122 | What is the Bible's take on sacriments? | Acts 13:38 | retxar | 68467
God did not institute baptism and communion for the forgiveness of sins, in the sense that "for the forgiveness of sins” means that this is the means in which the forgiveness of sins is obtained, but rather in the sense that “for” means “because of” the forgiveness of sins. Example: I take as aspirin “for a headache”, not to obtain a headache, but “because of” the headache. retxar |

123 | Do you pay tithes on whole check or part | Acts 15:1 | retxar | 64211
2Co 8:12 says we are to give according to what we have, and not according to what we do not have. I would say your tithe based on your take home pay (what you have) is perfectly acceptable. Giving should be regular, proportional, planned (1Cor 16:2) and also private, freely given, and generous (2Cor 9:5-7), prepared ahead of time before you get to church (2Cor 9:5) to avoid giving out of manipulation or guilt with an attitude as unto the Lord. David Guzik has a good article on giving that you might want to check out at calvarychapel.com/simivalley/giving.htm God loves a cheerful giver! retxar |

125 | Are christians sinners or not? | Rom 3:23 | retxar | 69160
Eph 2:19 says Christians are no longer sinners but saints, so I have to disagree with you and say that Christians are NOT sinners. It is true, as you say, that we still commit sin after we become Christians, but we do not practice sin. Sin will always hurts us, grieve the Holy Spirit living within us, and cause our heart to ache under His conviction until we repent. If we do practice sin and have no remorse, we do not meet the biblical definition of a Christian (1Jo 3:2, 1Jo 3:9, 1Jo 2:4, 1Jo 4:8, 1Jo 5:18). However, that does not mean that we do not have struggles (Romans 7), but it does mean we don’t have to live there (Romans 8). There is a big difference between committing a sin out of weakness of the flesh, verses being one who practices sin, and thus IS a sinner. Let me offer this illustration that may help: When I was at Wal-Mart last night a guy came in the sporting goods department looking at the fishing poles. He asked the guy behind the counter if he was a fisherman, because he wanted to go fishing, and needed some advice from someone who knew the sport. He happily left with his new gear with plans to go fishing. When this same guy hits the water and comes back into Wal-Mart in a few days for some more supplies, he will still not be a fishermen, just a guy who has been fishing. If he continues practicing fishing, he will eventually become known as a fisherman, but if he does not continue practicing the sport of fishing on a regular basis, he is just a guy who goes fishing now and then, not a fisherman. We sin, but we do not practice sin, so thus, we are not sinners. We are Christians doing battle with the flesh and losing out periodically because we try to do the fighting ourselves, and do not utilize the Holy Spirit living within us. This was not a perfect illustration, but I hope you see the point I am trying to make. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh! (2Co 10:3) retxar |

126 | Our role vs. God's role | Rom 5:4 | retxar | 56401
The theme of Romans 5 is our right standing before God accessed by faith, thru grace, paid for by the blood of Jesus. Rom_5:1-2 says that we are not only justified by God’s grace which we access by faith, but that our standing before God will always be “maintained” by the same grace. Our walk with the Lord started by an act of grace and will continue to grow by having access to the same grace. In Gal_3:3 we are warned against the notion that any work in the Spirit can be improved upon by any works of the flesh. We now have peace with God (Rom_5:1) and the battle between God and us is over. God is not keeping score and Jesus has satisfied all our requirements to stand before God in approval, peace, and favor. Standing in grace means we can focus on praising God and not having to worry about improving our position with God, hoping He will love and approve of us more. Our account with God is settled, fully paid by Jesus! As far as our character being improved, I remember what my mom told me growing up “Son, if you want to improve your character, watch who you hang out with.” Hang out with Jesus in the Word, in prayer, and in fellowship, and our character will automatically be improved! This is something a Christian will do out of love for God, not obligation. Gal 3:3 ...Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? May God bless you as you grow in Him! retxar |

