301 | men and women as friends | John 13:35 | Val | 219546
It is not a good idea to become emotionally involved with a person of the opposite sex other than your spouse. This type of intimacy is supposed to be reserved for the spouse. In the marriage vows one takes the vow before God to forsake all others and cleave to your spouse. Since this marriage covenant is made between two people and God ordained marriage, breaking this covenant is serious. 1 Corinthians 6:12
302 | The Holy Spirit | John 14:12 | Val | 195316
A study of the book of John will answer your question. Focusing on the fourteenth chapter of John, list exactly what Jesus said we would do if we love Him. We learn much more and it means more to us if we study the word for ourselves and examine it to see if what others say about it is true. The evidence that Jesus is God is that He raised the dead and healed those that were sick. We are to love the Lord and obey His commandments as He repeats this in the fourteenth chapter several times. We cannot come to conclusions because of what others say - we must study the bible for ourselves. May I suggest you find a good in depth study of John - May God bless you as you grow in the grace and knowledge of Him. John 17:3 "This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. |

303 | Slipped Faith.. | John 15:5 | Val | 198309
Cry out to the Lord in prayer. Tell Him about your doubts, fears and relationships. Be willing to follow Him and obey Him. Express this to Him. It is vital that you make time everyday to pray and study His word even if you have to say no to some of your other responsibilites and friendships. Your relationship with Him is the most important and when you have a good one with Him, your other ones will work out. When you read His promises in the bible, believe them and thank Him. Find people your own age who love the Lord. If you hang with the crowd that does not love Him, you will be influenced by them. Do a character study on Christ Jesus, David and Paul in the bible. May God bless you, Grace and Peace, Val 1 Sam 17:12 Now David was the son of the Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, whose name was Jesse, and he had eight sons. And Jesse was old in the days of Saul, advanced in years among men. 1 Sam 17:13 The three older sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle. And the names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and the second to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah. 1 Sam 17:14 David was the youngest. Now the three oldest followed Saul, 1 Sam 17:15 but David went back and forth from Saul to tend his father's flock at Bethlehem. |

304 | No Fruit? | John 15:8 | Val | 205417
Steve, Reading Chapters 14, 15 and 16 the context is before Christ's dead. Verse 25 says "These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but will tell you plainly of the Father." Christ's talks about believing in Him and about keeping His commandments in these chapters. So my question is, is the fruit He is talking about would that be believers who believe as a result of their going and telling the message of Christ's death, burial and resurrection? Respectfully submitted, Val |

306 | The Lord's prayer shows immaturity? | John 17:1 | Val | 215965
Dear Humility, I ran into the same situation you did. We discussed it in Post 206087 if you care to read it. Sincerely, Val
307 | Why did Jesus fold His Napkin/Facecloth? | John 20:7 | Val | 214149
Dear Pattycake, Since the scripture does not provide an explanation we can just say what it says and that is that it was rolled up in a place by itself. Sincerely, Val
308 | Retain or forgive sins? | John 20:22 | Val | 204526
It just means that after the gospel is preached by them - the apostles; the choice is up to the person. If they do not believe they will die in their sins. If they believe and unite that hearing the word with faith they are forgiven and receive eternal life. I don't know anything about Catholics. Usually people who do not believe in the Lord do not ask for forgiveness so that would be a non issue. Just my thoughts, Blessings Val
309 | how can we receive holy spirit | Acts | Val | 195182
Acts 10:33 "So I sent for you immediately, and you have been kind enough to come. Now then, we are all here present before God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord." Acts 10:34 Opening his mouth, Peter said: "I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality, Acts 10:35 but in every nation the man who fears Him and does what is right is welcome to Him. Acts 10:36 "The word which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all)-- Acts 10:37 you yourselves know the thing which took place throughout all Judea, starting from Galilee, after the baptism which John proclaimed. Acts 10:38 "You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. Acts 10:39 "We are witnesses of all the things He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They also put Him to death by hanging Him on a cross. Acts 10:40 "God raised Him up on the third day and granted that He become visible, Acts 10:41 not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen beforehand by God, that is, to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. Acts 10:42 "And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead. Acts 10:43 "Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins." Acts 10:44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. Acts 10:45 All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. Acts 10:46 For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God. Then Peter answered, Acts 10:47 "Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?" Acts 10:48 And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few days. Hope this helps. Not all people speak in tongues as they did here but as you see in verse 43 and 44 we must believe in who Jesus is and what he did for us and upon that belief in Him He seals us with the Holy Spirit. Prayer and bible study and worshipping Him in a bible believing church are the basics by which we grow in the grace and knowledge of our dear Lord. |

