Dear Michael, John the Baptist witness Him (Mat 3:11-14) God witness Him (Mat 3:17, John 5:30-38) The below commentary from John Gill is helpful, too. “And Jesus rebuked him,.... Checking his insolence, despising his flattery, and refusing to receive a testimony from him; and which he wanted not, lest it should be thought he had a familiarity and confederacy with him: saying, hold thy peace; stop thy mouth, I need no such witness as thine, nor thy praises; I am not to be soothed by thy flattery, nor is my mouth to be stopped, or power restrained, by such methods: wherefore he adds, and come out of him: I will not let thee alone, thy encomiums of me shall not prevail upon me to leave thee in the quiet possession of the man; I will give a testimony of who I am, by the dispossessing of thee out of this man…” Shalom Azure |

626 | Why bring a sick to Jesus? | Mark 1:30 | azurelaw | 201753
Dear WIP, Welcome to the forum. Jesus' prior healing or miracles were also recorded in Mathew 4:23-25. After His discourse on the beatitudes through Ch 5-7, He healed a leper and a centurion's servant in Ch 8 before healing Peter's mother-in-law. See also Luke 4:16-24 applied the text of Isaiah (v 18) to himself as Matthew Henry put it: [Here is Christ's application of this text to himself (v. 21): When he had read it, he rolled up the book, and gave it again to the minister, or clerk, that attended, and sat down, according to the custom of the Jewish teachers; he sat daily in the temple, teaching, Mt. 26:55. Now he began his discourse thus, "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. This, which Isaiah wrote by way of prophecy, I have now read to you by way of history." It now began to be fulfilled in Christ's entrance upon his public ministry; now, IN THE REPORT THEY HEARD OF HIS PREACHING AND MIRACLES IN OTHER PLACES; NOW, IN HIS PREACHING TO THEM IN THEIR OWN SYNAGOGUE.] Hope the above helpful. 627 | Living in Sin | Mark 2:1 | azurelaw | 192211
Dear believer---, First of all, do they know that they are living in sin and grieve for it? Are they will to repent though they lack the faith and ability? In what way they are willing to accept Christ? In Mark 2:1-5 Jesus still forgives the sinner who is unable to go to Him by himself but just by the help of his dear friends (like you). What a loving picture it is!!! See also John 8:3-12 While people were so eager to condemn, Jesus gave. Please note verse ll Jesus said, "I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more." Verse 12: Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life." I hope I have helped. Shalom Azure |

628 | analyze the paralyzed man his healing | Mark 2:1 | azurelaw | 194843
Dear cantymantwo, I believe you meant Mark 2:1. This is one of the many touching scenes in the scriptures that I love. Nothing said in the scripture that the paralyzed man played an active role. He was totally in the passive mode in his salvation. He could not help himself nor come to Christ. (Eph 2:8-9) Next was the four men carrying him to the Lord. Their faith and love (v. 5) strove them to overcome all the difficulties and disturbances lied ahead in order to bring the needy soul to be saved by Jesus. This always makes me ponder the way, the mind when we are in the mission of preaching the gospel or bringing the unbelieve to Christ. Just my 2 cents. Shalom Azure |

636 | What's Herodias' daughters name | Mark 6:22 | azurelaw | 212414
Dear jfh, Welcome to the forum. No, her name is not recorded in N.T. However, you might find the below information helpful from Wikipedia. ----------- The name "Salome" is given to the stepdaughter of Herod Antipas (unnamed in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark) in Josephus' Jewish Antiquities (Book XVIII, Chapter 5, 4): Herodias, [...], was married to Herod, the son of Herod the Great, who was born of Mariamne, the daughter of Simon the high priest, who had a daughter, Salome; after whose birth Herodias took upon her to confound the laws of our country, and divorced herself from her husband while he was alive, and was married to Herod, her husband's brother by the father's side, he was tetrarch of Galilee; but her daughter Salome was married to Philip, the son of Herod, and tetrarch of Trachonitis; and as he died childless, Aristobulus, the son of Herod, the brother of Agrippa, married her; they had three sons, Herod, Agrippa, and Aristobulus; --------- Shalom Azure |

637 | john chapter 6 | Mark 6:39 | azurelaw | 219245
Dear Lady, Mark 6:39 And He commanded them all to sit down by groups on the green grass. Mark 6:40 They sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties. Matt 14:19 Ordering the people to sit down on the grass, He took the five loaves and the two fish... Luke 9:14 (For there were about five thousand men.) And He said to His disciples, "Have them sit down to eat in groups of about fifty each." John 6:10 Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. There does not render such a strong sense of "Jesus insisting on order and discipline" Understand that the crowd was huge, having them arranged in groups helped the disciples properly distribute the food. From the above scriptures, it is obvious that Jesus told his disciples to facilitate and arrange the order of sitting. Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

639 | where did he come from | Mark 9:38 | azurelaw | 201986
Dear interested-- The Bible did not say who the man was. See below a reposted old post #8537 of Makarios' for further explanation. --- The MacArthur Study Bible states for Mark 9:38, "John answered. The only recorded instance in the synoptic gospels in which he alone speaks. In light of Jesus' rebuke (vv. 35-37), John's conscience troubled him about an earlier incident he had been involved in. It is clear that he unnamed exorcist was not a fraud because he actually was casting out demons. He was apparently a true believer in Jesus; John and the others opposed him because he was not openly and officially allied with Jesus, as they were." Zondervan's NASB Study Bible suggests, "not following us. The man apparently was a believer, but he was not one of the exclusive company of the twelve. Nevertheless he acted in Jesus' name and had done what the disciples, on at least one occasion, had not been able to do (see vv. 14-18,28)." --- Shalom Azure |

640 | Asking, but not receiving. | Mark 11:24 | azurelaw | 201516
Dear Godsstudent, I will be praying for you and I believe all who have read your post will pray for you, too. Please understand that God has His will on you to bring glory to Him. We are only mortal, fallible human who think like a child and reason like a child. (1 Cor 13:11) When we pray, we ask our sovereign God to make known His will not that He acts according to our desire but we submit to His will for His thoughts are not ours nor our ways are higher (Isaiah 55:8-9). David expressed his yearning for being satisfied with God’s communion in contrasting to people’s satisfaction with their children and possession (Psalm 17:14-15). I know of 2 very dear sisters in Christ, one got a son at her mid forties. She loved him so much that she had devoted herself totally onto the boy. In another word, the boy became the focus and centre of her life. One day, the little boy was taken away by God in an accident. From then on, this sister lost her purpose to live. She told me many times that she did not want to live. She did not even want to go home but just wandering on the street from morning till night when her husband returned home. Her mourning went on for about 3 years. Another sister has the same situation as yours. She had been longing for a child after her marriage, but nothing happened. She also had that same jealousy as yours when she faced with pregnant sisters. [Again, God’s way is higher than ours] She was diagnosed with breast cancer at her mid forties. This trial has changed her so much that she became more grateful to what God has given her. She started to focus on God instead of herself. In God’s perfect plan and grace, she responded to His calling to start a bible study group at her workplace in mainland China – a blessing to many. Though in 1 Cor 7:32-35 Paul talked about being single or getting married. I think it also applies to the couples who have children that the fact is we are so much distracted in our devotion to our Lord. You say: “I've never asked or wanted riches, just the ability to pay what I owe.” God does not owe us anything and we also cannot repay Him for what we owe as well. Talk to your pastor about your feeling towards your fellow Christians. Will you consider adopting a child? Ever blessing. Ps 113:9 He makes the barren woman abide in the house As a joyful mother of children. Praise the LORD! Shalom Azure |
