121 | When did disciples receive the Spirit? | John 20:22 | retxar | 15902
John 7:39 (But He spoke this about the Spirit, which they who believed on Him should receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.) The Holy Spirit was promised to be given by the Lord, and received by those who believed on Him, at a time in the future that would occur after Jesus was glorified. John 17:1 Jesus spoke these words and lifted up His eyes to Heaven and said, Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son so that Your Son also may glorify You The “hour” Jesus was glorified was at the cross. This fulfilled John 7:39 of when the Holy Spirit would be free to be given to those “who believed on Him”. John 20:22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. Romans 10:9 says that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. This is the very first time the disciples were able to believe in their heart “that God has raised Him from the dead”. Thus the Holy Spirit had now been given and received just as John 7:39 had prophesied. Jesus Lives! retxar |

Mat 5:4 says, God blesses those who mourn. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:5 says, God blesses those who are gentle. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:6 says, God blesses those who are hungry and thirsty for justice. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:7 says, God blesses those who are merciful. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:8 says, God blesses those whose hearts are pure. What’s wrong with that? Mat 5:9 says, God blesses those who work for peace. What’s wrong with that? Psa 14:1 says, The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." 1Co 1:18 says, For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1Co 3:19 says, For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness". Psa 141:10 says, Let the wicked fall into their own nets, While I escape safely. You can still escape safely. The world says, “seeing is believing.” God says, “believing is seeing!” In Christ Jesus, retxar |

123 | How inspired is the NAS Bible today? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 15436
View #2 is the only one that can be considered. Neither the NASB or any other translations is inspired in the same way as God inspired the holy men who originally wrote His Word as the Holy Spirit gave it to them (2Pe 1:20-21, 2Ti 3:16). To put any translation equal to what God wrote is an insult to God. Translators can be inspired, just as God inspires us all to do a work for Him, but not to the precise perfection as He inspired His Word. 2Pe 1:20 says no prophecy of Scripture is of ANY private interpretation. How can any translation from any language to another be possible without some interpretation going on? However, let me say this. No one studying the bible under the direction of the Holy Spirit will ever be lead astray by not knowing Greek or Hebrew. The NWT of the JW is a RESULT of their false doctrine, not the cause. No, doctrinal beliefs of any Christian religion is based on any particular translation, even KJV onlyism. KJO is a fear issue, not a translation issue. Let me end on this note: God has certainly supernaturally preserved His Word thru the ages. That has only been possible by God’s hand. In Christ Jesus, retxar |

124 | How be born of water and of the Spirit? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 15429
1. Before “In the beginning”. Why? Pride (Isa 14:12-15) 2. Your are referring to John 3:5. The meaning? Just read John 3:6! Salvation only comes to those born of the flesh and reborn of the Spirit. This rules out salvation of fallen angels and salvation by works. 3. Romans 7:15-25. We are spirit man and flesh man. We choose which man we want to feed! 4. The Old Testament sacrifice system served as only a shadow of Jesus (Heb 10:1). It was only an image of the real thing (Heb 8:5, 10:1). Example: a 20 dollar bill is only worth 20 dollars because of the gold it represents. If the government decided to give us the gold, the paper would then have no value. The OT “paper” was only temporary until God gave us the “Gold” ! The sacrifices served as a reminder of sin year after year (Heb 10:3). It was not possible that the sacrifices could take away sin (Heb 10:4), but only provide a covering until Jesus came. Jesus took sin away and took the punishment for sin that God required (1 John 2:2). The priest offered the same sacrifices over and over, always standing, never sitting (Heb 10:11), but Jesus offered one sacrifice and then sat down (Heb 10:12), because His work was finished! John Wesley's Explanatory Notes in E-sword had this to say on Num 1:14 ("from Gad, Eliasaph the son of Deuel") Deuel is called Reuel in Num_2:14, the Hebrew letters Daleth and Resh being often changed. Other than this, I do not know. retxar |

126 | Where are the scriptures, believers? | Matt 6:15 | retxar | 15266
Here's a few quick verses in addition to 1Jo 1:9. Acts 19:18 And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds. Jam 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. 1Jo 2:1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. |

127 | Why does it say "since", not "if"? | Matt 4:6 | retxar | 15115
I did a quick search on Strongs #1487 (Greek ei i) and found 292 occurances. Not even once did I see the translation "since". Do you know of a verse where "ei i" is translated "since"? To me, it just doesn't make good "sense" to make "if" "since" here. In Christ Jesus, retxar |

