841 | Please explain who the 144,000 are. | Revelation | prayon | 6916
There were 12,000 Jews who were sealed from each of the twelve tribes of the people of Isreal. They are Jews that are chosen or set aside by God either before the rapture or during the tribulation. It is interesting to note that 144,000 is 12 x 12 x 1000, symbolizing completeness. prayon

843 | What does revelation say about towers | Revelation | prayon | 16102
Nolesurfer9, I agree with EdB that nowhere in Revelations does it speak of towers and a metal bird but Isa 30:25 is noteworthy. Chapter 30 is about the prophecy against rebels referring to the Egyptian alliance: "On every lofty mountain and every high hill there will be brooks running with water - on a day of slaughter, when the towers fall." prayon
844 | what are the events of the end times???? | Revelation | prayon | 16726
The bible has much to say on the events of the end times. Matt 24:6 tells us that we will hear of wars and rumors of wars; and that nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, (many believe this was fulfilled in WWI) and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 2Tim 3:1 tells us that distressing times will come and gives us a profile of what people will be like. Matt 24:45 tells us that many will come in Jesus name saying that they are the Christ and will deceive many. Luke 21: 25-26 tells us that there will be signs in the sun and moon and starts and the world will be perplexed by roaring seas and strange tides. In chapter 12 in the book of Daniel, Daniel prophecies about the last days. 1Tim 4:1-2 tells us that in the last days some will renounce the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons. Some of the other events that are prophesied to occur in the end times are: The return of the Jews to their homeland. (Isreal became a nation again in 1948). The rise of a great military power in the Orient that can field an army of 22 million - Red China alone is said to have this many. Revival of the dark occult practices of ancient Babylon. Hope this helps. prayon |

845 | What's going on? | Revelation | prayon | 18591
Welcome to the forum Eschatoncc, You have every right to be here. We welcome any questions that you may have. This is a forum of God's word, which you seem to know and believe. From your letter I can see that in your heart you are neither agnostic nor an atheist. Your mind just needs to give in to what your heart already knows to be the truth. Proverbs 22:6 says that when you "raise up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it". You were raised in the Catholic faith...... There is nothing we can do to prevent Revelations from coming to pass. The Lord said it would happen and it will, although we know not when. I will refer you to 2Chron 7:14 in answer to your question of what can we do. "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear them from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land". Pray, my friend, that more people of this world will wake up and see the truth. prayon |

846 | John-author of Gospel and Revelation? | Revelation | prayon | 26420
Welcome to the forum Grandpamike! I agree with the others that it is the same John who wrote the other books that wrote Revelation. There are some specific parallels that help to show this. One is that only in the gospel of John and the book of Revelation is Jesus Christ referred to as the Word, or the Lamb. Both also describe Jesus as a witness. In Rev 1:9 John states that he was sent to the island of Patmos after he preached God's message and told about Jesus. prayon
847 | What do the leters to 7 churches mean | Revelation | prayon | 72148
Greetings, The 7 churches listed here were actual churches that existed in Asia Minor. They represent the various types of churches that have and will exist throughout the church age. Each of these churches except the church in Philadelphia were having various problems. They are guidelines to us about what conditions can and do happen in a church and what to do. Other than they were written by John I do not know why they appear in the book of Revelation. prayon |

850 | what are the 7 churches spirits in Rev1 | Rev 1:11 | prayon | 165298
Greetings varsha, The first church in Revelations is the church in Ephesus also known as the loveless church. The warning given to that church was that they had lost their first love. Jesus was telling them that they neede to return back to their first love. The church had become more dependent on themselves than on God. (2:4) The 2nd church was the church Symrna or the persecuted church. This church was told to get their focus back on God. (2:10) Third was the church in Pergamos also known as the compromising church. This church was given the warning to repent. They became involved in the works of the flesh. Many had once again become involved in the doctrine of Baalam and the Nicolaitans. (2:12) The fourth church is the church at Thyatira or the Corrupt church. This church had let themselves be influenced by Jezebel. (2:20) The fifth church was the church in Sardis. This church was also known as the lifeless or dead church. The church was busy but not about the business of God. The sixth church was the church in Philidelphia. This church was known as the faithful chruch. This church was obedient to God. We should all strive to copy this church. The last church was the church in Laodocia or the lukewarm church. This church has become complacent running neither hot or cold. (3:16) The 7 spirits mentioned in Rev 1:4 is a reference to Isaiah's prophecy concerning the 7 fold ministry of the Holy Spirit (Is 11:2). Hope this helps. prayon |