129 | Faith apart from reading the Bible? | Rom 10:17 | retxar | 20345
Hi Steve, One can certainly come to Jesus without reading it out of the Bible. God reveals Himself thru His Word, but many times His Word confirms what He has already revealed to our hearts; as in your case. To believe otherwise would be to deny the power of the Holy Spirit to speak to us. What He reveals to us will ALWAYS line up with the Word. In Christ Jesus, retxar P.S. I know you were only re-posting what had been posted to you, so I’m not talking to you, bro, but Christians should ask themselves if they want to use the word “darn” or not. It is only an alteration of damn and has no different meaning or connotation (look it up). If we would not say damn we should not substitute with the word darn (the way I see it anyway). Thanks bro, retxar. |

130 | should you have extra marital affairs? | Rom 13:9 | retxar | 87633
Are you serious? When a man and women enter into a sexual relationship with each other they enter into a covenant contract with each other that is binding for life and one that God only honors in the confines of marriage. Don’t mess with the things God has ordained! retxar 1Co 7:2 Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. |

131 | What is the account we will give? | Rom 14:12 | retxar | 20293
All Christians must stand before the judgment seat of Christ (Rom_14:10, 2Co_5:10). Salvation is grace thru faith, apart from works (Eph_2:8-9). However, we may receive a greater or less reward, according to our works for Christ. Our reward will be according to what we have done and also the intent of our heart (2Co_5:10). That is the meaning of us giving an account of ourselves to God here in Rom_14:12. Paul was addressing the problem of us standing in judgement of others. When we are standing before the judgement seat of Christ, we will not give an account for others, and others will not give an account of us. Heb_6:10 says "For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister." Remember, the purpose of us standing before the judgment seat of Christ is so God can REWARD us, not judge us. Jesus Saves, retxar |

132 | 1Corinthians questions: Gifts and women | 1 Corinthians | retxar | 3873
I am probably not of Pentecostal faith as your are thinking of, but I do speak in tongues and hopefully within the guidelines set forth in Scripture. I am actually of a Southern Baptist background (BELIEVE IT OR NOT!). So I guess you could call me “Bapti-costal”! Am I a nut. Yes! But not because I speak in tongues! I believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit as Jesus promised in Acts1. That promise bore witness as being true thru out Acts (2,8,10,11,19). I believe it is still true today and is verified by the initial evidence of speaking in tongues as the Holy Spirit gives utterance. Can speaking in tongues be faked? Yes! Can Jesus’s words in Act1:8 be faked? No! By their fruits you will know them (Matt 7:20). I believe all spiritual gifts will last till Jesus comes back, and none are excluded (1Cor1:7). 1 Cor 14 does not forbid tongues (vs39) in any way, either now or then. It only gives guidelines on how they are to used in public worship. 1. Tongues spoken for the congregation to hear, must be interpreted (vs28). Notice the un-interpreted tongue speaker is not disallowed to speak, but must speak to God and himself, not to the congregation. 2. Who should interpret? The tongue speaker themself (Vs13). Could that have been what happened in the Church you mentioned? Maybe, maybe not, but it seems strange for a man to declare God’s guidelines before the congregation, and them deliberately disobey and be subject to their ridicule. 3. Why must tongues spoken to the congregation be interpreted? For the benefit and protection of the uninformed and the unbelievers (vs23). Uninterprettd, the sign to the uninformed or the unbelievers (vs22) would NOT be a sign of edification, as would occur with interpretation (vs5). They would scoff and the Holy Spirit would be mocked (Acts2:13) and it would become a sign of judgement. The Isaiah quote bears this out. 4. What would be a true interpretation of a message in tongues to the congregation be? A message of man to God not God to man (vs2,16). In other words it will be thanks and praise not prophesy; not “Thus saith the Lord”. 5. Will proper us of tongues ever interrupt the teaching of the Word? NO! I do not think the Holy Spirit would interrupt Himself. 6. Can spiritual gifts be misused? OH YES! How? If they are not exercised in love (1Cor13:1-3). Example: Anyone with a I have, you have-not attitude. If they are exercised with pride instead of love. 7. Can tongues be used properly? YES! How? Personal prayer (vs14,15,Rom8:26) Build up your faith (vs4,18,Jude1:20). That the church may receive edification if interpreted (vs5). 8. Should we still hold true to what Paul says about women speaking in verse 33-35?. Jesus came to fulfill the law. One of the ways of fulfilling the Law was showing us Gods intentions, showing us Gods heart. Jesus told the Pharisees that an outward display of obedience was nothing, without an inward change of the heart. I think we have to look at this with Gods intent. If we imposes this as an outside display of obedience with no thought of God’s intent, we miss the point. I think we have to treat this in the newness of the Spirit, as Jesus taught, and not in the oldness of the letter (Rom7:6). The intent here was not to gag women, but to establish order in service. This addressed something that was causing disorder, just as the uncontrolled display of spiritual gifts was causing disorder. The theme of 1Cor14 is craptuted in verse 40, “so all things will be done decently and in order.” |

