.htm I can e-mail also. retxar |