129 | Are women allowed to teach/preach? | 1 Tim 2:14 | retxar | 15000
I think you mean 1Tim chapter 2 not chapter 1 The emphasis here is not speaking and teaching, but spiritual authority in the church. The teaching by women in church must always be under male leadership and authority as God ordained male leadership and authority from the beginning. This scripture does not put a gag on women in church. Silent here could also be translated peaceable as in 1Ti_2:2. Because women in church must be under male leadership, they would be restricted from teaching doctrine and correction but would be allowed to teach exhortation. God made men and women different, so this is a good thing! This is explained further if we understand the meaning of 1Ti_2:14. It says Eve sinned because she was deceived and that Adam was not deceived. He was not deceived because he knew what he was doing! He sinned with full knowledge of the consequences. Because of Adam's sin, not Eve's, judgement came to all mankind (Rom_5:18), even tho Eve sinned 1st. God confronted Adam in the garden, not Eve (Gen_3:11), because God held Adam responsible. Therefore, men are the ones that God holds responsible for church leadership, not women. In Christ Jesus, retxar |

130 | What is meant to be baptized by fire? | 1 Pet 1:7 | retxar | 14998
The baptism with fire here, comes with the baptism of the Holy Spirit, it is not a separate baptism. Just as water is symbolic of the washing away of out sins, fire is symbolic of the purification of the Holy Spirit. The "fire" part of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the working of the Holy Spirit to purify the Spirit filled believer. When gold is melted in a furnace all the impurities come to the top and the impurities are skimmed off. What remains is more pure gold . 1Pe_1:7 in the NLT says "These trials are only to test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold-and your faith is far more precious to God than mere gold. So if your faith remains strong after being tried by fiery trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world." 131 | keep committing the same sin over and ov | Is 53:1 | retxar | 14609
1st John 1:9 says if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God is faithful to forgive our sin, as you are aware, but don’t leave out the 2nd part of this verse. Pray for God to not only to forgive you, but also to cleanse you. Read and study diligently the last part of Romans 7 and see how Paul went thru the same struggles as you (and me). Read and study diligently the 1st part of Romans 8 to understand how, in the flesh, we are slaves to sin and have no power to overcome. However, we have victory thru Jesus if we walk by the Spirit and not the flesh. Set you mind on the things of the Spirit not on the things of the flesh (Romans 8:5). In order to overcome sin, we must do more than try to resist temptation, we must also submit and draw close to God (James 4:7-8). Read and study diligently James 4. Memorize James 4:8. Stand on it! We will not practice sin when we are close to God. We sin when we pull away, and lean toward our own understanding. We get close to God in 3 ways; thru the Word, thru prayer, and thru fellowship. Be an active member at your local fellowship. Be accountable to the spiritual authority there. Share your struggles with him. In Luke 11:24-26 Jesus spoke of a man being delivered from an unclean spirit (sin in your case, NOT a demon). The man did not replace the evil with good and he wound up in worse shape than before. You must replace the evil with good in order to overcome. Give this thing to God in weakness not strength. Don’t have a I’ll do better, I’ll try harder, I’m strong, attitude (from you post, you don’t). Avoid situations that would allow you to be tempted. Ask God for the gift of faith (1Co 12:9). When we overcome sin it is always a work of the Holy Spirit. Any work of the Spirit can only be accomplished thru supernatural faith that only God can give us (Heb 12:2a). Ask God to give you that gift of faith you need to believe His Word that you will overcome! In Christ Jesus, retxar |

134 | WAS speaking in tongues for unbelievers? | Acts | retxar | 14044
1Co 14:22 says tongues are a sign to unbelievers, but to understand what that means, one must also look at verses before and after. Tongues spoken to the congregation must be interpreted for the benefit and protection of the uninformed and the unbelievers (1Co 14:23). Uninterprettd, the sign to the uninformed or the unbelievers (1Co 14:23) would NOT be a sign of edification, as would occur with interpretation (1Co 14:5). The manifestation of the Holy Spirit would become a sign of judgement to them because they would scoff and the Holy Spirit would be mocked (Acts2:13). The Isaiah quote in 1Co 14:21 bears this out. |

