422 | The "branches" of Romans 11 | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 60198
Greetings, Many have had problems with the illustration of the olive tree with it's rejected and newly grafted branches. Many of these problems come from trying to go beyond the simple point of the illustration. If we think of the broken off branches as individuals, we introduce the thought of a person's salvation being lost, which contradicts Paul's teaching else where. However, if we think of the branches as nations, Israel is replaced by Gentile nations and we end up thinking that there is some degree of Gentile supremacy. These problems can be eliminated if we understand that Paul is not referring to individuals or nations specifically but only about the masses of Jews and many Gentiles. What he is getting at is most Jews have not believed in Jesus and are therefore cut off from the spiritual blessings that should be theirs because they are Jews. On the other hand the Gentiles, who have no claim on the spiritual blessings granted to Israel have nevertheless entered into those blessing by faith in Jesus. Hope this helps. 423 | Worry, Cannot trust ppl and Criticism | Matt 6:25 | prayon | 60184
Greetings Lialia, We worry when we do not trust God or rely on Him totally. I got an email today that I am including to you that I think will help you to stop worrying: Moses and the people were in the desert, but what was he going to do with them? They had to be fed, and feeding 2 or 3 million people requires a lot of food. According to the Quartermaster General in the Army, it is reported that Moses would have to have had 1500 tons of food each day. Do you know that to bring that much food each day, two freight trains, each at least a mile long, would be required! Besides you must remember, they were out in the desert, so they would have to have firewood to use in cooking the food. This would take 4000 tons of wood and a few more freight trains, each a mile long, just for one day. And just think, they were forty years in transit. And Oh yes! They would have to have water. If they only had enough to drink and wash a few dishes, it would take 11,000,000 gallons each day and a freight train with tank cars, 1800 miles long, just to bring water! And then another thing! They had to get across the Red Sea at night. Now, if they went on a narrow path, double file, the line would be 800 miles long and would require 35 days and nights to get through. So there had to be a space in the Red Sea, 3 miles wide so that they could walk 5000 abreast to get over in one night. But then, there is another problem...............each time they camped at the end of the day, a campground two-thirds the size of the state of Rhode Island was required, or a total of 750 square miles long........ think of it! This much space for camping. Do you think Moses figured all this out before he left Egypt? I think not! You see, Moses believed in God. God took care of these things for him. Now do you think God has any problem taking care of all your needs? As for the not being able to trust people and critcism I am not sure what you are asking. Could you be a little bit more specific about the situation. If you feel more comfortable in emailing me feel free, the address is in my profile. prayon |

424 | Daniel 8:21 the shaggy goat. | Dan 8:21 | prayon | 60118
Greetings just me, In Daniel's interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar's dream in Chap 2 Daniel told us that the belly and thighs of bronze represented a kingdom which would rule over all the earth. This was the kingdom of Macedonia and Greece. These countries were under the leadership of Alexander the Great beginning in 334 BC. In Daniels perspective all the earth would be conquered by his leadership. In verse 8:21 it tells us that the goat was the kingdom of Greece. Alexander the Great knew that he fit the profile of that prophecy. I believe you could get the history part from any ancient/biblical history book. prayon |

425 | Baptism nulifies adultery? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 60111
NO. It does not. There is no way that a adulterous union can be turned into a sanctified one. The only union that the bible and God sanctifies is marriage of a man and a woman. You can be forgiven for adultery though. All you have to do is ask God for forgiveness, and if you ask it with a sincere heart and then just as Jesus did with the woman at the well who was commiting adultry (John 8:1-11) Jesus will forgive you and tell you to "go and sin no more"(v.11). prayon

427 | Church Building or Not | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 60103
Greetings, I have been to many churches that do not have a "permanent home". One instance comes to mind when the pastor wanted so badly to have a permanent home that he went ahead and put a down payment on a building. However, it wasn't Gods time and he found out that there were zoning laws and he could not move in there. I am not sure if he was able to get the money back or not. He learned a hard lesson in not trusting God and striking out on what self wanted. To this day that church still meets in a storefront. I don't believe that it truly matters to God where you praise Him as long as the church is a church based on the word and that church worships God and puts Him above all else. If your church is a church that is based on the word of God then I am sure that God will lay it on your pastor's heart when the time comes to building a church and your pastor will obey God. Also, I sincerely believe that God will not only lay it on your pastor's heart but also on other members of the church. You, yourself state that you do not find much enthusiasm for building. That tells me that the time has not come for that move. Whether to move to another church or not is a question that only prayer from you to God will answer. I don't believe that the building is a good reason to find another church, but maybe there are other issues that come into play here as well. As I said before it is not the building that is important. I say this with love; maybe God is using the building to teach you something. Ask Him. It is possible that God is letting you go through this time of questions and frustration to help you to stand firmer in adversity. Or maybe to help you to become more humnble in dealing with the leaders of the church, a difficult lesson and one that I had to go through. Or maybe He is trying to make your trust in and reliance on Him stronger. There could be many different things. Remember He is constantly putting us through trials and tribulations to make us stronger and to prepare us for His plans for us in the future. This situation could be one of your trials. Hope this help, prayon |

