564 | Prayer of Faith | Matt 6:9 | azurelaw | 221035
Dear Gamal, There is no such thing/wordings/example of Prayer of Faith. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ talked about praying properly in Matthew 6. Read the chapter and meditate. I also recommend you a book "The God Who Hears" - by W. Bingham Hunter. I think it is a biblical study of prayer. Here are a few quotes from the book for your interest:- "...teaching and preaching about prayer often distort Scripture. We are told to use the Lord's promises as if they had no context in biblical literature or life, and we are encouraged to claim things the Bible never names. The name of Jesus is invoked over things He wouldn't recognize. And some of our godliest folk are tortured by barbarian banter: 'Maybe someday you'll have enough faith to be healed.'" "...I passionately disagree with the notion that prayer is a way to get from God what we want. Christian prayer, as explained in Scripture, seems something else entirely: Prayer is a means God uses to give us what He wants. The most important word in this definition is God...at root most of our prayer difficulties are theological problems......in the sense that we simply do not focus enough on the 'Theo'......prayer really makes sense only against the background of God's nature and attributes......" "From a biblical point of view, prayer is related to everything that we are and everything that God is. God does not respond to our prayers. God responds to us: to our whole life......Prayer is communication from whole persons to the Wholeness which is the living God." Shalom Azure |

565 | what does matthew 6:10 mean | Matt 6:10 | azurelaw | 235578
Dear braiden, Welcome to the forum and thank you for the question. As you know, it is a part of Jesus' teaching to His disciples on how to pray. We call it "the Lord's Prayer". Let me try to share my thought with you. If you read it again and again, you will get the idea that it is very much God-centred in all aspects (His kingdom, His will, His sovereignty, His protection, His provision). As believer, we have to always bear in mind God's kingdom and will though we live our lives in this physical world which is so much rotten. V10 draws our plea for Jesus's second coming on one hand, and on the other, during this "waiting period" (in the situation that God's kingdom has come but yet to be completed in Jesus's second coming), we set our hope on God to exercise and effectuate His will. As a citizen of God's kingdom, we of course acknowledge His sovereignty, we should be zealous about God's will to be accomplished and be obedient and feel honour to be part of His tool in it for we TRUST, BELIEVE AND KNOW God's Will is for His glory and the good of His People. That is why we are taught to pray like that. (note also V13b) Hope my wordings are not so cumbersome for you to understand :-) By the way, I love this prayer very much. I join a liturgical church where we recite this beautiful prayer every Sunday and I enjoy praying it for it really guides me to focus my thought on God and convicts myself of failing to bear in mind the hallowed name of God in my daily live. Shalom Azure |

568 | how do I get my parents back in church? | Matt 6:33 | azurelaw | 208794
Dear aherbert, Mat 6:33 I empathize with you. You have done the most correct thing - "praying". Constant prayers is powerful and pleasing to our Lord. Do you have a pastor to talk to, or mature christians at church who have good acquaintance with your parents that can help? Shalom Azure |

569 | Expectations of God | Matt 6:33 | azurelaw | 224014
Mat 6:8-13 Dear DeniseG, It is good that you ask for citation of scriptures in reply to your question. However, since you said that you were told in church about expecting God to answer what we want, I would also hope you demand scriptural reference from your teacher/preacher on such idea. I could have misundersood you, but what you have written seems to me that the idea is that believers have the right to demand answers from God or require God to answer/do anything for us whenever and whatever we ask. So, if this is the idea that you have been taught, your teacher/preacher is liable to provide scriptural support on such notion. Concerning prayers, may I suggest you a book which I found biblically sound and easy to read ... "The God Who Hears" - by W. Gingham Hunter Here are some quotes I would like to share with you:- "Prayer really makes sense only against the background of God's nature and attributes." "It is because God is holy, that we are asked to confess; it is because He knows everything, that we must be honest. Because He is sovereign, we must ask according to his will..." "...prayer is related to everything that we are and everything that God is. God does not respond to our prayers. God responds to us: to our whole life. What we say to him cannot be separated from what we think, feel, will and do. Prayer is communication from whole persons to the Wholeness which is the living God." Shalom Azure |

571 | how many will go to heaven | Matt 7:13 | azurelaw | 238111
Dear Mokava, Welcome to the forum. The Bible does say how many will go to heaven (Mat 7:13 indicates that not all will go to heaven and many will perish too), but Jesus already ensured us that we (believers) are His sheep given by God and no one is able to snatch us away from Him (John 10:27-30). May you be blessed in your faith. Shalom Azure |

572 | Is lifestyle change proof of salvation? | Matt 7:21 | azurelaw | 186530
Jesus said: John 10:27-29 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand" v29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. Dear Looking..., I am not sure whether you think the above verses directly answer to your questions, however, I would hope that these verses can shed some lights on your doubts. Ask yourself: Do I know His voice? Do I follow Him? Yes, we do fall away at times in our trials. However, I remember a story told by a pastor long time ago. He said that when the shepherd find a certain sheep too naughty and always goes astray that risk its life to the wild animals, he will use his staff to beat and break the sheep's leg. So that the sheep cannot walk and the shepherd will lovingly carry the sheep in his bossom and care for it dearly until it recovers. The sheep being punished will never do the same foolish thing for it is really painful for the punishment. Shalom Azure |

573 | An audible voice proves one is saved? | Matt 7:21 | azurelaw | 186602
Is 65:1 "I permitted Myself to be sought by those who did not ask for Me; I permitted Myself to be found by those who did not seek Me. I said, 'Here am I, here am I,' To a nation which did not call on My name. Is 65:2 "I have spread out My hands all day long to a rebellious people, Who walk in the way which is not good, following their own thoughts, Jer 29:13 You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me WITH ALL YOUR HEART. Dear Looking, May I suggest that you SINCERELY read what Doc has commended if you are truly seeking the truth for yourself. If you are curious about the issue for a third party while you yourself are not sincere to tackle your own, I would like to propose the below scriptures for you: John 21:21 So Peter seeing him *said to Jesus, "Lord, and what about this man?" John 21:22 Jesus *said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, WHAT IS THAT TO YOU? YOU FOLLOW ME!" May God bless you and enlight you with His Words Shalom Azure |

574 | Question about Matt 8:34 | Matt 8:34 | azurelaw | 227077
Dear Laquita, Welcome to the forum. The answer lies in V33 where you may see that the swine herd was a property of someone lived in Gadarenes (a gentile city). We may surmise that seeing the destruction of his property (the swines) by Jesus, the owner and the people there did not want Him to further cause them troubles. They most likely did not concern who Jesus is but their own properties. I hope this helps. Shalom Azure |

Dear Woman, Welcome to the forum. Hope the below from John Gill's exposition helpful to you: "...... By the "sword" may be meant the Gospel, which is the means of dividing and separating the people of Christ from the men of the world, and from their principles and practices, and one relation from another; as also of divisions, discords, and persecutions arising from it: not that it was the intention and design of Christ, in coming into the world, to foment and encourage such things; but this, through the malice and wickedness of men, was eventually the effect and consequence of his coming; see Luke 12:51 where, instead of a "sword," it is "division"; because the sword divides asunder, as does the sword of the Spirit, the word of God." Dear Mamametal, First of all, I think it would not be appropriate to give any advice or comments to your situation as we cannot know the whole story and there is much limitation to settle case of yours under this kind of communication platform. However, concerning the scripture (about turning the other cheek) you are searching, it would be Matthew 5:39. Please rightly interepret the scripture in its context and historical background. I believe the below link is helpful for your better understanding: http://www.reformedonline.com/view/reformedonline/SermononMount19.htm Shalom Azure |
