661 | Pastor giving a wrong info | Luke 6:37 | azurelaw | 223228
00123, Like BMyer said, you need to talk to your pastor. From the information you have given, I believe you have a better discernment than your pastor. Being God's shepherd, a pastor should feed the sheep properly. Paul admonished and encouraged Timothy to be a faithful servant in teaching God's Word (1 Tim 4:16). I hope your pastor do remember 2 John 1:9-11. I also wonder could your pastor be buying into the teaching of Winfrey :-( If so, you have very good reason to challenge him and worry for your congregation. Shalom Azure |

662 | give and it shall be givin | Luke 6:38 | azurelaw | 192838
Dear Mike, Hope the below is helpful. Shalom Azure ****** The Lord's discourse is divided into several branches. Verses 20-26 The contrast between the remnant, manifested as His disciples, and the multitude who were satisfied with the world, adding a warning to those who stood in the place of disciples, and in that gained the favour of the world. Woe be to such! Remark also here, that it is not a question of persecution for righteousness' sake, as in Matthew, but only for His name's sake. All was marked by attachment to His Person. Verses 27-36. The character of God their Father in the manifestation of grace in Christ, which they were to imitate. He reveals, note, the Father's name and puts them in the place of children. Verses 37, 38. This character particularly developed in the position of Christ, as He was on earth at that time, Christ fulfilling His service on earth. This implied government and recompense on God's part, as was the case with regard to Christ Himself. Verse 39. The condition of the leaders in Israel, and the connection between them and the multitude. Verse 40. That of the disciples in relation to Christ. Verses 41, 42. The way to attain it, and to see clearly in the midst of evil, is to put evil away from oneself. (John Darby’s Synopsis of the Bible) |

663 | Tie between Luke 7 and John 11? | Luke 7:36 | azurelaw | 192227
Dear Hawkeye, I assume you meant the women who poured perfume onto Jesus's feet. Below is what I have got - which I believe should be helpful: ****** And behold, a woman in the city,.... Not Mary Magdalene, spoken of in Luke 8:2 under another character; and is a different person, who had not been taken notice of by the evangelist before; nor Mary the sister of Lazarus, who is said to anoint the feet of Christ, and wipe them with her hair, John 12:3. The character given of this woman, does not seem so well to agree with her; at least, the fact here recorded, cannot be the same with that; for this was in Galilee, and that in Bethany; this in the house of Simon the Pharisee, that in the house of Lazarus; this was some time before Christ's death, and after this he went a circuit through every city and village, that was but six days before his death, and after which he never went from those parts; nor is this account the same with the history, recorded in Matthew 26:6 for that fact was done in Bethany also, this in Galilee; that in the house of Simon: the leper, this in the house of Simon the Pharisee; that was but two days before the death of Christ, this a considerable time before; the ointment that woman poured, was poured upon his head, this upon his feet: who this woman was, is not certain, nor in what city she dwelt; it seems to be the same in which the Pharisee's house was; and was no doubt one of the cities of Galilee, as Naim, Capernaum, or some other at no great distance from these: which was a sinner; a notorious sinner, one that was known by all to have been a person of a wicked, life and conversation; a lewd woman, a vile prostitute, an harlot, commonly reputed so: the Arabic word here used, signifies both a sinner and a whore; and so the word, sinners, seems to be used elsewhere by Luke; see Luke 15:1 compared with Matthew 21:31. Some think she was a Gentile, Gentiles being reckoned by the Jews sinners, and the worst of sinners; but this does not appear: when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house; having observed it herself, that he was invited by him, and went with him, or being informed of it by others... - John Gill's Exposition of the Bible (source: eword.gospelcom.net/comments/luke/gill/luke7.htm) ****** Shalom Azure |

Dear mpayne, Welcome to the forum. The meaning lies in verse 24. Jesus's figurative expression in v25 was an exageration for explaining the level of hardness for a wealth man to enter into the kingdom of God. Shalom Azure |

679 | who is nathanael? | John | azurelaw | 218838
Dear tls, I think the below could be helpful: "Nathanael (gift of God), a disciple of Jesus Christ, concerning whom, under that name at least, we learn from Scripture little more than his birthplace, Cana of Galilee, (John 21:2) and his simple, truthful character. (John 1:47) The name does not occur in the first three Gospels; but it is commonly believed that Nathanael and Bartholomew are the same person. The evidence for that belief is as follows: St, John who twice mentions Nathanael, never introduces the name of Bartholomew at all. St. Matthew, (Matthew 10:3) St. Mark, (Mark 3:18) and St. Luke, (Luke 8:14) all speak of Bartholomew but never of Nathanael. If was Philip who first brought Nathanael to Jesus, just as Andrew had brought his brother Simon." (source: http://net.bible.org) Shalom Azure |