135 | How tabernacle shows journey man to God? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 14039
Let me share a few scattered thoughts I remember from a teaching I once did on the wilderness tabernacle. The tabernacle served as a copy and shadow of the heavenly things (Heb 8:5). It was actually a “blueprint of our salvation” thru Jesus Christ. The purpose of the tabernacle was so God could dwell among His people (Exo 25:8). John 1:14 says “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” The tabernacle was made up of 3 parts: the outer court, the Holy place, and The Holy of Holies. This is symbolic of the 3 stages of Christianity. Redemption in OC (Eph 1:7), sanctification in HP (Heb_10:14), Glorification in the HoH (Heb_10:35-37). The wall of the outer court was symbolic of how man is separated from God thru sin (Isa 59:2). Jesus has brought the wall down and given us access to God (Eph_2:14-18). There was only 1 gate into OC, only 1 door into HP, and only I way into HoH. There is only 1 way to salvation; only thru Jesus ( Joh_10:9, Joh_14:6). The brazen alter was a symbol of the cross. The sacrificial lamb is Jesus. The brazen laver was for ceremonial washings of priest before he could minister. This was symbolic of believers baptism. The veil was a divider between HP and the HoH. The veil was the body of Christ (Heb_10:19-20). The veil of the temple was torn in two when Jesus died (Mar_15:37-38). This gave us access to God’s throne. The HoH was symbolic of God’s throne in heaven (Heb_9:24). Heb_4:16 says we can now come boldly to God’s throne. That is only possible by Jesus. The sacrifices offered by the priest were a reminder of sin (Heb_10:3). Jesus offered one sacrifice for sins forever (Heb_10:11-12). Notice the priest stands ministering daily, because his work was never done. Jesus sat down, because His work was complete! Jesus lives!!! |

I love these easy questions! For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. God's Word says it is CLEAR enough for even a child to understand! Baptism requires salvation (Acts 8:37,) but salvation does not require baptism (Rom 10:9.) Jesus is Lord! |

Did you not answer your own question when you asked for a verse in the bible of Jesus saying tithing is important? You quoted Mat 23:23. When Jesus said "not to leave the others undone" was not tithing included? I think it was. Jesus must have thought tithing was important, otherwise He would not have said to not leave undone. Calvary Chapel's Perspective Go to point 5.PERSEVERANCE This is a quote that sums it up pretty well, but read all to get a better understanding. "Maintaining a Bible centered balance in these difficult issues is of great importance. We do believe in the perseverance of the saints (true believers), but are deeply concerned about sinful lifestyles and rebellious hearts among those who call themselves "Christians." We don't have all the answers to these matters, but we desire to be faithful to the Lord and His word." God bless you in your search! |

140 | input on denomination? | Acts 2:42 | retxar | 12191
I am part of a Calvary Chapel fellowship. CC is not a denominational church, as such, but rather a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ (Chuck Smith). I came from a Baptist background and was used to solid Bible based teaching. However, I could not deny the gifts of the Spirit as in 1Cor 12. I think CC offers the best balance between Bible based doctrine and exercise of spiritual gifts according to the Word. Below is CC's STATEMENT OF FAITH by Chuck Smith Calvary Chapel has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only to their over-emphasis of the doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the Body of Christ. We believe the only true basis of Christian fellowship is Christ's Agape love, which is greater than any differences we possess and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians. We believe worship of God should be spiritual. Therefore, we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship. We believe worship of God should be inspirational. Therefore, we give great place to music in our worship. We believe worship of God should be intelligent. Therefore, our services are designed with great emphasis upon the teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshiped. We believe worship of God should be fruitful. Therefore, we look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have truly been worshiping Him. We believe in all the basic doctrines of historic Christianity. We believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, that the Bible, Old and New Testaments are the inspired, infallible Word of God. We believe that God is eternally existent in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that God is the personal, transcendent, and sovereign Creator of all things. We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human, that He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, provided for the atonement of our sins by His substitutionary death on the cross, was bodily raised from the dead, ascended back to the right hand of the Father, and ever lives to make intercession for us. We believe in the personal, visible, and pre-millennial second coming of Jesus Christ to the earth. He will return with His saints and set up a kingdom of which there will be no end. After Jesus ascended to Heaven, He poured out His Holy Spirit on the believers in Jerusalem, enabling them to fulfill His command to preach the Gospel to the entire world, an obligation shared by all believers today. We believe that all people are, by nature, separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When a person repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, trusting Him to save, that person is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all his/her sins are forgiven, and that person becomes a child of God, destined to spend eternity with the Lord. We believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Scriptures, and that they are valid for today if they are exercised within the scriptural guidelines. We as believers are to covet the best gifts, seeking to exercise them in love that the whole Body of Christ might be edified. We believe that love is more important than the most spectacular gifts, and without this love all exercise of spiritual gifts is worthless. This is not a Calvary Chapel advertisement but you can go to calvarychapel.com for more info. Hope this helps, retxar |