851 | Revelation 1:14-15 | Rev 1:14 | prayon | 165705
Greetings and welcome to the forum. You don't find that He has blonde hair and blue eyes in the bible at all. The only description of Jesus that is in the bible is in Rev. There is another verse that states something to the effect that His looks did not cause Him to stand out in a crowd but I can't find the exact verse. The language used here to describe Jesus comes from Dan 7:9 - "I watched until the thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days sat, whose robe was white as snow, and the hair of His head like the pure wool. His throne was like flames of fire, and His wheels like burning fire. The description in Rev is probably symbolic. White denotes purity and triumph, wool signifies His wisdom. Wool is commonly supposed to be an emblem of eternity. His flaming eyes signified piercing, all seeing, flashing light, and also a consuming fire of the wicked. His feet mentioned in v.15 "And his feet like fine brass" - Denoting his stability and strength. We are not necessarily to suppose that this is the form in which the Saviour always appears now in heaven, anymore than we are to suppose that God appears always in the form in which he was manifested to Isaiah Isa_6:1, to Daniel Dan_7:9, or to Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu in the mount, Exo_24:10-11 (Albert Barnes notes on the bible). Hope this helps. prayon |

852 | Revelation 1:14-15 | Rev 1:14 | prayon | 165708
Greetings again rodgger, I am sorry I missed your second question. Very good question. People want an image of Jesus to either remind them of who they are or to show others or make others think that they are followers of Jesus. Since there is no description in the bible of what Jesus looks like people have made up their own images of what they believe He looks like. Also many times we are brought up to believe something that is not biblical but since we were brought up that way we do not question it and just go along with it. That is why 1Jo 4:1 tells us that whatever we hear test it, make sure that it lines up with the Word. Ask your pastor in a humble way why the picture of Jesus hangs there and to show you why he believes it lines up with the Word. prayon |

853 | Who were the Nicolaitans? | Rev 2:6 | prayon | 9054
Good Question! Little is known about this group aside from the biblical references. They were a sect present in the churches of Ephesus and Pergamum. From the context of Rev 2:15, it would appear that they were people who abused Paul's doctrine of Christian liberty. It is believed that Jude 4 refers to them also. They appear to have attended the heathen rites and shared in the abominations there practised. Some say that they were followers of Nicolas of Antioch, one of the seven original elders, but if so, they falsely claimed that he taught such things so it is probable that it was some other Nicolas. It is possible that they were one in the same with the followers of Balaam (v. 14) because they both had a similar etymology "to conquer the people". prayon
854 | Opinions on Rev 2:8-11 | Rev 2:8 | prayon | 129741
Greetings, Smyrna is known as the persecuted church. The city was loyal to Rome and participated in emperor worship. In the letter the church at Smyrna recieved an accomendation. Verse 9 says "I know your works". They were works of the spirit resulting from faith and not works purely in the flesh. They showed faithfulness int he midst of tribulation and poverty. This letter and the one to Philidelphia were the only ones that had no rebuke in them. This letter was more of an encouragement to stand strong in their faith amidst the persecution they were facing and were going to face. There were given the promise of the crown of life and to not be hurt by the second death for staying strong. prayon |

855 | Will we go thru the tribulation | Rev 3:10 | prayon | 24964
Greetings Shell! In contrast to what Nolan said I believe in the pre-trib rapture. I believe that the tribulation will begin when the believers are raptured. In the above verse it tells us that He "will keep us from the hour of testing". If the tribulation is 'the hour of testing' then we, according to Rev 3:10 will be kept from it. prayon

858 | who are the 24 elders | Rev 5:8 | prayon | 173545

859 | who are the 24 elders | Rev 5:8 | prayon | 173546
Tamisk, see also Rev 4:4 - There are 24 thrones around the "main" throne where 24 elders were sitting. These are the 24 mentioned in 5:8. (elders represent the church). prayon
860 | WHO ARE THE 4 CREATURES | Rev 5:8 | prayon | 173547
Greetings tamisk, these 4 living creatures are the same living creatures referred to in Ez 1:5. They are angels, most likely the cherubs mentioned in Ez 10:1-22. The number 4 may represent the 4 corners of the earth implying that God's angels execute His commands everywhere. The different faces represent different aspects of Christ. The lion equals strength (lion of Judah), the ox diligent service (Christ as the servant), the human intelligence (perfect human) and the eagle divinity (Christ as the Son of God). hope this helps, prayon
