3 | confusion with Acts 5:1 | Heb 13:8 | popdzl | 89352
Dan, Congratulations on your chose for life. You are developing a good habit by reading the Word. I encourage you to stay diligent in your studies. As you study, there will be passages of scripture that you may not understand or believe at all. But as you begin TO DO the things which you have read, e.g. pray without ceasing, meditate on the Word, lean not to your own understanding, etc., God will reveal things to you in answer to your questions or disbelief. I warn you, be not wary of the passages which you do not understand, but of the ones which you do; Revelations will continue for you as you are willing to accept them, but as you are holding on to that which you understand, you will not be able to receive anything more which God has for you. God does everything decent and in order; therefore He will not reveal B until you understand A. But if you accept A as the ultimate truth, you will never get to Z. In response to your question, the couple had all the opportunity to repent from the time they conceived of the idea to hold back until the time in which they actually held back. Their immediate death shows that the presence of God was at that place of assembly, therefore, sin could not be present. Read the following scripture and meditate on them: Mt 12:22-37, Ja 1:13-18, and Rev 3:14-19. I admonish you to read Psalms and Proverbs (read at least one of each daily); in them you will find a lot of the wisdom, trust, love, and strength of God which you will need in your spiritual warfare. Continue to seek, for "blessed are they which do hunger and thirt after righteousness: for they will be filled." May God bless you and grant you peace in Jesus' name. |

4 | How does the Bible explain Rahab's lie? | James 4:17 | popdzl | 89159
The only place in the Bible where a lie is condoned is in 1Kings 22:22-23. The lie Rahab told, although beneficial, was not condoned by God. We must understand that at this particular moment, Rahab had not been introduced to God and therefore, she had no trust in Him. She had however heard of the greatness of God's power and as a result she feared Him and thus the Israelites. Because of this fear, she aligned herself with them by protecting the spies. The only way she knew how to prevent their capture was by lying. If she had a prior relationship in right standing with God, He would have led her in what to do and say when the spies and soldiers had approached her respectively. The lie condoned in 1Kings is a result of God granting us our heart's desire. In this episode, Ahab wanted to believe that he would be triumphant in battle. Because of his hubris, God sent a lying spirit to the prophets whom Ahab trusted. God provided the truth through Micaiah, but Ahab chose to disregard his words because he did not like the prophesies that Micaiah gave. As a result, Ahab was killed in the battle. So, truly, there is no cause good enough to lie. If a believer in Christ lies, s/he is denying God and thus Christ. Travellers on the Way should always put there trust in God in that He will always make a way for us even if the situation seems to call for us to stray or bend. God bless. |

5 | The way to get to Heaven | John 14:6 | popdzl | 88979
Dwilde, Can you clarify your question, are you wanting to know what other religions teach is the way to heaven as opposed to Christianity? If so, search the web. |

6 | What about those who never hear gospel? | Prov 24:12 | popdzl | 85852
Does he go to hell? Who can say? But, Pr 24:12 supports the idea that God considers ALL things in judgement of our works. Jer 32:40 supports the idea that the word of God is in the heart of us all. Whether we listen to it is another matter entirely. Ro 1:19-20 tells that there is no excuse for the non-belief in the existence of God. Meditating on these three scripture alone, one can come to a myriad of conclusions about the condition of the soul of one who has not heard the gospel of Jesus Christ, but the bottom line is that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No man can come to the father except through Him, but does this mean that an unhearing native is damned to hell? My God is the most merciful, holy one of Israel and as such, considers all things. But to answer your question on its face, no he does not go to hell, although, the skeptic who posed the question may be another story. |

7 | was jonathan faithful to GOD AND WHY | 1 Sam 15:23 | popdzl | 85799
Jonathan was faithful to God because Saul had been rejected and David had been chosen. Once David had been chosen, Jonathan paid the cost of discipleship by forsaking his father (in matters concerning David) and thus remaining faithful to God. Jonathon's role was to keep God's servant safe from the king at his court.
8 | Modern-day Pharisees and Scribes | Matt 23:9 | popdzl | 85796
We as servants of christ must look at our actions and words as we minister unto others, and we must be truthful with ourselves. People outside of God's will look to us as examples of how "Christians" should act; sadly, many of us-me especially-do not do the things which we know to be God's righteousness. Yet, we are quick to minister to others and tell them what they should do, how they should act, etc. in order to be in a better standing with God. We tend to lean on our own understanding and to be self-righteous. Most of us tend to use the sword of the spirit as a weapon to destroy external adversaries instead of internal ones. If we practiced the teachings of Christ, we would see that our biggest enemy is the adversary within us.
9 | Questions on the Divine Nature | NT general Archive 1 | popdzl | 85721
A believer CAN NOT partake of the divine nature of Christ without a genuine relationship with the Lord; and still this relationship must be a proper servant-master relationship. Even still, a believer must become a disciple and be willing to forsake all that s/he has in the world. We are conformed to the image of the Lord through what we ingest supernaturally from God. This is why we are admonished to think properly; why we are to remember that we do not struggle against people but against powers and principalities; why we can do all things through God who strengthens us, etc. The natural world is the evidence of the spiritual; it is a copy of sorts. So, as we "ingest" the Holy Spirit, the evidence of this will be our actions, thoughts, and speech in the natural world. Personally, I feel that communion is "heart to heart" but that the ritual is the evidence of our servant/master relationship in that He commanded us to do it in remeberance of Him. |

