746 | Mathias a real apostle qualifications? | Acts 1:1 | azurelaw | 204153
Dear Tamara, I believe it yes, as literally recorded in the Bible. See v21-22 for the requirement. They also prayed before they drew lots. Shalom Azure Acts 1:21 "Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us-- Acts 1:22 beginning with the baptism of John until the day that He was taken up from us--one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection." Acts 1:23 So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and Matthias. Acts 1:24 And they prayed and said, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two You have chosen Acts 1:25 to occupy this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place." Acts 1:26 And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles. |

Dear LSPS, Welcome to the forum. I tend to say it is Jesus' command to every believer instead of a calling. Whether you feel it or not, it is a must do mission. See Acts 1:8 and Matthew 28:19. Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

751 | Which church to get baptized in? | Acts 2:38 | azurelaw | 184727
Greetings to you llschab, May I add a little bit of my thought to your question? I think basically it is OK to be baptized at any churches as long as they are teaching sound doctrines not heresy and stick to God's Word. To my knowledge (based on the city where I live), Methodist church is very reliable (I hope it does not vary from countries). You have to discern for yourself your cousin's church based on the same criteria. My second point is that, it would be advisable to be baptized at the church where you are attending and more familiar with. After being baptized, the person usually becomes a member of the denomination. Then you have the right and OBLIGATION to vote. If you are not familiar with the church, how can you vote fairly. In the long term, there could be the possibility that you will part-take in certain ministry (e.g. deacon). Some churches will set the membership as a basic requirement for a person to be involved in the ministry. If you are holding a membership at your cousin's church which you are not attending, it will not be fair to them as well. For if they have the system of congregation meeting annually for decision on some major issues, your vote could be critical to them. My final point is that your focus or consideration should not be where your marriage be taken place, but how God would lead you to the place where He wants you to be involved and serve His body in future. I think the below scripture (though not tackling the issue as yours) could be helpful for your consideration. 2 Corinthians 11 8: I robbed other churches by taking wages from them to serve you; 9: and when I was present with you and was in need, I was not a burden to anyone; for when the brethren came from Macedonia they fully supplied my need, and in everything I kept myself from being a burden to you, and will continue to do so. Shalom Azure |

752 | Acts 2:4 disciple filled with holy ghost | Acts 4:31 | azurelaw | 217625
Dear Edd, Acts 2:4 and Acts 4:31 are similar yet somewhat different. Acts 2:4 is the promise that Jesus made to the disciples in ch 1:4-5. Through which they are empowered to speak in tongues and start to preach before they experience the first persecution (ch 4:1). According to the flow of the context of the first 4 chapters, we see that after Peter and John are released, they get together again to pray for boldness (4:24-30) to spread the Gospel and to work miracles in the name of Jesus as taught...then God answers their prayer in v31 to fill them with Holy Spirit to preach the Gospel BOLDLY despite the opppression or persecution. Here, we see how their faith have grown so much. Hope the above is helpful. Shalom Azure |

753 | Acts 7:54-8-1 | Acts 7:58 | azurelaw | 195613
Dear it is written, Just like your user name "it is written"...:-) Scripture does not show Saul actively participated in stoning or flogging Stephen. His name was first mentioned in verse 58 where he was taking care of the garments of those persecutors. But in verse 60, Saul was pleased that Stephen be stoned to death. It is reasonable to believe that Saul belonged to the angry crowd. Chapter 9 has explicitly confirmed Saul's persecution on the believers. Hope the above is helpful. Shalom Azure |

757 | what are 3 meanings of LOVE | Romans | azurelaw | 190102
Dear kkstone, Welcome to the forum. I am curious to know why do you think there are 3 meanings of love in OT and NT. God is love. Roman 5:8 But God DEMONSTRATES HIS OWN LOVE (I capitlize it for emphasis) toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Please read 1 Cor 13 and Roman 5. I hope I have answered your question. Shalom Azure |

758 | Why all people need the mercy of God? | Romans | azurelaw | 191608
Dear begbie, Since you have quoted the book Roman, may I direct you to the verse 23 on Chapter 3 "...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," It is for this reason (see also v 11-12), we cannot escape from God's wrath unless by the blood of the Lamb as you can read on in v 24. Paul has deliberately explained that we, sinners, are hopeless and cannot do anything to save ourselves. It is solely by the grace of God through the faith given to us in Christ that we can reconcile with God. "It is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God." (Ephesians 2:8) "Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:9-10) So, when we were still sinners, we were sick (Mark 2:17), we were dead (John 3:16), we were the enemy of the sovereign God (James 4:4)thus were under God's wrath (John 3:36). Hope this helps. Shalom Azure |

760 | Was the Bible written by astrologers? | Rom 1:19 | azurelaw | 196235
Dear tonyp, I think your focus of discussion should not be on the fortune telling or astrologers. Lead your father to the Word of God. Read with him the book of Gospels and Paul's epistles. I would recommend you show him Rom 1:16-25. Pay attention to v22. When a person is blind and deaf, how can he see and hear (therefore, is he capable of making sense?) see what Jesus said in Mat 11:25. Let God's Word speak to him. I understand your concern on your father's salvation. I will pray for you. Shalom Azure |
