646 | Anything asked will be given | 1 John 5:14 | azurelaw | 202331
Dear Ian, Welcome to the forum. "Many people view an “answered prayer” as God granting a prayer request that is offered to Him. If a prayer request is not granted, it is often understood as an unanswered prayer. However, this an incorrect understanding of prayer. God answers every prayer that is lifted to Him. What we have to remember is that sometimes God answers "no" or "wait." God only promises to grant our prayers when we ask according to His will. 1 John 5:14-15 tells us, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of Him.” What does it mean to pray according to God’s will? Praying according to God’s will is praying for things that honor and glorify God and/or praying for things the Bible clearly reveals it is God’s will for us to have. If we pray for something that is not honoring to God or not God’s will for our lives, God will not give what we ask for. How can we know what God’s will is? God promises to give us wisdom when we ask for it. James 1:5 proclaims, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” Familiarize yourself with what the Bible says about God’s will for your life. The better we understand God’s Word, the better we will know what to pray for. The better we know what to pray for, the more effective our prayer lives will be." - David Jeremiah To read more questions on prayer, you may go to : http://www.gotquestions.org Shalom Azure |

649 | why did John sent his disciples? | Matt 11:2 | azurelaw | 202235
Dear bogs, I believe John was not asking for clarifying his own doubt as John should have known who Jesus was (Mat 3:14-17). The purpose should most probably be for his disciples' sake in convincing them as John Gill has put it: "he sent two of his disciples, who might be the most prejudiced against Christ, because of the increase of his followers, and the decrease of their master's; and because he did not live such an austere life as John did; and who, notwithstanding all that they had heard, and their master had told them of Jesus, were not easily persuaded that he was the true Messiah. Moreover, two of them were sent, both because it was more honourable to Christ, and that they might be proper witnesses of what they saw and heard; and since it was not so much for himself, as for the sake of his disciples, that these messengers were sent." Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

657 | where did he come from | Mark 9:38 | azurelaw | 201986
Dear interested-- The Bible did not say who the man was. See below a reposted old post #8537 of Makarios' for further explanation. --- The MacArthur Study Bible states for Mark 9:38, "John answered. The only recorded instance in the synoptic gospels in which he alone speaks. In light of Jesus' rebuke (vv. 35-37), John's conscience troubled him about an earlier incident he had been involved in. It is clear that he unnamed exorcist was not a fraud because he actually was casting out demons. He was apparently a true believer in Jesus; John and the others opposed him because he was not openly and officially allied with Jesus, as they were." Zondervan's NASB Study Bible suggests, "not following us. The man apparently was a believer, but he was not one of the exclusive company of the twelve. Nevertheless he acted in Jesus' name and had done what the disciples, on at least one occasion, had not been able to do (see vv. 14-18,28)." --- Shalom Azure |

659 | dove's dung or vegetable | 2 Kin 6:25 | azurelaw | 201943
Dear john, As recorded in the AMP version, it should be a kind of wild vegetable. My below search has provided some more information I hope would be helpful to you. "Dung - This Hebrew word is of a doubtful signification, and no where else used, probably it means a sort of pease, which in the Arabick language (near a - kin to the Hebrew) is called doves dung: for this was a food much in use amongst the poorer Israelites, and was a very coarse food, and therefore fit to be joined with the asses head: and a kab was the usual measure of all sorts of grains and fruits of that sort." - Wesley "dove's dung This probably denotes, as Bochart, Scheuchzer, and others suppose, a kind of pulse, or vetches, which the Arabs still call pigeon's dung. 'They never,' says Dr. Sahw, 'constitute a dish by themselves, but are strewed singly as a garnish over cuscasowe, pillowe, and other dishes. They are besides in the greatest repute after they are parched in pans and ovens; then assuming the name leb-lebby;' and he thinks they were so called from being pointed at one end, and acquiring an ash colour in parching."
