661 | Where were Jesus' disciples from? | Rom 5:12 | azurelaw | 201922
Hi again, There is very little information about Judas Iscariot given in the bible. He is just like any ordinary man (you or me) that who may betray our Lord for his/her own greed. Pray that we be always faithful to our Master. Shalom Azure |

662 | Where were Jesus' disciples from? | Rom 5:12 | azurelaw | 201921
Dear byoung, Welcome to the forum. Perhaps other more knowledgable will answer your question to the point. However, I think it would be more appropriate and benefitial to us that we focus on Jesus and what He has done for us instead of Judas Iscariot. By the way, it is not Judas' betrayal on Jesus that led Him to the cross, but our sin. Rom 5:6-21 Shalom Azure |

663 | Cloud and Smoke | Is 6:4 | azurelaw | 201905
Dear Cheri, I've checked that there are a few different saying, however I would prefer John Gill's over the others in concern with the context of the succeeding verses especially v9-10. "And the house was filled with smoke; this was a token either of the burning of the temple, or of the anger of God against the Jews, Psalm 18:8 or of their superstition and will worship, the cause of it, Revelation 9:1 or of the judicial blindness and darkness they were given up unto, Isaiah 6:9 or rather of the presence of God in his church, and with his ministers, Exodus 40:3 the allusion may be to the cloud of incense that covered the mercy seat, on the day of atonement,..." - John Gill Hope the above helpful. 664 | why was the women and children put in de | Dan 6:24 | azurelaw | 201901
Dear jan31, Most probably this was done according to the law of the ancient Persian: "Among the Persians, all the kindred were involved in the guilt of one culprit. The Mosaic law expressly forbade this (De 24:16; 2Ki 14:6)." - Jamieson, Faussett and Brown Such kind of merciless punishment was pretty much the same as the ancient China Emperors and the degree of severity varied according to the level of law offended. When it came to denounce about a person cheating or unfaithful to the King, not only their wives and children, but also all the direct or indirect kinship or relatives were put to death as well in ancient China. 665 | Acts 10 :15 impure/Clean | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 201896
Dear sonjastewart, Hope the below is helpful to your study. "Testament is another word for covenant. The OT represents an old covenant, which is one we are no longer obligated to keep. Therefore we can hardly begin by assuming that the Old Covenant should automatically be binding upon us...unless they are renewed in the New Covenant. That is unless an OT law is somehow restated or reinforced in the NT, it is no longer directly binding on God's people (cf. Rom 6:14-15)." - Fee and Stuart "How to read the Bible for all Its worth" Shalom Azure |

668 | Was this really Samuel's spirit? | 1 Sam 28:11 | azurelaw | 201839
Dear budderfligh, Matthew Henry's commentary: ...God permitted the devil, to answer the design, to put on Samuel's shape, that those who would not receive the love of the truth might be given up to strong delusions and believe a lie. That it could not be the soul of Samuel himself they might easily apprehend when it ascended out of the earth, for the spirit of a man, much more of a good man, goes upward, Eccl. 3:21. But, if people will be deceived, it is just with God to say, "Let them be deceived." ... 669 | Why bring a sick to Jesus? | Mark 1:30 | azurelaw | 201753
Dear WIP, Welcome to the forum. Jesus' prior healing or miracles were also recorded in Mathew 4:23-25. After His discourse on the beatitudes through Ch 5-7, He healed a leper and a centurion's servant in Ch 8 before healing Peter's mother-in-law. See also Luke 4:16-24 applied the text of Isaiah (v 18) to himself as Matthew Henry put it: [Here is Christ's application of this text to himself (v. 21): When he had read it, he rolled up the book, and gave it again to the minister, or clerk, that attended, and sat down, according to the custom of the Jewish teachers; he sat daily in the temple, teaching, Mt. 26:55. Now he began his discourse thus, "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. This, which Isaiah wrote by way of prophecy, I have now read to you by way of history." It now began to be fulfilled in Christ's entrance upon his public ministry; now, IN THE REPORT THEY HEARD OF HIS PREACHING AND MIRACLES IN OTHER PLACES; NOW, IN HIS PREACHING TO THEM IN THEIR OWN SYNAGOGUE.] Hope the above helpful. 671 | Impact on our witness? | Matt 15:18 | azurelaw | 201703
Dear WOS, Thanks for the good question. Matt 3:3 For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said, "THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD, MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT!'" Although the above scripture was meant for John the Baptist, I think it still applies to us being Jesus' witness as He has commanded in Acts 1:8. Else, we are just the STUMBLING STONES for others along the road. Just my 2 cents. Shalom Azure |

672 | Noah's Curse | Gen 9:25 | azurelaw | 201672
Dear loyal, Welcome to the forum. I hope the below commentary helpful to you. Shalom *** ...There is a clear correspondence between the activities of Ham, Shem, and Japheth and the curses and blessings which follow them. Shem and Japheth honored God when they acted together to preserve the honor of their father. Ham dishonored both his father and his God by relishing the humiliation of Noah. So Ham was cursed and Shem and Japheth were blessed in cooperative unity. The problem which must arise from the cursing of Canaan is this: Why did God curse Canaan for the sin of Ham? Beyond this, why did God curse the Canaanites, a nation, for the sin of one man? The explanation which best seems to answer these questions is that the words of Noah convey not only a cursing, and a blessing, but a prophecy. While it is true that the sins of the fathers are visited on the sons, this is only “to the third and fourth generations” (Exodus 20:5). If this principle were to be applied, all the sons of Ham should have been cursed. By prophetic revelation, Noah foresaw that the moral flaws evidenced by Ham would be most fully manifested in Canaan and in his offspring. Knowing this, the curse of God falls upon the Canaanites because of the sinfulness Noah foresaw.104 The emphasis thus falls upon the fact that the Canaanites would be cursed because of their sin, not due to Ham’s. I think this explains why Canaan is cursed and not Ham, or the rest of his sons.... - Bob Deffinbaugh (http://www.bible.org) |