134 | please, where do races come from ? | 1 Corinthians | retxar | 59228
Before you answer your friend, ask her if she would consider becoming a Christian if you can give here a legitimate answer to her question. This will determine if she is a true seeker (as Thomas in Joh 20:24-28) or just trying to shut you down (as the Pharisees in Mat 21:23-27). We are only obligated to answer true seekers and are never obligated to give satan a stage to promote his lies. Anyway, you friend has surely went out on a limb by herself here, as she would have trouble even getting an evolutionist to go along with her notion that all races do not have a common origin. Actually there is only one race (the human race) but there are different groups within this one race. All groups are from one blood (Act 17:26) and all groups are actually the same color, or rather contain the same colors. We are not one color only, but many colors. The difference appearances of different groups of people is that some just have more of a particular skin pigmentation color than others. Check out http://www.christiananswers.net/q-aig/race-definition.html, as it will explain it much better than I. If the race question is truly what is holding your friend back from believing in the Bible and in Jesus, congratulations!, for I am sure you are going to lead her to the Lord, as this is not really that big of an obstacle. retxar |

135 | biblical reason for todays mondern toung | 1 Cor 1:7 | retxar | 10838
1Co 1:7 so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, The church at Corinth was lacking no Spiritual gifts, including tongues. How long would these gifts last before they would run out? Till Jesus returned. Jesus has not returned, therefore no spiritual gifts have ceased. 1Co 12:7 says spiritual gifts are given to each one for the profit of all. If these were only temporary promises, the burden of proof would be on those trying to dis-prove not those who accept. Jesus is Lord! |

136 | what sabbath rest in hebrews 4-10 | 1 Cor 6:11 | retxar | 25470
Heb 4:10 means we are to cease from trying to do good works as a means to obtain righteousness. God rested after creation, as the work was complete. We are to rest in the assurance of the work Jesus did on the cross, as the work was complete and we cannot add to. Anything we try to add, actually takes away (Gal 2:21) Jesus Saves! retxar |

137 | in ezekiel16-53 what does this mean ? | 1 Cor 6:11 | retxar | 25643
Ezekiel 16 is speaking of the judgement to come for Jerusalem’s sins. God was comparing there sins to those of Sodom and Samaria. They had little respect for Sodom and Samaria and thought themselves to be much superior than their “sisters”. God told them that the sins which they committed were more abominable and they would bear the judgement for it (Ezekiel 16:52). Their shame would be worse because they stood in judgement of their neighbors ( Mat 7:1-5). I think the verse you are questioning (Ezekiel 16:53) is prophesy speaking of their return from exile in Babylon. They would be lead back along side their “sisters” that they despised. God Bless, retxar |

138 | ezk 16-53 | 1 Cor 6:11 | retxar | 25646
I don't think it does. I think it is speaking of their return from exile from Babylon. See my response under your other post. Another possible meaning: This could mean the opposite of restoration. Jeresulem's thinking was that Sodom and Samaria could never be restored. I think this would speak to them of the severity of God's judgement on them. "I will restore you when I restore your sisters". I.E. You will be restored when pigs fly! retxar |

Greetings sowvic, I don't see the word "however" in my bible. "However", I don't think it makes any difference either way. I think what I have already answered deserves your consideration. What are you driving at? Maybe you need to start another thread, as this is off subject from the original question and is really getting strung out. Thanks, retxar |
