701 | potter's field, field of blood same? | Jer 7:32 | azurelaw | 200971
Dear boanerges, Welcome to the forum. Scripture: Jer 7:32, Mat 27:5-8 I believe the below quote from an old post (28005)of brother Kalos is helpful to answer your question. ***** Judas himself, in his despair, went out and hanged himself, (Matthew 27:5) at Aceldama, on the southern slope of the valley of Hinnom, near Jerusalem, and in the act he fell down a precipice and was dashed into pieces. (Acts 1:18) "And he went to his own place." (Acts 1:25 ) "A guilty conscience must find neither hell or pardon." **** Shalom Azure |

703 | Lucifer in heaven the Minister of Music? | Isaiah | azurelaw | 200802
Dear anniej, Welcome to the forum. This question has been asked many times on the forum. You may do a word search by "lucifer" at your right hand corner of the screen for more information. For your easy reference, I believe the below quote from an old post (#24006) of a forum participant "Makarios" helpful to your question. Shalom Azure ***** Greetings shy! Isaiah 14:12-15 is thought to be describing the fall of Satan (as well as Ezekiel 28:12-19), and Isaiah 14:11 states, "Your pomp and the music of your harps have been brought down to Sheol; maggots are spread out as your bed beneath you and worms are your covering." I believe that Isaiah 14:11 is the "source" for the belief that Satan was in charge of worship and music. However, that 'position' of Satan is not explicitly stated as such in Scripture, even though Ezekiel 28:12-19 describes Satan as the 'guardian cherub' to the Throne of God. Blessings to you, Nolan |

706 | What about the call to lead? | Acts 1:8 | azurelaw | 200553
Dear LSPS, Welcome to the forum. I tend to say it is Jesus' command to every believer instead of a calling. Whether you feel it or not, it is a must do mission. See Acts 1:8 and Matthew 28:19. Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

707 | Rejoicing in The Lord | Phil 4:4 | azurelaw | 200144
Dear NightJay, Scriptures: Eccl 3:4, 10-11 Rom 12:15 2 Cor 6:10, 7:10 It does not literally mean to rejoice in every single second continuously 24 hours a day. I hope the below commentaries are helpful for your understanding of the scripture. ----- John Gill Phil 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always,.... This is a repetition of the exhortation in the preceding chapter; See Gill on "Php 3:1"; with this addition "alway"; for there is always cause and matter for rejoicing in Christ, even in times of affliction, distress, and persecution; since he is always the same; his grace is always sufficient; his blood has a continual virtue in it, and always speaks for peace and pardon; his righteousness is an everlasting one, and so is his salvation, and such is his love; though some join this word with what follows, [and] again, I say, rejoice; this is what was continually inculcated by him, as being of great importance and use for the comfort of believers, and the honour of Christ. Phil 3:1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord,.... The Syriac version reads, "in our Lord," i.e. Christ. …, he exhorts them in a most affectionate manner, as his dear brethren in a spiritual relation, that they would make Christ their chief joy; that whatever sorrow they might have on account of his bonds, … he observes they had reason to rejoice in their Lord and Saviour; …, yet Christ should be the principal object of their joy. A believer has always reason to rejoice in Christ; in the greatness of his person, he being in the form of God, and equal to him, and therefore able to save his to the uttermost by his obedience and death, and has interest enough in heaven to make his intercession prevalent and successful and power to keep safe all that are committed to him; and in the fitness of his person to be a Mediator, and daysman, to take care of things pertaining to the glory of God, and to make reconciliation for sin; and in the fullness of his person, he having all grace in him for his people, which is all theirs, and with joy may they draw water out of the full wells of salvation in him; and in the beauty of his person which surpasses all others, a sight of which fills with joy unspeakable, and full of glory. They may, and should rejoice, as they sometimes do, in his salvation; in the contrivance of it by infinite wisdom; in the impetration of it by himself; and in the application of it by his spirit; and that because hereby justice is satisfied, the law is magnified and made honourable, sin is finished, and an everlasting righteousness brought in. Also they are called upon to rejoice in his resurrection, which is for their justification; in his ascension, seeing he then received gifts for men; and in his session at the right hand of God, which is in their nature; and in his intercession which is to their advantage; and in all the relations he stands in to them, as head, husband, father, brother, friend; and in everything that is his, and that belongs unto him, as his Gospel, ordinances, ways, and worship... --------- Darby Phil 4:4 … "Rejoice in the Lord." If he even weeps over many who call themselves Christians, he rejoices always in the Lord; in Him is that which nothing can alter. This is not an indifference to sorrow which hinders weeping, but it is a spring of joy which enlarges when there is distress, because of its immutability, and which becomes even more pure in the heart the more it becomes the only one; and it is in itself the only spring that is infinitely pure. When it is our only spring, we thereby love others. If we love them besides Him, we lose something of Him. When through exercise of heart we are weaned from all other springs, His joy remains in all its purity, and our concern for others partakes of this same purity. Nothing moreover troubles this joy, because Christ never changes. The better we know Him, the better are we able to enjoy that which is ever enlarging through knowing Him. But he exhorts Christians to rejoice: it is a testimony to the worth of Christ, it is their true portion. Four years in prison chained to a soldier had not hindered his doing it, nor being able to exhort others more at ease than he. Shalom Azure |