310 | Does the Holy Spirit continue to operate | Acts | Val | 197883
I would say it does but in a different way. The twelve apostles were in the early church. They had special gifts that were not continued such as being able to raise the dead and heal the sick.
311 | What is Acts 2:20 talking about? | Acts 2:16 | Val | 203211
Acts 2:16 but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel: Acts 2:17 'AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' The last days began with Christ Jesus the Messiah. There is no historical account of the sun turned into darkness, and the moon into blood. Therefore this is a prophecy that has not been fulfilled yet. |

312 | dreams, still God's way of speaking? | Acts 2:17 | Val | 199140
Nandi, we take those dreams that we have and line them up with scriptures. In other words, whatever impression you got from the dream, search the scriptures and see what instructions you get there. All our experiences are to be taken to the word of God for clarity and understanding. A good book on how to study the bible will help you. Pray first and spend time alone with God to prepare you for studying His word. Whatever the topic of your dream - say it was about someone getting married, look in the back of your bible and you will see a concordance with the words marriage, married, marry. Look up these scriptures in your bible reading the chapter they are found in and the book they are found in to find out what the author's overall purpose of writing the book is. He usually states why he is writing. There is an excellent bible on this site called the inductive study bible that shows you how to study the bible within its pages. I have it and have been blessed by it. You can go to the top of this page under Find a bible to locate it. Blessings, Val
313 | WutHappens2PeopleThatDon'tKnowAboutGod? | Acts 4:12 | Val | 191014
The bible teaches that God is the creator of all peoples and that it is His desire that all come to faith in Him. It also teaches that the gospel is for all nations. If someone is seeking to know Him, He will make a way for that person to know the gospel; that God sent His only Son to die on a cross for our sins and whoever puts their faith and trust in Him will be saved. The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the gospel of good news and it is for all peoples even in third world countries. The bible says that nothing is too difficult for God. We see in the bible that He is a kind and loving Creator and that we see the wonder of Him in His creation so that all men may know Him. All people everywhere can see the moon and the stars - all the things that He created. The bible says that He put within all of us the knowledge of Him. It also says that when people seek Him - they will find Him if they search for Him with all their heart. It teaches that God will make a way where there seems to be no way. God loves you so much. I pray that you chose God the creator of heaven and earth and Jesus Christ His Son. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him may have everlasting life." NASB
314 | How can I get back the fire...? | Acts 8:39 | Val | 198955
Take time off for prayer and fasting. Keep a journal and write down all your thoughts. Continue to pray and read the bible and seek the Lord. Ask Him to show you any sins in your life and bring them to Him in repentance. Take time daily preferably in the morning to spend with Him and commit your day to Him. May God bless you. Val 1 Kin 8:28 "Yet have regard to the prayer of Your servant and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which Your servant prays before You today; |

315 | Bearing His Name: Jehovah? | Acts 15:14 | Val | 213679
Dear Raffa; I think you are not seeing the big picture. Look at the book of Acts, what is it about? Is it not the beginning of the church? Who did God start the church with? Was it not His Son Jesus? Calling oneself by a name does not make that person right with God does it? What makes a person right with God in your thinking? Sincerely, Val
316 | reason for paul's circumcising Timothy | Acts 16:3 | Val | 196787
Gentiles were offensive to some of the jewish people. Paul didn't want Timothy to experience trouble because he was not circumcised. It was a way to keep peace.
317 | Is demonic possession relevant today? | Acts 19:13 | Val | 193661
It is more common in places where there are few christians and the people worship satan. I have heard missionaries talk about this who grew up in places such as these. We should however keep our focus on the Lord Jesus Christ and rely upon Him and stay close to Him through prayer and bible study.
318 | Would his heart not be humbled? | Romans | Val | 192070
James 3:1 "Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment." NASB
319 | Would his heart not be humbled? | Romans | Val | 192117
Is he concerned with his own glory? Only God knows the heart. Does he do so in a condescending way? Only his students would know. Does he do so as if he is the authority on scripture? We have heard that much knowledge puffs up so it is possible to fall into that trap. Does he approach it as if he is the only one who knows anything at all about God's word? A good teacher needs to be a good listener. What affect does pride have on his effectiveness to teach? Pride gives man glory not the Lord. It seems it would have an effect. Would his heart not be humbeled at what God has called him to do and be obedient, humbled and gracious in that calling? A worthy goal. |

320 | Are faith and works an integral unit? | Romans | Val | 194474
I guess it depends on the biblical person. In looking at the good kings you will see that they made reforms that followed the Lord's commandments. In this sense you see their faith is being worked out by their actions. I believe only the Lord can see the motivations of ones heart as to why they do what they do. I believe that those who wanted to please Jehovah did view faith and action as a unit in the sense of obedience to those things commanded. This is a different way of looking at works. We certainly are saved by faith alone but as James says a genuine faith will produce good deeds.