10 | called by my name,who is called? | Matt 22:14 | popdzl | 85666
Being called is sort of like being asked to do something because a body is needed; being chosen is like being a number one draft pick. In 2 Chronicles, God is saying those who call on Him are called by Him; in Matthew 22:14, Jesus is saying that of all who are called, not all are chosen.
11 | MAny are called - not All are called??? | Matt 22:14 | popdzl | 85665
Ainimoja, The translation of the original text as given in the KJV is fairly accurate; there is not much lateral movement for the key word "many" of your question. However, I have previously meditated on this verse and have been given an understanding which may help you. Read the whole book of Isaiah because it is a blueprint of the way God wills to do in giving us salvation; it also gives much insight into the teachings of the Gospels. As you read, notice in Isaiah 6:10 all eyes are blinded and all ears are closed. In Isaiah 35:1-6 the ears and eyes are opened of those who trusted in the Lord; the lame walk, and the dumb speak. After reading Isaiah, look at Jeremiah 31:33; here God has placed His word in our hearts. Now go to Romans 10:17. We see here that the faith we need in Isaiah 35 comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (which was placed in our heart). Therefore, only many are called because not ALL have the faith that is necessary. |

12 | would it be wrong if... | Galatians | popdzl | 43721
If that were the case, (not being drunk and not having a drinking problem) then God may not have a problem. What you must remember is that God has a personal relationship with everyone; if He is displeased with our actions, He will let us know. The best recourse you can take in regards to your friend is present them with all of God's word as it relates to drinking and to doing His will. Amongst these two topics, I believe your friend (and you for that matter) will be able to determine what is acceptable for them; even if it is drinking, you must be able to accept it as it is based in His word.
13 | why three days? and not three hours | Gen 40:13 | popdzl | 43107
Three is the number of divine manifestation. On the tird day, Joseph's prophecy came true, on the third day, God created the seed and fruit bearing things of the earth, the third tribe of Israel (Levi) are the priests of the Lord, on the third day, Jacob, Simeon, and Levi laid waste to all the males of the city (Gen 34:25), etc. He had to spend three days in order to manifest His prophecy and to show that it is of a divine nature.
14 | What do i say to someone about drinking | Galatians | popdzl | 43103
People of biblical times drank wine mainly due to the lack of good drinking water. It is okay to drink as long as you are not trying to get drunk or "drown your sorrows away". However, if one has a drinking problem, one should not drink and others around them should not drink as this would provide a temptation. Ultimately, when God does not want one to drink, the Spirit will move to convict them, and thus, they will work out their own salvation.
15 | Why is fruit singular and not plural? | Galatians | popdzl | 43098
It is singular because all those attributes are aspects of the one fruit. Just as a peach is juicy, sweet, fragrant, etc. so the fruit of the Spirit bestows joy, peace, longsuffering, etc.
16 | is masterbation a sin? | Galatians | popdzl | 43097
This is a very good question which touches on at least two aspects of sin. When one is engaged in the act of masterbation, there is at least the physical desire to ejaculate which one might consider fornication hence a lusting of the flesh and thus a sin; commonly, the act involves either looking at or visualizing an object which would fill the mind and thus the heart with lustful desires and this makes the act covetous (because one desires something out of the lust of the flesh) and thus a sin. Jesus states (Mt 5:28) that even if looking at a woman (object) with lust in your heart, one has committed adultery (coveted). This is why we are to try to keep our minds free of sinful and evil thoughts; eventually, theses thoughts find there way into the heart.
17 | Sin defined by gentiles? | Ex 20:2 | popdzl | 43094
The other nations (and individuals) were judged by how they treated Israel when Israel was being obedient to the will of God. If they received favorable judgement, there was often a condition which they had to follow in order to receive a blessing from God. Compare Rahab in Joshua (6:17), Naaman in II Kings (5:1 ff), the Amalekites in I Samuel (15:2), the Kenites in I Samuel (15:6), and Solomon's dedication of the temple in I Kings (8:41-43). However, due to the prophecy of Isaiah fulfilled by Jesus (Mt 12:17-21), the judgement of gentiles is now based on faith in Jesus and works towards all people.
18 | When will Christ come in Kingdom Power? | Mark 9:1 | popdzl | 42984
Hey Mel, this is a very interesting question you pose here. When I first read it, I really did not understand what you meant with "what phase". After careful consideration, I believe that He means on a personal level.
19 | Can satan read our mind. | Eph 4:18 | popdzl | 40221
No Satan can not read our minds, but he can read our hearts.
20 | So, to honor lies in married adulthood? | Matt 23:9 | popdzl | 39431
The whole thing is that you do not have to honor them; you honor God. You can be charitable, merciful, honest, etc. to them, but you do not have to "honor" them whereas they seem "wicked" in the biblical sense. When I say "honor", I mean do everything which they ask, associate with them more than necessary, etc. Truly, the factor here is how pure your (you and your husband) heart is. Cleanse yourself first of any emotional attachment to every situation that involves your in-laws, ask God to form your steps, and trust in Him. Within days, you will be able to see on a situatuion-by-situation basis whether or not your in-laws are deserving of any regard. Carefully read the Book of Proverbs over and over as necessary. Proverbs contains mountains of knowledge, wisdom, and understanding on righteous living and dealing with the unrighteous on a daily basis (notice there are 31 chapters, perhaps one for each day). I can see how sticky this situation is because they are your husband's parents, however, if you are truly married, you should be (or strive to be) on one accord physically, mentally, and spiritually. You should consider the whole situation an open-book test. So do not be apprehensive about opening the Book to get answers; even if you've read that part of the Book, you may find that on re-reading it a new light has been lit and verses which you may not have understood in some ways may be open unto you. |