428 | A Loving GOD Who Hates | Mal 1:3 | prayon | 59943
Greetings mbooker, Actual emotional hatred for Esau and his offspring is not the point here. The context here speaks of love as "choosing for intimate fellowship" and hate as "not choosing for intimate fellowship" in the realm of redemption. Malachi, who wrote this declaaration more than 1500 years after their death, was looking back at these two men, and by extension the nations of Israel and Edom that came from their loins rather than to the individual brothers. God chose one for divine protection and blessing and the other He left for divine judgement. Edom's judgement is further discussed in Obadiah in which Obadiah points out that the Lord's hatred was against Esau's idolatrous descendants. Hope this gives you a better understanding. prayon
429 | LEFT BEHIND? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 59937
Greetings Justme, I think the most reasonable place to get the books is at the Public Library. The names of the books in order are: 1) Left Behind (which is now also on video, you can rent it from some of the video rental stores such as Blockbuster) 2)Tribulation Force 3)Nicolae 4)Soul Harvest 5)Apollyon 6)Assassins 7)The Indwelling 8)The Mark 9)Desecration 10)The Remnant Enjoy Reading! This is an excellent series! Remember, however, that this is a fiction series and although they attempt to follow the bible it is still man's interpretation of the end times and tribulation. prayon |

430 | what is the meaning behind circumcision? | Gen 17:11 | prayon | 59389
Greetings okie tex, According to the account of the circumcision found in Gen 17:10-14 circumcision is one of the ways that God established His covenant with Abraham. To the Israelites circumcision was not merely a surgical procedure, it was above all a symbol of God's covenant with Abraham and his descendants. To the Israelites. It symbolized the physical and spiritual continuity of the Israelite generations. Without the circumcision one could not participate in public worship nor become a member of Israel's community. prayon
431 | What is meant by praying in the spirit? | 1 Corinthians | prayon | 59388
Greetings Mike, mbooker gave a good answer. Praying in the spirit is letting go and letting the Holy Spirit do the praying. When I don't know what to pray the Holy Spirit does. Praying in the spirit is just that - putting self on the back burner and allowing the Holy Spirit inside of you to come out and pray what needs to be prayed. prayon

433 | why blood for sin-offering? | Heb 9:22 | prayon | 59386
Greetings turtlesrcool,The blood is an important part of the sacrifice becuse the life of the flesh is the blood. Blood carries life sustaining elements to all parts of the body; therefore it represents the essence of life. In contrast, the shedding of blood represents the shedding of life. Since blood contains the life, blood is sacred to God. Shed blood from a substitute atones for or covers the sinner, who is then allowed to live. In the OT when a sacrifice was given the worshiper was to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, which would then be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him. Putting one's hands on the head of the animal was a smbolic way of transferring sin or the guilt of sin to the animal which was then killed on the sinner's behalf. Hope this helps, prayon |

434 | Rosa Sharon Tree | Song 2:1 | prayon | 59181
Greetings unbridledwinds, The rose of Sharon and the lily of the valley are flowers found in Israel. "Rose of sharon" refers not to the rose but to the asphodel (genus Asphodel of the lily family) or some other flower. Roses were known in Palestine after the OT period and are refered to at sir. It is believed by some that the 'rose of sharon' may be a crocus but it is more likely that it is the meadow saffron which resembles the crocus. Others believe that it is a bright red tulip-like flower (Tulipa montana), that is prolific in the hills of Sharon today. (Eerdmans Bible dictionary and Harpers Bible dictionary). prayon

436 | How to correct ungodly co-workers? | 1 Tim 1:9 | prayon | 59095
Greetings Timothy Paul, First, and foremost, above all, I would pray. Pray that God would put the words in your mouth to say to them. I would also pray that God would touch their hearts with such an impact that they would be convicted to watch the words that come out of their mouths. If I was in that position, and I have been, I would tell them in a way that they can see Christ's love through you that when they use God's name in vain that it is very offensive to you because they are speaking about someone you love very much (or words to that effect). Then ask them if they would please not use those words while you are around. And remember at all times to let them see the light of God shining forth in your life so that they will want what you have. prayon |

437 | what are the ten commandments? | Ex 20:2 | prayon | 58994
Greetings gregdy, What we call the 10 commandments are also called The Law, The Covenant, the Tables of Testimony or by the Jews the Ten Words and are a series of commands from God to the chosen people. It is impossible to overstate the importance of this divinely imparted moral code. They are the fundamental principles of Israelite religion. Taken in proper setting they are the covenant terms imposed by God upon His covenant partners. Jesus stated in the sermon on the Mount that He did not come too destroy the OT law but to fulfill it. The 2nd part of the Sermon on the Mount, (Matt 5:17-6:18), reveals a very close correspondence between these two revelations of God's will for His peole. He reminds us that God demands purity, love and devotion from the heart, as well as in outward conduct. The 10 commandments are as important today as they were in Moses day. Today many people revere the Bible and the 10 commandments but they do not read it. A good many can not even remember one of the commandments. It is no wonder that the world is in the shape it is. prayon |

440 | why God? | Job 2:6 | prayon | 58770
Greetings lialia, God allows us to go through the wildernesses we go through to help us grow and mature. We need to continue to grow in our walk with the Lord so that we will learn what we need to know to do His work. God gives us the choice of how we want to deal with these wildernesses. It is very easy to take your focus off God and focus on self and the circumstances we are in. It takes strength to keep our eyes on Christ. When we become depressed and discouraged we are allowing Satan to have control over our emotions. God does not want this to happen. He wants us to keep our eyes on Him and allow Him to deal with the negative circumstances. Matt 7:9-11 asks us what father when his son asks for bread will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish will give him a serpent? How much more will your father in heaven give things to those who ask him? God wants His children to be happy, the above verses tell us this. Be strong and keep your eyes focused on Jesus. Do not allow Satan to gain control of any aspect of your life. Some thing to think about: If God did not give us hard times we would not know how to appreciate the good times. prayon |