708 | Okay to question faith and the Bible? | 2 Tim 3:16 | azurelaw | 200114
Dear pmcdonough, Scriptures: 2 Tim 3:16-17 (Bible is the inerrant Word of God) Rom 10:9-21 John 20:24-29 (Jesus commented those who did not see and yet believed) Mat 4:19-20, 21-22 (see how the disciples re-act with a simple faith) Luke 18:15-17 Hebrew 11:6, 4:2 Rom 9:14-20 If your friend SINCERELY wants to learn more about God's Word, nothing wrong about asking questions. However, please understand that it is solely God's will to open the unbeliever's eyes for understanding and God's decision to give him faith to believe the gospel. Unbelievers are spiritually dead...so how could a dead man re-act or decide to believe if it were not of God's grace and mercy to grant him the faith. Pray that your friend be enlightened by the true Light (John 1:9) in that he may know Jesus as his saviour and believe. Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

709 | How do I obtain what I'm asking for? | 2 Tim 2:15 | azurelaw | 199969
Dear David, Your question verse: Matt 21:22 "And all things you ask in PRAYER, believing, you will receive." I will first search what Jesus taught about prayer (Mat 6:8-13, Mat 6:33). Praying...is to communicate with God and ask Him to let known His will to me for He knows what we need before we ask but we hardly know His without praying and reading His Word. So, through prayer, we are submissive to His will and pray for His will be done and have faith and believe that will be done. Just my 2 cents. Shalom Azure |

715 | As a believer can I commit suicide. | Matt 18:12 | azurelaw | 199344
Dear dtruth, My heart breaks whenever I see this kind of question appears on the forum. Having been participating on this God blessed forum for more than 18 months, I have seen a number of participants asking the same question as yours. Frankly, the answer should not be just a "yes" or "no" and I believe that no one really needs nor expects such an answer. What you really need is prayers and a face to face interaction of counselling (a means that is beyond the forum's capacity) with your pastor or trustworthy and faithful christians. That's why we usually provide such recommendation. However, when I think of that both the kind of support might not be available to the questioner, this could be the cause for their coming to the forum for help. So, my answer to your question is : NO believers "may" commit suicide. (1 Cor 10:31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, DO ALL TO THE GLORY OF GOD.) Ask yourself, if committing suicide glorifies God? pleases God? In my society where I live, suicidal behaviour is unlawful as well. We are taught to be in subjection to the governing authorities (Rom 13:1). We also see examples of godly men in the Bible that even they were in the extreme difficult situation and facing severe persecution, they did not commit suicide. To name a few: Elijah (1 King 19:3-10) Job (2:9-10) David (read Psalm) Jeremiah (20:14-18) Jonah (Jonah 4:3) Peter (Matthew 26:75) in contrast to Judah Paul (2 Cor 11:23-30, 12:8-10) I urge you to read Paul's epistles, they are very comforting and encouraging. 2 Cor 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 2 Cor 1:4 who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Cor 1:5 For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. As some other posters responded to you that you are not alone...keep you in my prayers. Shalom Azure |

717 | Should he biblicy or morally divorce me? | Matt 19:9 | azurelaw | 199221
Dear broken, Your user name can tell us that you have a broken heart. The scripture to offer is Mat 19:9. Please note that God hates divorce. In Moses time, divorce allowed for the Jews was due to their hardness of heart (Mat 19:8). If you and your husband still love each other, you should stay married. However, I am afraid your problem might not be dealt with properly on a study bible forum. I strongly urge you (both you and your husband) seek counselling from your pastor or some trustworthy and mature christians. If you still want to search something in concern with your topic, you may access to the below past posts and read those discussions along the threads. 219 451 4076 You just need to type the number on the search box at your upper right hand corner of the screen. My final note : Kneel before the Throne of God and devote yourselves together in prayers. Let God work in both your hearts. Shalom Azure |

719 | land vomits out inhabitants? | Lev 18:25 | azurelaw | 199187
Hi Sharolyn, In addition to my previous post, I would like to you go backward to the beginning of Chapter 18 and re-read the whole chapter. In v3, God earnestly warns the Israelites not to follow the wicked deeds (as laid out in the succeeding verses) of Egyptians' and the Canaanites' (their land is going to be taken over by the Israelite). The Canaanites have defiled the land. The land vomits out its inhabitants (the Canaanites) should be understood as God's punishment toward the Canaanites (being cast out, destroyed or exterminated) by Israelite taking over the place as their promise land. Such punishment also applies to Israelite should they follow the evil deeds of the gentiles. Shalom Azure |

720 | land vomits out inhabitants? | Lev 18:25 | azurelaw | 199186
Dear Sharolyn, Welcome to the forum. "the land vomits..." should not be treated in its literal sense but rather an analogy as per John Gill's explanation: "Verse 25. And the land is defiled,.... The inhabitants of it, with the immoralities and idolatries before mentioned: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it; or punish the inhabitants that are on it for their sins: and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants; as a stomach loaded with corrupt and bad food it has taken in, nauseates it, and cannot bear and retain it, but casts it up, and never receives it again; so the land of Canaan is represented as loathing its inhabitants, and as having an aversion to them, and indignation against them, and as not being able to bear them, but entirely willing to be rid of them and throw them out of their places in it, never to be admitted more, being as nauseous and as useless as the cast of a man's stomach; see Revelation 3:16." Hope it helps. Shalom Azure |