Dear qamargaret, Welcome to the forum. I am not aware of the relevant scriptures of that statement. However, what you have cited should be a part of the "Peace Prayer" by St Francis of Assisi - see below. This prayer had been made into an anthem sung within the Christian circles, too. Shalom Azure ***** Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love, Where there is injury let me sow pardon, Where there is doubt let me sow faith, Where there is despair let me give hope, Where there is darkness let me give light, Where there is sadness let me give joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not try to be comforted but to comfort, Not try to be understood but to understand, Not try to be loved but to love. Because it is in giving that we receive, It is in forgiving that we are forgiven, And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. - St Francis |

Dear pdhcars, Scriptures: 1 Cor 6:18 Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. 1 Cor 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 1 Cor 6:20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore GLORIFY GOD IN YOUR BODY. 1 Cor 7:8 But I say to the unmarried and to widows that it is good for them if they remain even as I. 1 Cor 7:9 But if they do not have self-control, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion. 678 | God wanted to give Adam a helpmate | Gen 2:18 | azurelaw | 201544
Dear queendee, Scripture : Gen 1:26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." Furthermore, I found Metthew Henry's commentary helpful in answering your question. *** … Every beast of the field and every fowl of the air God brought to Adam, … that he might name them, and so might give, 1. A proof of his knowledge, as a creature endued with the faculties both of reason and speech, and so taught more than the beasts of the earth and made wiser than the fowls of the heaven, Job 35:11. And, 2. A proof of his power. It is an act of authority to impose names (Dan. 1:7), and of subjection to receive them…. But he [God] gave Adam leave to name the beasts and fowls, as their subordinate lord; for, having made him in his own image, he thus put some of his honour upon him. An instance of the creatures' insufficiency to be a happiness for man: But (among them all) for Adam there was not found a help meet for him. Some make these to be the words of Adam himself; observing all the creatures come to him by couples to be named, he thus intimates his desire to his Maker:—"Lord, these have all helps meet for them; but what shall I do? Here is never a one for me." It is rather God's judgment upon the review. He brought them all together, to see if there were ever a suitable match for Adam in any of the numerous families of the inferior creatures; but there was none. Observe here, 1. The dignity and excellency of the human nature. On earth there was not its like, nor its peer to be found among all visible creatures; they were all looked over, but it could not be matched among them all. 2. The vanity of this world and the things of it; put them all together, and they will not make a help-meet for man. They will not suit the nature of his soul, nor supply its needs, nor satisfy its just desires, nor run parallel with its never-failing duration. God creates a new thing to be a help-meet for man—not so much the woman as the seed of the woman. Metthew Henry *** Shalom Azure |

679 | Asking, but not receiving. | Mark 11:24 | azurelaw | 201516
Dear Godsstudent, I will be praying for you and I believe all who have read your post will pray for you, too. Please understand that God has His will on you to bring glory to Him. We are only mortal, fallible human who think like a child and reason like a child. (1 Cor 13:11) When we pray, we ask our sovereign God to make known His will not that He acts according to our desire but we submit to His will for His thoughts are not ours nor our ways are higher (Isaiah 55:8-9). David expressed his yearning for being satisfied with God’s communion in contrasting to people’s satisfaction with their children and possession (Psalm 17:14-15). I know of 2 very dear sisters in Christ, one got a son at her mid forties. She loved him so much that she had devoted herself totally onto the boy. In another word, the boy became the focus and centre of her life. One day, the little boy was taken away by God in an accident. From then on, this sister lost her purpose to live. She told me many times that she did not want to live. She did not even want to go home but just wandering on the street from morning till night when her husband returned home. Her mourning went on for about 3 years. Another sister has the same situation as yours. She had been longing for a child after her marriage, but nothing happened. She also had that same jealousy as yours when she faced with pregnant sisters. [Again, God’s way is higher than ours] She was diagnosed with breast cancer at her mid forties. This trial has changed her so much that she became more grateful to what God has given her. She started to focus on God instead of herself. In God’s perfect plan and grace, she responded to His calling to start a bible study group at her workplace in mainland China – a blessing to many. Though in 1 Cor 7:32-35 Paul talked about being single or getting married. I think it also applies to the couples who have children that the fact is we are so much distracted in our devotion to our Lord. You say: “I've never asked or wanted riches, just the ability to pay what I owe.” God does not owe us anything and we also cannot repay Him for what we owe as well. Talk to your pastor about your feeling towards your fellow Christians. Will you consider adopting a child? Ever blessing. Ps 113:9 He makes the barren woman abide in the house As a joyful mother of children. Praise the LORD! Shalom Azure |

680 | What versus talk about praying silently | Matt 6:5 | azurelaw | 201467
Dear Klindad, Welcome to the forum. You probably are looking for Matthew 6:5-15 where Jesus rebuked the Pharisees by comparing a truly repenting sinner's prayer with the hypocritical praying of the Pharisees'. Go further to v33, this verse is in echo with verse 10. However, within the context from v24 to 34, the focus was more on our faith and concern on the Kingdom of God instead of worldly needs (Col 3:1-2). James Chapter 1 as recommended by Sister Val some time earlier on the forum is helpful for our study about praying. You may also do a word search on both the "search box" and "get bible text box" at your right hand corner of the screen by typing "pray" for further study. Hope you enjoy the forum. Shalom Azure |
